though Canada day is moving day in Montreal, i have been blessed with the same balcony for 4 years... and not moving tomorrow when Montreal becomes the hottest place on the planet.. yes... you have heard right..

this winter, Montreal was colder than the poles... and now, it's going to be hotter than india. sahara, you name it......

i will be having some cold beverages, alternating with alky and water to make sure i don't die...

and my heart will be grooving... go julianne and charlie

go meagan..

and a special go to Daisuke Takahashi for his return to competition.. i always love it when legends come back to the sport.

With the Skate Canada national summer series requirement for 2 series events, Canadian participation in Skate Detroit has dropped in recent years...

It's good to see Evelyn Walsh is still competitive as a Junior singles skater even though she and Trent are now competing as a Senior pair...she's got incredible grit to be going for internationally certified events in two disciplines.
 
Some Canadian skaters competed at the Lake Placid Summer Figure Skating Championships. Bennet Toman took home two gold medals and scored over 200 points. No results are out yet but they should be posted here: http://www.lakeplacidskating.com/events/figure.php
There was a paid livestream but I'm not sure if anyone recorded videos or anything. There's no thread on Golden Skate either.

I recall from last year that Lake Placid doesn't post for a very long time...
 
Canada is going to have hope for some luck to have any skaters at the Grand Prix Final in their home country.

They have lost their top two ice dance teams, top two (arguably) pairs teams, top male and top female skaters. Gabby seems to be still recovering and there is absolutely no shining light in Larkyn or the fading Chartrand. Granted Messing is interesting but Nam appears to have one more year to get it together. two missed world freeskates not impressive at all. Steven G. is too young and the young up and comers seem to be struggling or still a year away Nadeau, Sadowsky, Orzel and Phan? No wonder Kevin decided to come back. Maybe he can sneak back on the world team. I wonder if they will give Kevin a TBD position at Skate Canada?

I really fear for Osmond and Weaver and Poje that even if they come back at Nationals and do okay the judges will forget them. After all there are three Russians and three Japanese ladies plus Carolina and Bradie - poor Kaetlyn might be struggling for top ten. Then there Weaver and Poje who also could find themselves outside of the top 5. I understand they may be a bit tired but a lot of teams might be tired. I just wonder is this the beginning of the end. I mean look at Patrick if what I hear is true he has taken retirement by storm with a new career - real estate, skating school most likely, wine sales and skating shows - though there doesn't seem to be not much for him other than in Canada.

Right now Japan is probably ahead of them in the team competition and maybe China too. It is assumed US and Russia are ahead for sure too.

:rofl: With all the doom and gloom, I just can't take your post seriously. Also, remember how some of our top skaters sat out of Worlds and the team still managed to keep the number of spots minus one for the next season? Ya, I wouldn't underestimate the Canadian team, especially with spots on the line for Montreal Worlds.

Skaterboy, we know from what you've shared with us before that you tend to be a "glass half full" person...

Please take heart...

The Grand Prix season after the Olympics is about building for the future not reaching for current victories...

To own future podiums, we need to be patient and accept a few ups and downs along the way...
 
I think I can say with ease that the JGP has more of a shot of producing Canadian medallists than the senior GP. But the thing with the GPF is is that it's both senior and junior top finishers. So fear not. If there's a few less Canadians at the senior GPF then those juniors will have to pick up the slack. After all, we didn't just get to 2018 without having a boatload of development and some lean years in all four disciplines.
 
and just because i wanna entertain the negativity : i couldn't care less if Canadian skaters were a bit in the shadows for a couple years... we took all of the glory in the past couple years ... we are nice Canadians ;) we like to share the spotlight.... :sarcasm:

Not really true. Gilles/Poirier would default to being one of the six, and it's quite likely at least one of the pairs teams will.

Ice dance rankings will go as they go, but if Kaetlyn returns and skates well, in no sense at all will she be struggling for the top ten. Her technical content eclipses all but a handful of current skaters.

Right now Japan is probably ahead of them in the team competition and maybe China too. It is assumed US and Russia are ahead for sure too.

What team competition?
 
Japan is ahead of everyone for World Team Trophy. Because they have the best combination of singles skaters and it's an event catered to singles skating. China though, has some work to do when it comes to ice dance and ladies.

O4G won't let anyone sleep on Kaetlyn but we should encourage people to view her as harmless so she can make her return in a low stress environment. ;)

Also these early season predictions are really funny when we don't even know most people's programs and haven't seen them skate in so long. Like does anyone even know how Fournier Beaudry/Sorensen will do? I certainly don't. I think the only time we'll have some real answers is after Nationals when people have actually competed head to head with new programs. Everything before that is guess work.
