2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I want to post it here, too.

I don't understand why people act like Elena Radionova is in a very low level, she is in the same level with Polina and Maria. But Elena was a bit unlucky last season, her GP events were the hardest ones. Maria won two silver medals at GP because last season SC was like a JGP. Then she qualified to GPF with only one good performance (I don't think that it was so much better than Elena at CoC or Polina at NHK)
And the fed decided to send her to the Europeans, Olympics and worlds. But she disappointed us. I actually think that Elena or Polina would perform better than her. Now let's look at the scores:

Maria(SC): 192.52 2nd
Maria(IDF): 208.78 2nd
Polina(SA): 195.56 4th
Polina(NHK): 213.19 3th
Elena(CoR): 195.52 4th
Elena (CoC): 206.82 3th

You can see, Maria took a silver medal with 192 points, which caused her to qualify for GPF. But Elena and Polina got fourth place with 195 points
Also, Elena took the gold medal at Shanghai Trophy while Maria takes bronze.

One thing I'll certainly disagree with the majority on regarding Kostornaya is her musicality. I really don't think she has a whole lot of feel for the music and honestly, no matter how many times I've watched it I've still not really found it. She has some beautiful positions, excellent skating skills, transitions and all, but musicality? I just don't see it. Well, that's in line with what she herself has said(That she doesn't feel the music) so I really don't know why she would now have such incredible musicality according to so many people ...

In my opinion, Kostornaya's CO actually was pretty weak last season. Especially for the SP, I'd have Trusova over her handily in that category, just like in IN. Trusova's FS really didn't work for me so that's a different story, but to regard Kostornaya as some 80 PCS never-before-seen artistic talent, I really can't agree with that...

Because Elena has problems on her jumps. Severe problems. Her jumps have never been the best, the landings were always quite scratchy, it was her ability to perform, her love and enthusiasm on the ice that got me. But technically, she just cannot compete with the top skaters at the moment. At least jumps wise, her spins are gorgeous. And to my mind, not even with Polina. Maria? Maybe. Polina has excellent jumps when she lands them, they are huge and incredibly smooth. I don‘t like Maria‘s jumps all that much and I‘d say she‘s quite prone to UR and I don‘t enjoy her tanos at all. I don‘t think Elena is all that bad, she just had bad luck that Maria was pushed last season to go the Olympics. I think Elena and Maria would have had quite similar results at the competitions Maria entered, like Worlds, Europeans and Olympics. Polina however, is a bit better than both of them to my mind, though. She has fine artistry, is graceful and even though she tends to pop jumps, they are gorgeous when she lands them.

Yes, i think Polina is a bit better than Maria and Elena, but her landings are not that clean, her foot bounces on ice when she lands and a bit messy if you watch carefully. Also her spins are not perfect. She has textbook and huge jumps i can't say anything about that, and i think Polina's and Maria's main problem is; they are too tall.

Yeah, a lot of people think of musicality in terms of baletic long lines, gracefull positions and extensions..and only in those terms... I agree with you Trusova is equally musical, she just skated with different style

People make mistakes at one or another. So you can’t really say, for example, that Zagitova was underscored at nationals because she made mistakes there and not at the Olympics

Exactly. Zagitova wasn‘t clean at Nationals and Sotskova had one of her cleanest skates ever there, compared to the Olympics. So of course that would reflect in their scores as well.

For all partial deviations, large arrays of digits have their own analytical algorithm. This is the science of mathematics... These columns of numbers are not about personal errors.

What ?

If you compare two performaces from two different events, you really can't state if one or another is over/underscored seeing only the points as a whole.

I recomend ignoring - read, but not respond.

This thread has become really weird.

It isn't always harmonious here, but at least I used to understand what people were saying.
Anyway, does Katya have a fanfest yet?

After the analysis, proceed to the synthesis. At first it will not be easy.

I don‘t think so but as we were so kindly reminded, Katya has always been a modest and responsible girl, so we should probably make one. ;)

Where and when did she say that, and especially in which context? I'd imagine she didn't just sit there and basically say "Btw, I have no musicality, no idea what a feel for music is".

I would say the 3 (+Tuktik) are around same level, but Maria seems to have the most of the fed support so far (see scoring at rusnats)

I've come to the conclusion that there's two things that need to happen, but aren't:

1. Russia needs to host a JGP (preferably one of the ones with pairs). This allows them a third ladies' spot, and for them, each spot is important. This year, it would have meant that Gulyakova could have had a second event, or Vasilieva could've had one. Added bonus: if they host one with pairs, they get unlimited pairs spots.

2. There needs to be 4 flights of ladies at nationals. This year, there will be talented skaters who won't make nationals. If everyone assigned to GPs skates there and doesn't need to pull out of nationals, that's already half of the entries. The JGPF will most likely have 5-6 Russian entries and that leaves just 3-4 entries for Russian Cup skaters. Russia has the most talent in ladies out of any country, and they have the smallest nationals out of the big federations. Last year's last place participant at Russian Nationals scored 160.78, versus the US Nationals' last place participant scored just 104.43 points. If someone who scores like that is allowed to skate at US Nationals, then Russia should open up one more flight. Otherwise, skaters who are talented enough to be on the GP if they represented any other country, won't even make their own nationals. How messed up is that?
