2017 Worlds on-site reports

Canadians finishing their practice. VirtueMoir on point, Poje had twizzle troubles in their sp runthrough, Piper and Paul have changed their sp lift from the last time I saw them. Tessa wearing now all black Prince costume.

What, no more purple? Maybe she wants to match Scott, who is wearing all black. I guess it's up to Yuzu to carry on the purple tribute to Prince!

Did Medvedeva's FS music change? I was expecting some different bits in there or something, maybe the voice-over was removed?

Oh please, make it so. I love the music to bits, but the voice overs...... :disapp:

It's probably her practice outfit. The competition costume was a modified version of a type of practice jumpsuit she's been wearing for years.

Agreed. Many don't bother to update, and Team Mishin hardly ever seems to care to - for example, they did not update Sasha Petrov's layout going into junior Worlds', including the SP which had a required 3L. (And they're not the only ones - this caused some consternation among fans wondering if some of the skaters were going for quads in the SP at junior Worlds'.) I think fans put far too much faith - and importance - on announced jump layout.

I never saw the point of the planned program sheets. They have (or should have) absolutely no bearing on the competition.

The points rest with what is delivered, not what is planned.

I suppose, in a generous moment, I could conceded that they might generate excitement among the fans, but only marginally even then.

Just watched Ashley's instagram picture and her spread eagle is as outside as outside can be :luv17:.

Anyone remember which practices will be streamed on their official channel? It's not all of them, is it? Any in the practice rink?

Edit: Nevermind, found them. Shown here and you can set reminders!

I never bother with them myself. We'll see what we will see, come the day.:)

To be honest, they sort of helped me at 4CC since I still have issues identifying some jumps. Then again, whenever someone deviated, it just confused me.

US teams looking solid in pratice.
I think Shibs are the 1st team today who skipped twizzles in their run through but did all the stsqs.

Practice notes: Wakaba Higuchi working 3A in practice - legit! 3A(<<,2ft), 3A(ur?fall), 3A(fall) it's pretty legit. Not ready for prime time yet. But technique is strong.

I don't know what to say about Rika :hopelessness:

Today I was there for the 2nd group in Men. Patrick, Denis and Kevin. Not much jumping from the first two in the RTs, but, boy, did Kevin look almost like a beginner after having watched Patrick and Denis back to back  Then Javi's first practice, so I have really very little to say of anyone else: had eyes only for the Spaniard :luv17: He was ok, relaxed and happy, not too perfect in his skating and jumps, but ok for a first practice. After that I have only sketchy impressions of the next two groups because I was chatting away with a fellow GS member evergreen... We did pause to watch Hanyu and Uno, though. Hanyu's FS RT was good at the start, but went bad towards the end. Uno FS looked as exactly as empty and two footed as I remembered from Marseille. Boyang did not look as scratchy as usual which is good.

Ladies were mostly there - well, they start tomorrow. I was again impressed by Ashley Wagner - she looks feisty and powerful and just so cool. Daleman's speed and jumps match men's easily - so cool to watch! I had not seen Bell or Chen before, but they left me a bit cold, nothing very glorious in either of them. Osmond I like still a lot. Of the Japanese girls, Mihara is clearly the one to watch (at least based on practice). Rika looked somewat awkward and no one should really use O Fortuna for music... Missing Satoko. Medvedeva was rubbing her technical bravado in the faces of of the other girls... Good RT! Sotskova feels a little charactlerless, but Anna was kind of OK. Kostner looked good and calm.

Skipped the pairs and dance again for work and other meetings. But for me it is enough to see maybe the last two groups in the last practices before the competition... I woke up at 5.45 today, but tomorrow I think I can have a proper, peaceful breakfast before hitting the rink! The local elections are on soon in Finland and for whatever reason, I'm listening to an election debate on TV as I type this. Am very happy that my root canal is not hurting very much (it's a bit tender when I chew, but nothing worse than that) - I expected major needs for pain killers. Pr maybe it's just all the endorphins released by watching figure skating live and meeting my figure skating family?!

Both italian teams looked really energetic and determined, esp Luca was ON. BobSol looking good too, StepBukin was no show.
