2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

The view of landing in this 3F was actually blocked by a skater so we don't actually know how rotated it is.
I do notice Kostornaya from the video (she looks so tall in comparison:rofl:)
Ah, we can tell enough! Unless she for some reason completely ceased rotating, that definitely should be fully rotated. The rotation speed is good, the height is very good. Looks to be 17/30 frames which indeed is very good. Especially for her age(9 at the time). I don't think Zagitova even gets 17/30 on her Flip right now.

I mean if you really think about it, having a champion athlete is actually contributing to the economy. I presume Russia taxes her endorsements, prize money, and money earned at shows (at home and abroad)? In this way it may actually be in the country’s financial interest to pay for foreign training if it provides a better opportunity to win prize money and gain endorsements. Also, the foreign exposure may create more business opportunities. Look how popular Zhenya is in Japan. I’m not sure this will translate to Canadian/US popularity but it can’t hurt.

I think their reluctance with funding her is that at this time Orser is an unproven entity in terms of training Russian figure skating champions. However if he and Zhenya are able to outperform Eteri’s girls in the upcoming years you’ll see a lot more kids undergoing foreign training. But I’m not sure how likely that is.

Actually, her prize money wouldnt cover the full costs of her training in Canada even if rusfed confiscates it all ^^ Just saying.

Basically, the reluctance is kinda simple:
- Orser is an unproven entity. Moreover, he had no star ladies after Yuna.
- There are better coaches in Russia for ladies (Eteri beats Orser by a large margin, and tbh we can say Sotskova currently performs better than Orser's ladies, so add Buyanova too).
- Orser is expensive as hell for Russian standards. Ahen, pensions of USD250/month to a hourly rate of more than USD110.
- The money the team members receive as funding would be pretty much irrelevant to such costs. Also, this funding is mostly not $$$ as people pointed out, but direct investment in rinks and so on.

Last but not least, I will be a bit honest here. Before reading, you may research a bit on what happened during 90s in Russia to understand the logic.
- Mistrust of western methods: we had a lot of experiences with the west making money on russians during 90s, we don't like that. Unlike russian coaches, Orser doesn't get paid for results, but hourly regardless of results. He already stated that the first 6 months will cost more than usual. He already stated that it will take over a year for his coaching methods to lead to visible results. He got nothing to lose if Medvedeva fails, because he can just make a sad face and say she came injured and it was beyond repair.

- Orser is an unproven entity.

I understand that you don't think RusFed should help Med with funding, even though she has done more than enough for RusFed including being their most successful lady, but... unproven? He has 3 OGM, 1OSM, 1OBM, 4 WC Golds and a bunch of silver\bronze, 4GPF gold and other medals... like. Gabby and Lil Bet haven't been as successful as Yuna but that's because they are not champion caliber skaters. Med is.

I remember back then when the Yuna split happened, Borser told in an interview that he is not THAT expensive.. He told that he was paid 2000 dollars a month back in 2010.. I´m sure he changed that after all his success but I feel if Borser wants to train you, he will meet you halfway

Zhenia is not consistent past 18.
Miyahara is only consistent due to extremely bad technique, so it is debatable.
Osmond is not consistent, when was the last time she skated 2 clean programs back to back again?
Yuna did not compete past 19.
Mao, is it the one with URs and other issues?

Ok, so far you managed to list only one consistent skater. Anybody else?

As for Radionova and Tuktamysheva, i think it was written over 100 times in this thread already. The failure to make the team is not related to them performing poorly, it is related to the next generation of girls being simply better. They are not declining, they are just not able to go to major competitions because Russia has limited spots, and there are stronger new skaters now.

Orser's consistent results are debatable. I mean, please point at least one Orser's skater that has consistent results. Hanyu? No, he has major ups and downs, and the difference between his max and min scores in any season is something like 50. That is like, the BV of 4 quads. Javi? Same story. Daleman?

The debate about consistency is a very difficult one. We have to remember that we‘re talking about humans here. Sure, they‘re elite athletes and stumbling in every major competition is not a good sign but to call somebody like Yuzuru Hanyu not consistent when he‘s won TWO BACK TO BACK OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALS just because „he had some ups and downs“ that‘s - to my mind - simply ridiculous. Yeah, he had some ups and downs. Of course he had. He‘s a human, not a robot. It‘s the same for someone like Kaetlyn Osmond, Satoko Miyahara and co. We can call someone like Gabby Daleman inconsistent, though, because her performances are really either great or completely bad. But Osmond? Kostner? Hanyu? Even Medvedeva? Really? And just saying, Javi is a two time world champion. He‘s just won an individual Olympic bronze. So what if he had rough times. He overcame them and showed a good performance. Don‘t you have bad days, too?

And Yuna won an Olympic Silver Medal when she was 23. If you call that „not performing“... Well... Just saying. It‘s okay to like younger skaters like Alina or Trusova. I‘m a fan of some, too. Namely, Alina, Kostornaya and Sherbakova. But it doesn‘t mean I feel the need to shame other skaters and call them inconsistent when they‘re everything but that.

I meant to the Russians. They don’t know that he is superior to the current Russian coaches. Of course he’s proven himself as a coach.

Also I do want rusfed to support her. I was just stating why they might not.

Did someone just call Yuzuru Hanyu inconsistent? He has been seizing either gold or silver medal ONLY in the past three seasons, in ALL competitions he participated (14 in total). Not a single bronze. Not a single time off the podium.

To extend the list, it has been either gold or silver for him since 2012, i.e. the past SIX seasons, with the exception of WC2013 and NHK2014 (that's 28 competitions in total).

Plushenko: Trusova will be able to jump quads after turning senior.

I really like Yuzu as a skater and a person and his achievements are really great, but he isn't Russian lady atm. Sorry

random question, ive been lurking around and found a bunch of interviews with russian FS costume designers.
are you folks interested in translations?

Not really, but i'll appreciate if you provide us with links )
Btw, I hope Evgenia will continue to work with Olga. Her dresses this season are to die for.

This is how you encourage and help promote the sport and it’s athletes. SRSLY....who in the heck would want to be the jerk proclaiming impending doom? Just to be able able to say “I told ya so” or “I saw that coming”. What a life?

Go Sasha go!! You got this and unlike anyone we’ve ever seen. Girls can do anything that guys can

Oh, I know a few people here (cough cough half of GS)

The girl that has dominated the sport for the past two seasons is not the most consistent skater right. Now that she is going to train in canada she probably is going to forget how to skate clean and be the most fierce comp lol. Orser wanted a champ and now he has one. Go ahead and bet against her i wont.

I wonder, what will happen if Evgenia go to Autumn classic (or other early competition) and Eteri send Alina there to take advantage over Evgenia (who will obviously be not in her best shape early in the season).

That's more like it. And I don't see why she couldn't. She jumps quads with jump height, not rotation speed. The rotation speed is only slightly faster than that of many senior skaters, like Miyahara, Medvedeva, Zagitova etc. and she still has some room to spare, at least judging by the last 4T video. Especially when she should gain even more height as she gains strength, I don't really see why she would struggle in a major manner, in the long term. And considering that Mirai at her age and with her body is able to rotate faster than Trusova does, I'm not sure why the rotation speed would be such an issue, either.

Don't underestimate what a change in training environment can cause. It's very possible that she will become inconsistent as a result, at least temporarily. And that might be all it takes.

That would only make sense if it's in Europe, but I don't see why Evgenia would travel to one in Europe. Jet lag can mess training up unnecessarily and I don't think a challenger would be worth the trouble.

Do you really think someone of their caliber would go to an early season comp? I don't, unless they just want to try out new programs. I hardly think Med and Zag would 'lower' themselves, honestly.

:scratch2:
Evgenia did Ondrej Nepala in 2015 and 2017 (this season)... Alina did Lombardia as well. Also Evgenia has been going to Japan Open for 2 years, and Alina went with her last time.
