2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Gubanova doesn't really have the tangible achievements... For instance, Anna Shcherbakova won the elder age nationals at a younger age(and with a higher score). Trusova was already 4th at Russian jr nationals as a novice skater etc. And Sofia Akatieva's achievements up until this point are, of course, completely unmatched. Still, if we look past the actual achievements, Gubanova was great especially in 15-16. But she unfortunately had the problem that she would start her seasons strong and finish them poorly, when all the important competitions were going on.

Akatieva and Berestovskaya have great merits, of course, but it'd be great if Veronika Zhilina ended up becoming the novice skater to beat. :agree:

That's great, but I still think that the focus with that discussion being on the skater performing quads and reaching heights never reached before isn't right. It's you trying hard to paint her achievements in a negative light.
If she gets rewarded for a quad that is a half rotation short due to prerotation

- is it the same achievement as one fully rotated in air?

- is it respectful to women to say it's okay to prerotate because she's female?

- is that amount of repeated torque on her ankle due to prerotation a formula for her to be another skater whose injured out at 17 or 18?

Well, I guess she scored around 5 points more than a set of skaters ... Then again, that's not really what I was referring to. Is 200p at Russia Cup 1 etap at the age of 12 years and 9 months more impressive than 194p at Russian Junior Nationals at the age of 12 years and 7 months? To me it's not ...

Yes because quads require 3.25 revolutions in the air, which she hits. You might complain about numerous skaters not achieving proper triples.

This discussion on pre-rotation could just as well be done on the Canadian thread, or the Japanese ladies thread. Doing it here, focusing on the skater doing quads, can in my eyes only be seen as malicious and as an attempt to undermine her achievements.

omg i finally found this video again! i have been looking for it for years! can't speak russian so i did not know where to look!
:luv17::love:

I just watched it three times while doing yoga poses and trying to find some inner peace! :peace:

Technique discussions aside, I love so many Russian ladies that it's hard to be upset at any given time. I can't wait for this season!

I still remember having a lump in my throat after watching it for the first time back then.

OK badass, try to challenge my candidate for the sassiest U8 performer ever!

I don't think discussing technical issues is trying to paint any skater's achievements in a negative light. I for one, was quite impressed with Trusova when she landed two different quads in her FS at WJC and succeeding in getting the highest technical score, a record in women's figure skating. But after the initial bliss, reality sets in and sometimes questions need to be asked. The achievement is technical in nature so of course people are going to discuss those issues. Some people seem to have been getting ahead of themselves, saying that a number of skaters are going to retire this and next season because they don't stand a chance against the likes of Trusova, for example. And it's not surprising that people are alarmed with such sentiments when the supposed reason is a prospective unbeatable technical score, from not ideal technique. And as we've seen, this is an issue in men's figure skating and now that it's a point of discussion, we are hoping that these issues can be looked at during the onset of a potential quad revolution in ladies.

Anna is so cute even then but my goodness that costume is right up there with the cello-butt one and the lime-green unitard in my opinion...

there's nothing new to talk about! we're bored

It’s really hard to get bored in this thread...but if we really are to that point how about watching this warm up from the final group at this year’s Junior Nationals.

If that’s not your thing maybe we could pick Exhibition Songs for the skaters. Who’s going to Courchevel? They used to do exhibitions there.

I choose Trololololo for them!

This is my all-time fave warm up. The after-Olympic moment, big names, music and the tension are incredible. The air is so thick you could cut it with a knife.:hopelessness:

Every single one of these girls is afraid Yulia is gonna jump up to the ceiling or spin through the ice to the basement.

Shcherbakova is the most beautiful fairy I've ever seen :luv17: I know everybody is in love with Alena's gorgeous face, but Anna is my kind of girl, stunning! And what is more, since she has the first GP over Sasha, she might become the first lady EVER to land a quad lutz in a competition! :eeking: how exciting is that!

Random question... Did any of top or somewhat top girls ever skate to "прекрасное далеко"?
Asking here because if any lady skated to it, likely to be a russian ;)

Oh, recently I've been listening to this piece, a kids choir version! I'd love somebody use it and wondered about whether it was used or not before too:)

I don't think it would work as a program soundtrack
