2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

By the way.. if we discussing EXs, i have to say that recent Medvedeva's EX (Cuckoo) is probably the worst i've ever seen. Her EX from Worlds 2017 was way better.

In my opinion, this is the best EX I’ve watched from her, my favorite. I could feel all the emotions she wanted to convey and it really fit in the context of her injury and fighting for what she wanted. For me, it was also a style that fitted her.

I am not sure...
The program she choreographed itself was literally screaming Averbukh, both in choreo and in music choice. I suppose that if she wanted something different, she could have easily gone for it.

The one with the feather pen / letter writing getting such good feedback is kind of puzzling to me. I thought that it had more miming than any of Averbukh's programs and to be honest, was very boring. It's my least favorite ex by her. Either my taste doesn't align with the masses or people are too excited with her coach change and projecting it into their opinions on her exhibitions. Yeah, her own choreo but it really wasn't great. I thought that the EX after Europeans was very good, as was the 2017 worlds one and these are probably my top two exhibitions by her.

Yes. I don't like it. Almost any of other her EXs was better. May be that's because i've watched the movie where it was more appropriate, idk.

There was another tinny Z-skater with the same music. Her costume was in army-green colour, maybe you'll enjoy it better. Unfortunately, I can't find a link :handw:

I was not excited with her new EX either, and also didnt get why people are so OMG MY GOD about it.
My guess is that people were more axcited about the coach change than the actual ex.

The European ex was indeed better, and probably one of her best galas (tbh most of her galas were kinda meh, compared to some other skaters, except maybe for the Euros ex and the Sailor Moon ex)

Personally I was excited about seeing her skate again after months of rest bc of the injury and about her trying to choreo herself :) you can't tell it's a first attempt, but I appreciate the passion that she put in it! I thought the Memory EX was much better and less mimey, it made me actually wish to see her skate to a powerful warhorse for a change, even though I've always appreciated her team's original choices of music a lot.

"Я сейчас на первом курсе, учусь на тренера."

So Zhenya is on her first year, studying to be a coach.
What will happen to her studies if she moved to Canada (because her plan is to stay there for 4 years or so, until next Olympics?

I am confused.

I am assuming she will do the same thing Yuzu does with his uni in Japan - correspondance courses? Many athletes actually do this, I assume if she's said she's continuing to study that there is this option for her

I can only speak for myself here, of course, but the Experience program (the one with the quill) is one of my all time favourite of hers because you can clearly see her emotions and her feelings while she skates, it was quite beautiful to watch. For me it told a story and even though I now know she intended it to be really a different one, for me, I‘ll always see her personal story in it, the way she fought that last season, her Olympic experience etc. It wasn‘t so much about being excited about coach changes, the EX has nothing do to with Orser, has it? She choreographed it on her own and for a first try that‘s pretty amazing, actually. I don‘t know, I just love it when you see so clearly that a skater feels what they skate. Or it could also be that I‘m a fan of theatre and therefor adore her miming. Maybe it‘s just that, I don‘t know.

But I agree, the Europeans EX was even better. I don‘t understand a single line of the lyrics but again you can see what she‘s feeling. She shows everything there, lets it all go, all the frustration of losing for the first time, having her winning streak stopped by Alina...

I‘d actually love to see her skate more to darker programs like this. They suit her well and it doesn‘t always have to be those quiet tunes. Way to go for something powerful!

And in the end that raised fist, screaming: "I will fight in Pyeongchang!". :clapper:
It was amazing to watch back then, unfortunately in couple of months we got to know the she'd wanted to win by any means possible... :slink:

Yep, that‘s her spirit! And she did fight bravely!

Honestly, I just can‘t wait for the season to start. They‘re killing us with anticipation. And another thing: Do you guys think that it will ever be possible again for Elena to go to any major events? I used to love her but now she‘s pretty much disappeared. I know she‘s jump issues and everything...

She hasn't disappeared. She just didn't make the team just like everybody else not named Zagitova, Sotskova, Medvedeva or Konstantinova. She just did the "Denis and Friends" show in Kazakhstan a few days ago (and was the only Russian single skater there!):

Regarding major events, lets hope she can make it! She's one of the very few who never bombed at competition, which can't be said even of Zagitova who fell 3 times in her last LP.

She pretty much bombed last nationals, doing so many mistakes that even with super generous pcs she barely made it to top 10...

She disappeared, didn’t she? Yes, I imagine that placing 3rd and 4th at GP events makes you invisible. You suddenly disappear! Unfortunately, the only one competition (and the most important one- the Russian nationals) she messed up and placed only 10th, and that’s why she is only on the reserve team and not on the main team, but saying that she disappeared, how dramatic this is! And you called yourself her fan, did you?

Well, considering the fact that in 2015 ago she won a Silver at Europeans and a bronze at Worlds and the season after that another Silver at Europeans, comparing it to now, yes, she has disappeared. From major competitions. Not making the team does mean exactly that.

At least she does some shows, that‘s great to hear. What do her jumps look like? Well, her major problem was never her nerves, it was her growing so tall in such a short amount of time. And her programs which never seemed to do her any justice. I remember that Titanic program... And if I recall correctly, she didn‘t do very well at Nationals, did she?

she?

@hanca: Wow  Yes, I am her fan. And no, a bronze medal isn‘t bad, I never said that. But yet, a few years ago people talked of her as if she was going to be the Olympic Champion. I‘m just worried about her because she has had growth issues and we all know pretty well how fast you get ruled out in Russia. I was just asking from those who might have seen her at shows how her jumps look like, whether she can get back to her old form or not. Because, yes, I really wish for her to do that. But I just don‘t know whether it will be possible. And just saying, in any other country placing 3rd and 4th at the GP wouldn‘t be bad. But in Russia with so many new young skaters turning up every year? Maybe disappeared was the wrong word. I just remember that a few years ago she battled with Zhenya for Golds so to me it seemed like that. Sorry if it offended anyone...

There are many Elena news and photos on VK - vacations, then Denis Ten's show. Girl is busy skating.
