2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I feel like Tarakanova can as well retire. Trusova has 3 diff quads 4Lz 4S 4T. Kostornaya has 3A and backloads everything else, who knows? Maybe she’ll backload the 3A as well, she’s also training the 4T. Shcherbakova had the fully-rotated 4T3T3Lo combo last season and I’m sure she’ll pick it back up soon. Tarakanova has nothing, she’ll never even have a chance to go to junior worlds with these three, not to mention others. I don’t see her having a future in FS.

1. Trusova's quad success rate is not that great. Landing 4s is impressive but in this season she fell on it more often than not
2. I want to see Kostornaya's 3A in competition. Otherwise it's for me like You Young's 3A - only in the internet
3. Anna hasn't got her quads yet
4. Just because Nastya is't talking about improving her BV doesn't mean she isn't planning it

Also I want to add that while Trusova and Kostornaya are great on the ice and hopefully will also be during and after Puberty, I feel that Tarakanova will be getting more PCS on the senior level than she is getting now which will benefit her total score.

Sherbakova's last competition, 2 days ago was a disaster. In FS fell on almost every jump. What quads are you taking about? She can't do triples properly , at least for now

Well, she had three falls... And the off season would be expected to help her considering she didn't really have a proper one at all to prepare for this season. Remember that her jump content still has been similarly difficult to Zagitova's.

Yes, she also had a broken leg (and arm!) less than a year ago
To even have her triples back, let alone a fully backloaded FS, in just that one year is incredible
Yes, she didn't have a great FS here or at junior nationals. But watch her at the junior Cup Final -- that shows you what she's really capable of. Plus her 4T-3T-3Lo combo from last year.
Why don't you let her have a good off-season to recover and prepare for next year before you say she "can't do triples properly"?

Exquisite girl.....always loved watching her skate...Her facial expression is always of sadness. Hope good health follows her.

Her beauty is huge. I hope her hunger to compete is huge too. But I am concerned after the injuries and falls at worlds last year. Keep your fingers crossed for Anna.

If Anna P is indeed going to Plushenko, I can't think of a more perfect fit. Plushenko certainly has experience bouncing back from his myriad of back issues and would certainly be able to relate to what she is experiencing.

The thing is that it is not Plushenko who mostly trains in that school; he seems to be very often away and the other coaches work instead.

The depth of Russian ladies is really breathtaking. I found myself really enjoying the kids' talent show, especially this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8K7ojCmZJE&t=12s
I figured out this girl was eliminated because she couldn't do a 2A. But honestly, her skating is so intriguing. The way her body moves and the unique choreography are so beyond her age. All the kids have amazing skating skills and musicality.

I really liked Liza. She even wore Alina's old dress (or one REALLY similar!) She picked a big piece of music but I thought she had great musicality :)

Anna P. is moving to Plushenko? Is there any official article on this? She really needed to move from her previous coach; their relationship was obviously not working anymore. But I didn't expect Plushenko's school.

I am not optimistic about this move. Lets be honest Plushenko is not there 90% of the time, none of his coaching team is known for success with elite skaters. With Anna's chronic back problem she needs all the attention she can get. My guess this move is more about her going professional and she will do very well in shows, but I doubt we'll see Anna to complete at her previous level. It's terrible but at least she had lots of medals some Russian ladies disappear even before they can achieve something.

What do you think about Alina? Will Eteri and her team make an easier SP and LP than the SP this year? I mean, it was hard for her to skate new SP all first part of the season and two new programmes this year with similar technical content (as this year) would be too much for Alina.

All things depend on the rules changes. It's strange to make a new program without rules.

As fas as I understood from pk after Milano, Eteri saied that nobody will let them make all jumps in the second part and that the programmes are ready but they keep it in a secret even from their skaters. Maybe she ment music but not tech part of the programmes.

Yeah, She talked about music.

Am I understanding this correctly that Eteri said in an interview that she believes the ISU will ban backloading? Does anyone know this for sure or is it purely speculation?

A speculation. However Eteri may has some insider information from Lakernik.

I completely agree. So far Plushenko's school appears to be more of a professional/show troupe than a competitive training group, and Anna knows that. Even if he dedicates his time to coaching, how good he is good at coaching is still unknown.

Yes, it makes sense that she would. I am really torn on this if it happens. On one hand, it seems kind of silly for the ISU to be worrying about this now. Surely it was foreseeable that if they create a bonus for jumps that are completed in the second half people will start doing them all in the second half to get the bonus. On the other, the entire reason for the bonus was to encourage people to do jumps in the second half because the tendency to do them in he first half to get them out of the way on fresh legs would seem unbalanced. So it makes sense that if all of the jumps completed in the first half appears unbalanced then the same would be true for completing all the jumps in the second half.

I guess I'm resistant to the idea that it is only jumps that can make a program "balanced". I mean if a skater does all three spins in the second half is that unbalanced? If they do StSq immediately followed by ChSq is that unbalanced because there is too much skating not broken up by jumps and spins? It just seems that this rule would open the door to a lot of unnecessary policing when skaters should be able to do their required elements in whatever order they choose as long as they are actually doing their elements (including the spins, StSq, and ChSq) and not just randomly skating around. It also seems unfair that they don't police the pairs in the same way, as pairs often do their jumping elements one after the next in the first half.
