2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

2014-2015. She became junior eligible in 2016-2017.

Well, she might have been known earlier(Like Gubanova was known since 8yo?) but that's when she became "famous".

Looking back, well she had a 186.07 point event just after turning 12. But other than that one event, it's actually nothing all that crazy.
No, Nugumanova was already known 2013-14. She was fourth at Russian novice nationals. Even though she placed ‘only’ fourth, she was only two points away from Gubanova. So that’s two years before being junior eligible.

It just goes to show how strong Russian ladies' skating is that these two, who haven't really regressed since being in novices, are left behind even though they have 7-triple programs (although Nugumanova never skates cleanly and has a huge UR problem). It's kind of sad :sad21:

Gubanova is STILL quite competitive. Yes she has no 3A or quads, but she can do +3Lo combos, has no F/Lz edge issues despite hammertoe, does not regularly UR, consistent, can backload maximally according to new ISU rules, and therefore is technically non-inferior to any current senior skaters minus Elizaveta Tuktamysheva.

People seem to ignore how consistent she was last season for reasons I can’t explain. Who knows what her future holds but she’s proven herself to me. Stepping into senior Russian Nationals and skating two clean programs these last few years is a very impressive feat that only a handful of people can say they did. There were a couple skaters placed ahead of her who certainly can’t say it ;)

All she needs is some love from her own fed.

Honestly the podium of 2018 Russian Nationals should have been Alina, Alena and Nastya. Masha had low BV, mistake in FS and multiple URs here and there. Stasya and Polya bombed on 3F and 3Lz respectively. Stasya had a series of URs and edge problem overlooked by the panel.

Unfortunately with all the politicking in Olympic season, the results were severely biased towards skaters who were potential candidates of the PC trip.

Glad to see the love for Gubanova here. She is so underrated. I enjoy watching her the most out of all the russian ladies (along with Alena). She's the only female skater who has ever made me like a Romeo & Juliet program

I know it‘s probably too much of a stretch but I’d really love to see Zhenya and Sima on the same podium again, just like in junior days. They were my favourite duo. :(

I love Gubanova too. Im torn about whot to give the host pick for Rostelecom Cup but I guess a "spread the wealth" policy is better in this case so hopefully she gets it.

So far, i think ill be happy just to see Sima compete.

Yeah, that‘s why I said it‘s a stretch. Just got a bit nostalgic here. But it‘s just that I feel so bad for Sima. Like, how tough must it be to battle for the gold medal in juniors with your best friend and then as you both turn senior the other one goes on to become world champion, european champion, olympic silver medalist and so on while you continue to struggle and might not even make nationals? If she really manages to get back to competing... well, I can‘t even start to express how much I‘d admire that. I know for every champion and gold medal winner there are a dozen who give up on the way but still... that‘s probably the most disheartening about being a fan, seeing those you used to love and still do struggle so much.

Gubanova ? The reason is this: http://www.isuresults.com/events/cat03108167.htm

She has thrown away most of her season with that result. The Fed was wrong to choose to push Konstantinova over her for JWR, but who knows would have happened if Gubanova not have miss to gain the second JGP assignments and so the final.

Lol but this has shown that the fed doesn't care about past international showing

Therefore your argument does not stand. Same gies for Tarakanova. Current JGP bronze seem to mean nothing to the Fed.
And I definitely would not consider this as poor international results.

its pretty clear that nationals are main criteria for fed.
also, they have so many ladies that they dont really bother about past achievements or whatever.
