2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I just watched Alena Kostornaia's SP. This was my first time watching her, and I was really impressed! Of all the Russian junior women, I think that she has the best chance of success when she turns senior. She seems to have gone through most of her growth, and her skills are all well-developed, with good technique. She seems physically strong and powerful, and connects really well with her music. Unlike several of the other Russian junior women, Alena's movements all seem purposeful and are fully completed, with good stretch and positions. I found her program very engaging. I look forward to seeing her FS! :)

well actually she is still quite small (e.g. smaller than trusova). but her perfect lines and posture make her look so much bigger than she is. she already owns the ice

Oh really? That's very interesting to learn! Trusova looks incredibly tiny and child-like to me (like mid-four feet range), but I thought that Alena looked more around five feet and closer to an adult's body shape. Alena definitely has a very mature, commanding presence on the ice.

As expected, Kanysheva and Sinitsyna have withdrawn from Open Moscow Cup.
Tarakanova and Ryabova, as well as Kromykh, have also withdrawn.
Vasilieva was never entered. Gubanova is now skating - she is by far the oldest competitor there.

They have different figures. Trusova is very slim (very childlike built) and that’s why she looks so tiny. Kostornaya is not that slim, she is obviously not fat or anything but have much more robust built (more like a female approaching puberty) than Trusova and that’s way she appears to be higher than Trusova.

Where can we check the list? Thank you!

Alena Kostornaia was beautiful, my favorite skater (junior or senior) at the moment. So many intricate details performed with precision (arms, head, body position). I love how she lands like a cat and extends her free leg. And the transitions... That huge 2A from Ina Bauer to Falling Leaf is just ridiculous.
She is actually shorter than both Anna and Sasha.

Alena is 10 months other than Trusova.

Wasn't it reported somewhere that Tarakanova said she has do to well there to get a JGP? Or was it some other competition? Or am I mistaken

I would rather see more girls get two spots, as much as I love Nastya. Plushenko really doesn't seem an obvious choice, since the facilities are more crowded, he's newer, and he's not good at establishing consistency which is what Nastya needs now that she's back on the ice after her illness. I would've changed my mind had I seen her at Open Moscow, but now she's not even going. That seems odd to me since she said that she needed to do well there to get the spot.

Yes, that was for here. So I am wondering if her JGP will just be taken away now.

I don't think Nastya would have pulled out of Moscow Open if her JGP spot was still dependent on her competing there. The field is relatively weak so it would be worth giving the competition a shot even if she wasn't 100% in shape...it would certainly be better than willingly giving away a JGP spot.

Perhaps the situation has changed backstage and it's no longer necessary for her to go to Moscow Open? Or maybe there was some misunderstanding about the original situation, i.e. Nastya was stressing about having a good performance at her JGP so one of the coaches told her not to get ahead of herself and that she needed to go clean at Moscow Open first.

(of course she could be injured but I think I saw a recent post about her on AofP so I doubt that...)

UPDATE

I just checked on the Angels of Plushenko instagram and if you check the comments on their latest post they seem to confirm that Nastya is going to go to Canada.

I hope not! I really want to see her at the jgp. She was my favorit of the eteri girls last year...

She might have an “off” season due to her injury issues and come back next season with a bit more of an open ffeild. Hopefully even better. I don’t think she’s in a do or die situation. No reason to rush things. Nothing wrong with being 15 or 16 on the JGP. I think you have three years eligibility.

I honestly don’t care when but I sure hope we see her get back to the form we’ve seen her demonstrate. Be it this season or not.

It is true that it is probably better for tarakanova to do jgp next season as well (unless she somehow gets a GP). When eteris wonder juniors have moved to senior she probably have a bigger chance in the jgp than this year

Well... the new Eteri trio is coming up. They're not currently at the level of this one, but with Eteri, at least one or two should make a big splash. We'll see Valieva and Usacheva at Open Moscow.

There will be 3 new Eteri juniors, though. Perhaps they'll also be wonder juniors.
