Heh, I was looking at that ISU video on the +5/-5 scale. They use various clips to illustrate what an individual bullet point on the GOE scale looks like. One of Keegan's spins from his SP was used to illustrate the third spin GOE bullet point (effortlessness throughout), while fully three of the five bullet points for step sequences had Canadian examples: Patrick's SP for deep edges, clean steps, etc., Patrick's FS for effortlessness throughout, and Kaetlyn's FS for originality.

if you watch pairs... you will see 4 of our pairs ;) ... but not the current top finishers at world... IIRC... and some of it may surprise you... also, it's clear that an Italian made the video lol

Thanks Colonel Green for finding this. Here is the link for those wanting to view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN4RFeiuGn8

looks like nam is training his spins... this one looks pretty good... and improved... so much that someone in the comments asked if he sped up the video https://www.instagram.com/p/BlE4P65nmj5/?taken-by=namnamnoodle
Yes, definitely better.

Centred, good axis, not travelling, gets down in this sit spin, smooth consistent flow throughout.

I think this one could get a decent level even though speeding it up would be even better...

And there was something about his posture that made me think of Matthew Markell... I had to double check that it was Nam..

Could be the unconscious influence of a training mate, or that Matt's coaches are working with Nam on the spins.

to me what this also means is that nam is not a has been... he is trying to get better and not only by recovering his once steady jumps but by improving other areas of his skating.

i have been watching nam for a long time... since 2010... and the amount of talent in this boy is huge.... but sometimes life throws you curve balls.... so all i hope is that the talent will pierce the thick bark and that it will shine...

we have had too many Canadian skaters whose potential was never fully achieved.

Totally agree...

The Canadian system definitely still has things to learn and change in order to help skaters navigate through peak growth, puberty, and taking on mature responsibility for their careers...

I thought that part of the IFS interview on the NextGen program was hitting on that.

Skate Canada sees that one of the most important elements of NexGen is that it gets the skaters and coaches integrating sports science earlier...

Over time, as the coaches evolve their approaches, this should benefit all their skaters, not just those tapped for NextGen.

As much as i am going to miss V/M and Patrick I am personally very excited for our nextgen we have many promising junior or recently turned junior ice dance and men's skaters like . Aleska rakic, Stephen gogolev, Lajoie/lagha, Makita/Gunarra and Bashynska/Beaumont. very excited for them.

I think that many of us see a lot to look forward to...

But a number of us have been concerned that some of our promising Juniors and young seniors haven't reached their potential...

It's good to know that Skate Canada shares the concern, and is strategically using the new federal funding available from Sport Canada to address the issues...

I was really pleased to see our Novice skaters getting great experience at the North American Championships last week. They really need the strength on strength competition earlier on, but rarely get across the pond to participate in the European circuit.

^^ Thanks Colonel Green. If you had told me 10 years ago, if I thought there was a possibility that a women from Newfoundland & Labrador (a Canadian province not known for figure skating supremacy) would become a World Champion, and an Olympic Gold, Silver & Bronze medalist, while being ranked no. 1 in ISU World standings, I would have said that you were crazy!

Yes, the Golden Age of Canadian skating indeed, and what a ride it has been.

Errrrrmahgawd, I just saw Come From Away at the Royal Alex in Toronto.with me mudder and fadder. I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats. :yahoo: :sad21: :dance3: Although I’ll never stop resenting my brother for ruining the 2015/16 GPF for me, these tickets were the best Christmas presents ever.

Now, we need to find someone to skate to the soundtrack...

While I get the appeal of Kaetlyn skating to CFA, I don’t think the sung-through, multipart nature of the score really lends itself to a competition number.

So happy for you, Sarah. Thanks to yea 'mudder and fadder' for the best gift ever! I hear there is a cheap night, but also have heard that the $137 seats are well worth it. So perhaps in August I'll get me ar$# in gear. ;)

I think "Me and the Sky" could work. Probably as a SP. It's mostly just the one singer. When I listened to it a while ago, that was the only one I thought would fit.

On the topic of supporting our promising younger skaters, who receives an invite to the High Performance Camp? Is it limited to those named to the National Team or is it at the discretion of Skate Canada? I'm thinking of skaters like Nic Nadeau who (as was said upthread) is maybe on the bubble for the National Team but has received a GP assignment. And on a related note, does anyone know what's happening with Matthew Markell this season? I assume he's going senior? Or have I missed news on him?

And on the topic of Come From Away, obviously Joey Russell is coming out of retirement to skate a duet with Kaetlyn to the soundtrack at the Thank You Canada shows in St. John's. Until I have definitive proof otherwise, I will assume that this is happening. ;)

The high performance camp is for National Team members only...i.e. Top 5 placement at Nationals.

Not sure what that means for Nic now that Kevin Reynolds is continuing...

Next Gen skaters have their own camps and seminars...

On Matthew Markell, he has one more year of ISU eligibility as a Junior. He sounds like he's looking to earn a late JPG slot...but he'll need to demonstrate some new elements and a higher total score to get one.

I had thought that skaters not on National Team but have been assigned a Senior B or GP are invited to one day of Camp in order to get feedback.

I also seem to recall that sometimes they add a sixth skater to to National Team, though I don't know if it is too late to expect that this year. It would seem to make sense when they are rebuilding and have two National Team members who realistically may not make it to the next Olympics.
