2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8W1oDnJy6g

Some sort of an amazing exhibition show. At least Elena Radionova, Daniil at the panel... The average level is very high artistically, I would say. Almost everything has been watchable. Age range seems to be... Around 6-10?

Thank you for sharing this!

This little man really is a Pluschenko mini-me :eeking: That's the boy hugging Yuzuru on the ice at Rostelecom, isn't he?
Is there actually a thread on GS for Russian men? Sorry for the off-topic, I got too excited

Do you really all think RusFed will abandon Evgenia for moving abroad to train? Being OSM she was more popular in media than OGM (with all respect to Alina and her accomplishment) and she was the face of actions which in the end let Russian athletes compete in Korea. Not to mention no matter who she will train with nobody will take from her the medals she got during her 3 seasons as senior when a lot of people saw her in 2015 as One Season Russian Wonder. Do you really think Sotskova, Konstantinova and Panenkova will suddenly beat her at RusNats despite the fact that Evgenia still gets 10 points more internationally with mediocare skate than Maria or Stanislava during heavily overscored national championship? And finally Evgenia isn't some Russian skater from Russia - she is role model for many upcoming stars. Zagitova, Trusova, Akatieva even Shoma Uno said they are looking up to Evgenia. If RusFed will truly stop supporting her it will be like suicidal shot.

BTW I still prefer to wait until tomorrow before I get too excited about Canada

Yeah, I was wondering... When I was looking at Twitter during the Olympics, Medvedeva was by far the most popular lady from what I could tell. Daleman, Tursynbaeva... Which majority exactly prefers them over the Russians?

By majority I assume a very tiny minority is meant.

We all see what happened to russians girls at WC, when Med was absent. They almost lost the 3rd spot. Orser or not, she will NOT be dropped by RusFed, at least in the next season.

Not next season. But if she does not show results next season, she will be dropped.

It just depends on the skater, tbh. I really enjoy Medvedeva and Kostornaia, and Pogorilaya when she was on as well. At the same time, I like Yuzuru, Javi and I really like Gabby when she's on as well, while I dislike Kostantinova and Sotskova's skating. It's more about the skaters imho. I will never like all Russians just like I will never like all TCC skaters, ecc ecc ecc

Something I just don’t understand: how is it possible that Zagitova (well, her and Sotskova and Big Spender) has both a correct lutz AND a correct flip?!?!? Do u know how incredibly hard that is? Not even the greats of the past could do that! How is it possible to learn to do both?

My theory is: Alina originally only had a small arsenal of jumps. She learned her toe jumps after moving to Eteri. There was no one who taught her to do the wrong edge as a little girl. She completely skipped over those bad habits because she had to learn quickly. ????

Just out of curiosity, assuming that Medvedeva goes to Orser - who was the last Russian lady to train abroad with a foreign coach?

I actually looked into this some days ago...

In reality, Zagitova used to flutz. Then after moving to Eteri, she was able to fix it.

I'm not sure Orser will necessarily help Evghenia go in the right direction. I've never been a fan of the artistic side of any of his athletes.

It will definitely be better than Eteri's choreography, but that's not saying much imo, because I feel any choreography is better than the ones given to her students. I am not that impressed with Orser's students artistically either. Javi was always a pretty good performer. I prefer Hanyu's artistry prior to going to Canada. Elizabet's performance quality has been underwhelming. I am also not a big fan of David Wilson's choreography, which is the style that most of the skaters adopt. I think he is very good at instilling confidence in his skaters, which does help their performances.

3F-1/2loop-3F !!!!! Omg, Evgenia could totally do that! It’s a unique combination. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen her do 1/2loop-3F combos in practice.

-1Lo-3F is a suboptimal combo and only potentially worthwhile for skaters who are able to repeat both Flip and Lutz. It's a shame because I like the combo. But you don't want to do a 1Lo instead of a double jump.

But are you sure about that? I really don't think either Daleman or Tursynbaeva have very good choreo, even compared to Averbukh who I really dislike.

Gleihengauz is doing the best choreos in the world now. He does both programs and exs. Videos with his choreos are always the most poular on all resourses. ANd he also made SP for JWC Pavluchenkp/Khodykin and that's why i become to love this pair

It would raise Evgenia’s BV by about 0.10, actually, if she moved it to the second half and opened with 3S+3T instead. Otherwise she’d just about break even: she’d lose 0.80 points replacing a +2T but then she could gain +0.70 points replacing a +3T with another 3Lo. And considering her Axel and toeloop quality vs her other jumping abilities, I’m not entirely convinced she wouldn’t be better off with a 3F+Lo+3F than the 2A+2T+2T.

I don’t think Tursynbaeva has good choreo either, or st least not choreo that fits her. But Daleman seems to like her choreo and I think it does play to her strengths— it’s just that she’s not a naturally artistic skater and her choreographers chose bad music cuts so it’s a wash. Evgenia I think would be more involved in the process, and I think David Wilson or especially Shae-Lynn Bourne would be able to take a good piece of music she really wants to skate to and put together a good program to it that highlights Evgenia’s performance quality... unlike Averbukh, who was a bit of a one-hit wonder to me and whose choreography since I often feel to be more of an uninspired testament to his own vanity than any particular effort to put together a god program for the skater.

Med should train a 3S-3Lo, so she dumps her repeated -3T, and instead can backload a 3F.

Oh, and should train a 2A-2T-2Lo. Don't know why she hasn't.

Done.
