2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Well, I don't think that's a problem. I think it'd only be fair if others don't stand a chance if they're jumping quads and the others aren't. They'd just be that much better than the others. To me, that's exactly how it should be... Artificial parity ruins competition.

I agree. It would be strange to limit athletes just so others can keep up.

Pretty sure they will do the same they did last year with JGPs.
Give all girls one and then give a second to those who have a JGPF chance.

I think they will too but that's a pretty terrible idea to me
I would like to see 7 girls get 2 each (that way if one girl messes up at her events there's still 6 to fill the final)
push out everyone else at the JGPF!!

Last year there were already 5/6 Russians at the jgp final.

It will be fun to see they transform the jgpf into a mini junior Russian nationals

What are your predictions for the jgpf?

Mine? Well if it's a full six, then I think it should be / would like to see:
Trusova, Kostornaya, Shcherbakova, Tarakanova, Tarusina, and Sinitsyna as the qualifiers (I like Sinitsyna more than Kanysheva and think her programs give her more personality but Kanysheva would be the first alternate in this case)

But you cannot know which 7 girls to send.
Imho, they have the best strategy - whoever gets a gold medal, gets a second JGP, and then the silver medalists depending on availability.

An all Russian podium consisting of Alexandra Trusova, Alena Kostornaya and Anna Sherbakova in which order it may be. It might be any really, that‘s what we can‘t tell right now because ice is slippery and quads are difficult and who knows what will happen. But I do believe that Trusova and Kostornaya will battle for the gold. Sasha with her quads (if she lands them she‘s the obvious winner) and Alena with her maturity, grace and let‘s not forget: hopefully a 3A. Anna might have a 4Lutz but she‘s been injured and consistency has never been her greatest strength. If she pulls off a surprise, that‘s nice, she could even beat Trusova. But if she stumbles in even one of the programs, it‘s over for her. (Unless both Sasha and Alena have a major meltdown which I don‘t believe will happen)

Kostyuk is soo much better than Kanysheva.

Kanysheva might be the most consistent one from Panova's group but her jumps are almost Satoko-like (fast rotation, no height) and her skating is just bland.

Oh I actually do prefer Kostyuk (go see her fanfest, it’s pretty lonely) but Kanysheva’s results seem to have put her above Kostyuk

Hopefully she’ll get her chance once Trusova, Kostornaya, Tarakanova, and Shcherbakova move up in 2019-2020

Kanysheva has the worst jumps of the three by far, that's for sure. To be honest, I'm not sure where her PCS comes from because to me, she's as bland as can be. Then again, so are all three of Panova's girls. Kostyuk has the best skating skills but her jump consistency isn't great. Sinitsyna's main thing is that her spins are very good, otherwise she, like all three, is quite dry as a performer. I would rank Kanysheva #3 of these if I had to. And Kostyuk first but ... Well, I'm not very high on any.

Okay, that was a really bad interview. What is she thinking? She was doing so well with PR...

Was this interview before or after Eteri airs dirty laundry. If after, them I think she has every right to feel betrayed that her coach relayed what was said behind closed doors to turn the public against her. If the interview was shortly after the OG then perhaps she had that feeling that she was not fully supported or the team did not have enough confidence in her. I have no idea... this does’t change how I perceive her at all.

She played it really cool in her parting statement, but now? :scard8:

I read casual Russian fans asking all over the internet "who is this girl? she was so nice before...". :slink:

Looking through the comments of that news article, at least 95% of them are negative to Medvedeva. Not very good for PR. Especially when combined with the earlier statements. It's almost like she's trying to burn bridges.

I honestly don't get why she'd be doing this.

I didn't get that that was the "betrayal" she was referring to. At least the people commenting on the article definitely don't feel that way.

I'm holding out that the whole "split" is a PR trick to generate heat and hopefully ratings... a half-baked attempt to recreate Yagudin vs Plushenko.

Evgenia needed to leave though. She needs a fresh set of eyes to mold her. And it's good for Eteri that Evgenia left so she can focus on juniors who are a better bet for the 2022 Olympics.

She also complained in a snarky way, that fans don't understand her new Ex. :rolleye:

To be honest it went through my mind as well. Hurting and unpleasant from human standpoint, but perfect 'business' for bringing all the attention to Russian ladies. :agree:

Plus recuperation of Orser's Tursynbaeva! Next season will be

Part of me is screaming, 'keep it classy Medvedeva, don't sink to someone else's level' and another part of me is screaming "spill it, Eteri has already struck the first public blow - you don't her loyalty anymore" plus the drama of the Russian ladies might hold us through the off-season

TBH what she is saying is not bad to Eteri. It does not change how people see Eteri - haters gonna hate, fans gonna fan.
But it is actually damages a lot the way russians see her. Because it is gradually going from "Zhenya is the true Olympic Champion" to "spoiled girl". Each new interview has less positive and more negative comments.

Wish someone would advise her on PR.

Why are you lying?I understand that you hate Evgenia, but that doesn't give you the right to change her words. She wrote that it was her mistake, that no one understood the Ex's message, and that she will continue to work.
Her words about betrayal may not be about Eteri. We have already made a mistake, thinking that her Ex about her relationship with Eteri. It is possible that she was talking about someone else. Zhenya's world does not end with Eteri. She communicated with other people for 18 years of her life.
