2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

"Я буду продолжать выступать за Российскую Федерацию, оставаясь в школе «Самбо-70», тренируясь при этом у канадского специалиста Брайана Орсера. Делаю я это для того, что бы использовать новые возможности и другие методики тренировочного процесса и продолжать представлять Россию на самом высоком уровне."

Well there we have it. She's coming to Toronto! Thanks for sharing ^_^ I hope she keeps her comment to do this, it seems that saying more will not help her.

This needs a new thread now tbh.

Evgenia is so darn classy. <3

Ah, I'll add a brief translation to the quote even though mine isn't good enough for me to really translate Russian. But from what I can tell it says she'll stay with Russia, represent Sambo-70 and train with Brian Orser.

So boring, lol!!
Where is the drama, Evgenia??

But also wow she was so incredibly classy and respectful in that, I really admire the mental attitude it takes to be able to say such respectful things after all that has gone on.

Good for her ~ Seems like RusFed (or somebody in RusFed) is backing her over Eteri - could have made Eteri even more livid :p

Now, the biggest question is: is Eteri gonna get messier? Tune in to find out!

Russians seem to value loyalty and nationalism, so they don't have good eyes for someone (even being Evgenia) who leaves like that after 11 years of what it looked a perfect coach-skater relationship. And also they don't seem to like the fact that Evgenia will train abroad with a non Russian coach.

TBH, I am somewhat tempted to side with Eteri on this one.

I actually happened to watch (while in a different environment) when a student ditched a professor who advised him for over 10 years, since undergraduate to doctor degree, by stopping talking and answering calls / e-mails entirely, and i've seen how devastated the professor was in this situation. In Eteri's case, it is kinda clear that Evgenia was her favorite (i mean, just watch the body language in K&C, and see how many fans complained that Eteri showed clear favoritism towards Evgenia, and that Alina was not loved enough and blabla).

It's not about non-russian coaches. Many russians have non-russian coaches. People mostly angered about HOW she did it. Doesn't seem classy.

She was classy, I didn't expect something else from Evgenia.
But it was an easy interview, in fact it was just a statement. Where are the heaviest questions (the messages' answers, what she said about Alina if she said so?)

As for Evgenia, i'm kinda curious to see how it goes. I´m mildly suspicious it is a sort of retirement, kinda same as Lipnitskaya + Urmanov or Sotnikova + Plushy.

PS: I kinda disagree about classy. Not answering the messages was not a classy move. Changing coaches after denying it was not a classy move.

This is a stmt from FSRussia. Give her time, she'll need to address the Alina comments stated by Eteri.

Didn't she refuse to answer any questions from the press? (I saw something on twitter) Which is absolutely the wise thing to do LOL

No, she doesn't need to do anything.

She made her statement and hopefully, she'll pack and toddle off to Japan as soon as possible, while avoiding the media.

My sister's husband dumbed her after 10 years together. But so what, that's life. There are times people want to move on. I would be mad at her ex husband but I would not advise my sister to go to his office and made a fuss over there for his colleagues to see how messy they were as a couple. Do you think the colleagues care if the guy was a bad husband? They might think so but it does not matter to their work. As long as he does his work well, who cares. They only see how pitiful my sister was. :drama: Same with this case. That's all.

As everyone else has mentioned, it is a classy and even touching statement. Pretty sad that an 18-year-old girl showed 100 times the control of an adult woman. I hope Evgenia continues to take the high road if she gives future interviews. Even if that Eteri said is all true, he fact that she decided to play out the drama in the media and not deal with it in a mature controled way says a lot about the type of person she is. There are so many talented girls in her school. I think they would be wise to find another coach because if she is willing to behave this way with her "favorite" just think what will come their way in the future.

The statement was classy. Absolutely correct statement from the communication point of view.
She's moving because she want to fight and she's a fighter so I doubt she'll have the same fate as the girls you mentioned.

I don’t think you go to Borser if you want to retire simply because he is expensive and a very prestigious coach unlike urmanov and even Plushy but that’s just me.

We don’t know the full story about the break down in their relationship but for all we now Eteri or Zhenya could be justified. However Zhenya’s speech is far more adult and mature and respectful of Eteri than Eteri’s which seems to be ripping the teenager and her rep apart. Additionally most people would be angry and want to retaliate but Zhenya didn’t so that also says something about her.

She might not need to address it in public, but Eteri's comments will hurt her relations w/ other skaters.
