2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Do u think Evgenia will do loop combos and 1/2-loop-3F combos???👍

Well, that‘s just my opinion but I find half loop combos aesthetically really, really unappealing. They always look like as if there was a mistake made. Otherwise we‘ll have to wait and see. I personally have no idea what they‘re possibly trying to do. Maybe they‘ll change the layout, maybe not and just focus on SS and technique... We don‘t have any news for now whatsoever so I guess we‘ll just have to be patient.

why is that? i'm curious
It's pretty pointless. If you're going to repeat Flip and Loop, there really is next to no reason to do that.

It's only an upgrade over / competitive with some layouts if Lutz and Flip are repeated.

The reason being:

2T, 1Lo difference: 0.8 points

3L, 3T difference: 0.7 points -> senseless.

3F, 3T difference: 1.1 points -> now it makes sense.

I agree with you but sometimes I think they can look good. The way Yuzuru points his toe on the 1/2 loop/euler makes it not look like a stepout. https://twitter.com/chiburahakkai/status/972942186521100288?lang=en

Whereas, IMO, some other skaters' 1/2 loops look like stepouts (Anna Pogorilaya comes to mind).

Maybe Yuzu can teach Zhenya now that they are both at TCC! ;)

I'm pretty nervous about the new scoring system. The uncertainty of how they're gonna apply the new rules, GOE system and how it's gonna affect some skaters is stressing me out a bit. Especially for the senior ladies circuit (male senior podiums won't change i think). I wonder if they're gonna be stricter with edge calls for example, that could change things for some skaters.

TBH I doubt it will change much among ladies. Evgenia isn't the only one who benefits from lenient edge calls. You can count on one hand's fingers number of ladies with perfect jumping technique on all jumps who don't prerotate or underrotate.

I did not mention Evgenia tho :scratch2: i do know there are several girls with flutz/lips issues and most female skaters pre/underrotate. Idk why you're mentioning Zhenya. I was just wondering if the judges (with the new system) are gonna be stricter with that and how much it will affect the skaters.

Sorry. I had this thread and Evgenia fanfest opened at the same time and I mixed them up.

About being strict I also doubt anything will change. Probably big jumps with good ice coverage wil be rewarded more than small jumps and I see it as the only way new rules can hurt Russian girls as except Liza T and Polina Russian girs aren’t the biggest jumpers

Correct me if I’m wrong:
Now that some jgp entries have been published, It looks like the contenders for the Rostelecom Cup host spot are:

Serefima Sakhanovich
Elizaveta Nugumanova
Anna Pogorilaya
Sofia Samodurova
Valeria Mikhailova
Alena Leonova

I am biting my nails with anticipation!!!! Six ladies, only one spot. I want to know now!!! NOW!!!!! (Watch it not be announced till October)

no problem :agree: i just hope the isu will finally get their *blip* together, even tho i've been waiting for 10yrs and changing the rules never stopped them from making a mess :drama::palmf:

I suppose we will learn how it will work during JGP, which is fairly soon.
Overall, i think it will be same poo as it is already, its not like judges are judging strictly by textbook anyways

Unfortunately, aesthetics matter not-at-all in the CoP. 1/2 Loop combos are pretty terrible IMO, and I'd rather see a sequence instead, but they killed sequences (and then again, some more this year), and a three-jump combo is mandated, so here we are.

Well, but that‘s Yuzu. He‘s not an example, he looks elegant even when he‘s falling all over the ice😂 But I‘d love it if he could teach Zhenya a few things now that they‘re at the same club. They likely won‘t be training at the same time but since they‘re somewhat friends and she‘s no competition to him... Would definitely be nice. ;)

Tara Lipinski has a gorgeous 1/2Lo too

The Russian figure skater Darya Panenkova has left gatherings of group Eteri Tutberidze. The choreographer Daniil Gleykhengauz has told about it.

"Panenkova once again refused to come to ice, at all in a locker room answering that he doesn't want to go on a training, – "R-sport" cites words of Gleykhengauz. – To her also at all it has been told by Eteri Georgiyevna (Tutberidze) that or she comes to ice, or leaves gatherings. It is remarkable that this day there was her mother. They have preferred to leave gatherings of group".

sounds weird that a skater who got 2 senior GP assignments suddenly doesn't want to train... need more info

Agree. I can‘t imagine she‘d sit in the locker room and vehemently state that she doesn‘t want to continue training for no reason at all. Something must have happened and I wonder what. Well, I guess we‘re not likely to find out unless she herself tells us. Or Eteri... in her usual way. Do we know where she moved to yet?
