But it seems that the Canadian ladies just disappear! Where are Madelyn Dunley, Roxanne Rheault, Sarah Tamara, Selena Zhao, Veronik Mallet???
i will answer some of your questions ... but you are really not up to date...
Roxane Rheault was never a top Canadian lady in senior. She won juniors in 2011... but the best she's ever done in Senior was a 5th place. After finishing 7th one year and losing her funding from the federation, she decided to turn
pro and go on cruiseships. She explains that if in some countries, skaters get paid to skate, in Canada, it was costing her way too much money... and more and more and more money... so she quit on her dreams - which were simply to "participate" at worlds or olympics... because when looking at the top 3 ladies in canada in 2015, she knew that the best ever she could do was probably a 5th place...
Never heard of Madelyn Dunley.. so i will let others reply about her
Sarah Tamura is still competing. She is still quite young... To me, she needs a coaching change but she hasn't disappeared.
Selena Zhao : 2015 junior Champion, but at worlds, sick with the flu, she ended in 29th ... she never really was a contender in her JGP and I don't recall her skating seniors in Canada... the latest news we had is that after high school she went to Harvard. She had foot injuries and probably thought it was better to invest in her academic career.
And now, my favourite Veronik Mallet :
Veronik has been injured for a very long time but guess what : she is on the start list for a competition next week in Montreal. However, she will face the same issues as Roxane did.... : if she wants to remain in the top 5, it will take her high level skating. At least, Veronik can pride herself with a bronze medal at Nationals. She's the only one you mention that has that achievement in her career..

welcome to 2018-19... lots of athletes come and go... it's normal : funding, academics, injuries.. and after Olympic cycles...it would be expected that many more retire.... well guess what... it doesn't seem like any from the top 5 have called it quits even after the games. Canada will probably have one of the oldest National team.

Yes, Veroink has been out with injuries and missed competing in THIS incredible time of the 'Golden Age of Canadian Skating', with our women winning 50% of the podiums the last 2 Worlds, but she is still registered to compete this season. Her grace is eternally missed by me. As far as Sarah is concerned, many on here feel with a coaching change she could be a Canadian contender.
