I don’t get it either. Its very common here in the US that even if you move to somewhere like Colorado you’d represent your club in Michigan at sectionals/regionals and beyond. I’m sure it has to do with Nationals qualifications and competing in the most logical area to advance the furthest but the point is that it is very common here.

I bet in Zhenya's case that in addition to any money that gets allotted to help her train abroad some of it gets directed back to Sambo to cover some travel and other costs associated with being a member. This way I bet when she wins some of the earnings likely goes to the club. It’s probably a win win for everyone involved honestly.

Does she need to represent a local club for nationals and domestic events like Cup of Russia?

They are not for sell - the newest uniform. After Oly Zhenya was never inside the Crystal complex. In order not to meet with coaches and athletes she refused to use the ice in Sambo 70. Where she could take the cardigan in the right size and from whom? As i said Jenny is very smart and mature.

First, I said: "fully represent" (оf course, I'm not saying that Zhenya not Russian now).

Second, FS it's not a hockey, tennis and other waving hands and feet. This art with a large part of the sports component. And when skater becomes the voice of another culture and environment, i dunno... For example, I like that Italians on OG always skated with Italian music, songs with Italian language.
(edit: I do not want to say that you always must take the songs in your native language, but I see the attitude of the Italians to themselves and to their great culture and I like it)

As well other then her AK she's only had one 'Russian' program. Last year she had her FS which was based around 9/11 which happened in America and the river flows in you by a South Korean pianist, the year before that her free skate used music from a british movie with the music composed by a polish composer though the music in her short program was by a soviet composer. Additionally her short program music was by Chopin a french composer and January Stars contained music mostly composed by american composers.

As a result we can see that Zhenya even in Russia and with a Russian choreographer wasn't doing many 'russian' programs so I don't really know what you are seeing but I hope that at least one of her programs will be at least Russian in theme because that may do her a lot of good in winning back her fans who don't view her as being properly Russian anymore even though I don't think that should be strictly necessary.

As far as I know, in Russia skaters represent their region, like Moscow, St. Petersburg, e.t.c at domestic events, a club is usually not mentioned.
However, each skater must be affiliated with some organization - member of Russian Skating Fed, or he/she will not have the right to participate in any competitions. The majority of such organizations are state budget-funded sport schools, and athletes are like students there. I heard that some athletes are employed as instructors, so rich clubs can pay them a salary. Monsters like CSKA or Sambo-70 are not mere schools, but in fact pretty much autonomic organizations under the federal management (CSKA) and Moscow Government (Sambo). They have huge infrastructure, many branches, long history, their own traditions and symbols. A bit similar to some university communities, I think. So it is quite a big deal to represent such a club.

Since all these organizations get funds from state budget, and those funds are not distributed equally, it is very important to show results. The more successful students they have, the better is funding. So no wonder that Sambo president let Zhenya stay with Sambo - it is both for reputation and money. And Zhenya has to be a part of some Russian sports organization to represent Russia and get funding as a national team member. Win-win situation indeed.

Daria Panenkova and Sofia Samodurova will both be in the Senior Grand Prix. Daria has two spots, and I think Sofia might get the Russian host spot if she does well in her first assignment.

I guess (but don't know for sure) that Anastasia Gubanova might stay junior, since she has no senior GP spots.
Many of the more famous juniors will stay junior because they are not old enough to turn senior.

Yes, for national events and financing purposes you have to represent a Russian club. And skaters who have moved to e.g. St. Petersburg also continue representing their home region, i.e. have dual representation, although in this case afaik no money goes to their home region, it's just a formality.

What is meant by a Russian-themed program? If she takes Swan Lake, will she win back lost Russian fans? If she skates to Korobushka like Krasnozhon it is more likely to lead to a lot of facepalming. She could always take Kalinka as an EX like Sotskova did I suppose.

I just mean for at least one of her programs using either music by a russian/soviet composer or music associated to a russian story like her AK. I wouldn't want her to do Swan Lake as Zagi did it last year and it is a warhorse and I can't stand Kalinka after hearing it in so many russian gymnastics floor routines especially when it comes to juniors. It might be a futile gesture but I feel like it would at least cultivate some goodwill.

She might have depicted Anna Karenina, but that music was from a foreign film. So not good enough, I say:dev2: And honestly, the classics are part of world culture now. If you take something specific like Kukushka or Let's Pray for Parents (Aliev's EX), there is always a danger that foreign audiences will have no clue what's up and won't connect. And Korobushka is so cheesy Krasnozhon could only get away with it because he was a Junior (and doesn't represent Russia). I suppose you could think hard and come up with something Russian-but-not-too-narrowly-so like Dr. Zhivago (there is even a British film).

hmm I'm not sure because I don't know Russian music that that well other then the very basic options i.e. Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich I just thought it would be quite a nice gesture towards the russian audience that have supported her to show that regardless of where she trains she is still very much Russian and skating for russia. However, for me as long as her music is well though out to suit her and Zhenya likes it and her programs are nice and original I personally don't mind what music she chooses :shrug:

To be honest, "Evgenia should at least have a Russian-themed program" is the one thing I have not heard from Russian fans on Russian forums. Nobody seems to particularly care either way.

I'm sorry if I offended you I just thought it would be a nice gesture as some people had misgivings about her having foreign choreography, foreign training and foreign music and I thought it would be a nice symbol personally even if it is just a realtively niche russian composer. It was never my intention to do so and as a result I'll drop this topic as I don't see the point.
 
Broadway evergreen masterpiece songs would fit very much to Evgenia. Let's leave Russian classics to unmodern skaters like Patrick Chan and Kaetlyn Osmond. They're better at it.
