2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Is there any way that two of the skaters at Europeans do not go to worlds. Alina and Liza should be well by worlds, but maybe not Europeans.

Well, the fact that Eteri wasn't at practice tells me that her and Alina might still arrive later today. I can't really think of a reason why they wouldn't go with the rest of the group, but it's a possibility.

Yep, it is likely that Alina would be chosen over Liza (which is reasonable).

While I understand the prestige of Euros for European skaters. I feel this is so sad for Liza.

I would prefer they take the Japanese approach from last year and divide the championships up; give Liza Euros and Alina worlds.

Maybe she‘s just tired, or decided to train at home and will arrive later?? But that seems a bit weird considering the rest of the team was there. Hopefully it will still turn out to be true. Alina missing RusNats would be terrible and would make the entire situation with Liza and the coaches’ council even more complicated.

Apparently teamzagitova on IG said that she will arrive tonight or tomorrow morning. It would certainly explain why Eteri wasn't there - probably flying in with Alina. that's what I'm hoping for at least.

I really hope that Alina is okay, although I've been worried ever since I first saw the tapes on her legs. She's so young! :sad21:

Okay, now I‘m relieved. That‘s good. Still doesn‘t explain why she missed practice but I‘ll take that explanations if it means that she‘s healthy and ready to compete.

I love Evgenia's new SP. The drama and intensity suits her. And that StSq is a MASTERPIECE.

And hey, we really shouldn't talk crap on David Wilson. When he's great, he's GREAT. Several masterpieces with Javier and Yuna. But he really only seems to make masterpieces with certain skaters. It doesn't click with others.

Orange-Colored Sky was a better program than the Tango LP, IMO, but Evgenia just wasn't able to interpret it while also focusing on her jumps, I guess? Which is odd...she's been good at the facial acting in the past, but it might be more difficult now that everything else takes more effort for her.

How would such a sequence benefit for her actual program?
Idk. Most likely it's just stamina or jump combinations training. It's easier to jump "simple" quads combos if you are used to such lengthy and difficult ones. Typical Eteri style :confused2:

I’ve started to think of programs as partnerships between skaters and choreographers, as I probably should have all along. Sometimes it clicks and magic happens, sometimes it doesn’t. There’s no way to know until you try. And this is the best year to try!

I agree

Tarasova alongside Brian like if she was her second coach, that was funny.

But yeah the program is about what i was expecting: i like it, good effort in the steps sequence, smart slow intro which gives her time to set the combination. She's going safer with the frontloaded combo and the 3lo instead of the lutz, i think it's a smart choice: she's going to get big scores anyway and she needs to build more consistency, there is no reason to risk everything now.

Meds new program is great! Loads better than the crap Wilson choreography.

Poor David, he's great but i think he needs more time to understand Evgenia.
