Don't you think that Kostornaya can repeat Sakhanovich's fate? She also was outstanding in her first junior season (13/14), then she started to struggle with puberty, make mistakes, but still managed to win both JGP and become second in everything else... but in 15/16 season she fell apart completely. I wonder if it will be with Alena because she already have serious problems with jumps.

I don't think there is any comparison. Sakhanovich's had the wrong jump technique to start with, and even in her best days, her spins were terrible. Alena is opposite of the above.

Serafima has great spins. Not flexible but they are fast and very impressive. :roll5:

Alena Kostornaya might be my new favourite Russian lady. She is charming and wonderful. I really hope she is around for years to come.

Since when does Alena have problems with jumps? She just skated two clean programs with only a slightly shaky landing on a 3T. I love Sima but her jumps always weren‘t the best to begin with. Especially her 2A was scary.
And Sima‘s case was very unfortunate. She didn‘t have good luck, her flat was robbed then her family couldn’t afford to stay in Moscow with Eteri, she changed coach a lot and generally struggled. I‘m sure had she got a bit more stability, she could have coped better. Maybe not become World Champion but move to seniors, win a few GP assignments and challengers etc.
But tbh, I don‘t see where your comparison to Alena is coming from at all. Alena‘s jumps are wonderful.
And about Sima: Judging from her instagram, she‘s improving on her jumps. I wish her good luck for this season.

I don't see Alena has "serious problems with jumps". Rather as long as what I've seen in yesterday's LP, she was under pressure and tensed. And the program needs to be polished. It's not an easy program to put all the elements like that in it and show it easy and natural. She needs more time for this program for sure. From all the interview I've seen, this girl has a strong head and mind. She will be ok.

Just realized that Osmond has retired or at least is skipping the whole season which is virtually rhe same in the current dynamic environment.Then who could chalenge Russian skaters in seniors (we all know that no one in juniors)? The Japanese? I don't think that Caro will find motivation for yet another season. Gracie? Too good to be true. I think it's time to start "Ladies power ranking" thread.
But why she was "tensed"? It's ordinary JGP event, her easiest competition this season. What will she do with pressure in JGPF? In Junior Nationals?

Actually I see similar situation to 2017 Worlds. The winner to be most likely Russian and the other medals to go to Japanesse ladies replacing the Canadians.

You do know that they‘re young girls and not robots, right? They have feelings and sometimes they‘re more nervous, othertimes more relaxed. She showed that she can handle the pressure all last season. But it was different back then. She virtually came out of nowhere, people didn‘t know her yet. Now she‘s a star. There are expectations on her. And after Anna having a perfect debut, she likely was feeling pressure to deliver, too. Or it migh have been something else we don‘t even think about. But how on earth are you jumping from she was feeling more nervous before a skate but still skated cleanly to she will completely fall apart? That’s what doesn‘t make sense to me.
If I had to bet, I‘d bet my money on the Japanese and/or Caro. I do think Caro will do another season or at least I strongly hope so. And the Japanese are strong this year with many juniors turning senior and of course reigning World Silver Medallist Wakaba Higuchi who I think is more hungry than ever. We don‘t know what state Medvedeva and Zagitova are in yet (+ undetermined Russian #3 ) so nothing‘s set in stone. But I strongly believe Evgenia and Alina will continue to dominate. Test skates should give us indications.

It means that either Medvedeva or Zagitova should falter. There was no Zagitova in 2017. And this season WC is the main event. I think they will be 1 and 2. I can't say who is 1 and who is 2. Test skates give good first impression. Like last year I was blown away by Medvefeva's SP but was unsure about her FP. And she changed it having shown potential vulnerability. Well, her 236 total score was still monstrous but she lost anyway. Another question is Polina or Maria. Both at their best can score above 210 - Wakaba, Kaori, and Mai's usual range. Both were inconsistent. So, unless someone goes first I shall start power ranking thread after test skates.

I did notice she was nervous and that made me a bit scared, but nevertheless she delivered like a BOSS! So I would say I am now perhaps even more confident that she can handle the pressure even when she's visibly nervous.

I also think Medvedeva and Zagitova will be 1st and 2nd at Worlds. I really can‘t say who‘ll win because they‘re both probably more hungry than ever for this title. Alina maybe more so than Evgenia. Orser told Evgenia that she‘s in for the long run she doesn‘t need to win every World Championships on the way. But Alina likely will do everything to win this year after last season‘s terrible outing at this particular event.
If Wakaba could do the 3Lz-3Lo she did in juniors again and maybe even trained 3A, she could challenge the Russians. But for now I don‘t see it tbh. Even though I love her and always thought she’s underscored. Kaori is lovely but she has problems with flutz. Don‘t know much about Mai, I only remember her FS to Cinderella at 2017 World Team Trophy, I think, and she wasn‘t really that interesting to me. Maybe I should look at her again and how she‘s improved.
Polina is the biggest question mark at the moment, I think. Maria is likely going to be the same she was last season, good jump technique but prone to lots of UR. Polina however.. if she gets back to the state her jumps were in in juniors, with that gorgeous delayed Lutz (and not underrotating of course), she‘s going to be amazing. Now that she‘s not with Eteri anymore, I can really see her taking that 3rd spot for Worlds. If she‘s on. There‘s that if. She really can‘t afford mistakes and weakness. Because from what I‘ve seen, Liza looks ready to take the post-Olympic season by storm, like she did last time... It will be an interesting season for sure!

I think it's too early to make predictions for Worlds for both Alina and Evgenia, at the very least until we see their test skates and how they do at Challengers. Between the new rules, Evgenia's trauma recovery and new coach and Alina's possible growing pains, there's a lot that can go wrong. I hope the season goes well for both and they'll be the ones to compete for gold at Worlds, but for now I feel like it's too early to predict their dominance. Even though a part of me, of course, has already given them the first two spots on Russia's national team.
I'm very curious if Liza can snatch up the third spot. Kind of rooting for her, I think. I find her way more interesting than Maria. And yeah, Polina is a total wild card for now.

For sure Trusova and Sinitsyna, since the draw will be done before the competition ends (or right around the same time) and they'd have to fly out the replacement girl out to Lithuania. Besides, both Trusova and Sinitsyna are strong. With any other girl who hasn't skated yet, there would be a much larger possibility of Araki getting silver. Hopefully Sinitsyna will be able to land everything (including her 3 combos in the second half of the free) and easily clinch the silver behind Trusova's gold.
