I don't think anyone could make Elena a top skater again...sorry, just don't see it happening. She had too many issues even before she went to Buyanova.

Zagitova, Trusova, Scherbakova, Kostornaya - may be it's the core she wants to focus on? Plus Lizbet who is the challenge of her own. But at this moment her success should be the matter of pride for Eteri.
It's true that politics play a role in Russian FS more than they do in other countries perhaps, but I doubt that Medvedeva, Tsurskaya, Tarakanova and Panenkova all moved because of politics. They probably each had their own reason for it, in my opinion, and each chose the coach that suited their needs better.
I mean if it must be CSKA— why not Davydov? But I don't think CSKA is a good destination considering all the recent competition there. Someone like Panova would make sense... And she's 10 times the coach that Buianova is.
For me, many skaters moving to Buianova is kinda suspicious, considering that:
1. the government support to coaches depends on their student's performances
2. coaches get part of the prize money
3. Buianova is very supported by fed
And for skaters, there is no major benefit, unless there are offers like: "ohh youre not in the main team? move here and we will get you in the team", "you never getting that #3 spot to worlds with Eteri, but if you move you have a chance". There is no reason to move from Eteri to Buianova, except for the extra fed support.
Eteri is not good at coaching older girls? Its not like Buianova has many older ladies either. Adelina was pretty much done after the Olympics. Proklova never made past juniors. Sotskova still URs and honestly, last season she made the team basically because she was Buianova's #1, see her FS at nationals.
Eteri's team too crowded? Its not like Buianova has just Sotskova either, she has quite a few students. Also, during last season, it was kinda noticeable that she focused on getting Sotskova to Olympics. Not sure if Radionova is just a lose cause or Buianova pretty much neglected her focusing on Masha.
and so on
Now, there were also a few not cool episodes involving Buianova. For example, there were quite a few insider rumors back when Kovtun left Buianova about her rivalty with Goncharenko, and how all the specialists who had worked with him before have refused to work with him once he changed coaches (even though its literally same club), and how Goncharenko was not getting enough ice time due to politiking and so on.
Last but not least, Buianova is known to dislike Eteri.
For me, those are the reasons to suspect Buianova is poaching.
This is what I was thinking. Even though Eteri only has 1 senior medal contender (2 if she can work a miracle with Lil Bet), I don't think that's a bad thing. Assuming Alina is back on form she'll win or at least medal at every event next season. Plus it's better for Alina as she'll get the majority of the attention and won't have to split her time between 3 or 4 other senior skaters.
Aside from Alina, I would think Eteri wants to focus on her 3 phenoms on the junior level (Trusova, Kostornaia & Shcherbakova). All three are senior eligible in 2019-2020 and have the potential to dramatically change women's skating as we know it if they can make it to the senior level with their quads and 3As intact.
It does seem like skaters are flocking from Eteri at the moment but I don't think it's such a bad thing for her...unless it turns out that there is bad reason so many are leaving. Panenkova is a talented skater who can definitely stand out at CSKA if she skates well.
Next season is going to be interesting...that's for sure.
People here always seem to ignore the fact that Eteri also coaches men...she has Erokhov turning senior, Artem Frolov, Moris, Daniil Samsonov, etc. She has more than enough students left who deserve attention.
I can only roll my eyes at the "poaching" conspiracists...good grief. Nothing could ever be (even partially) the fault of St. Eteri, can it? It hasn't even been confirmed that Dasha joined Buyanova's group.
I'm curious about Kostornaya... any news about her? i think she'll be the next to leave Eteri (just a feeling).
I think Kostornaia will definitely leave Eteri if she doesn’t make the junior worlds team if the fed don’t want to send two Eteri girls and with the new GOE rules her triple axel won’t put her at that much of an advantage so the fed wanted to overlook her they could. However my personal prediction for the future is that Dudakova and Daniil will leave with Zagi, Scherbie and possibly Trusova

Or maybe they left not because of Eteri but because of other reasons you don’t know.I was wondering about the other coaches there too. It seems if all these girls are leaving because of Eteri, not sure if this is true, but then those coaches also may want to separate themselves. From what I see, Dudakov is a huge part of the training but his name doesn’t come up as much as Eteri’s. And from what I see with Daniil, he seems very close with Anna and Alina especially and if they ever left, I wonder if he would follow? He seems very kind and loving and the girls seem to take to him very well. I wonder if somewhere down the line, they will eventually break off from Eteri’s group?

that's what off season does to you. Or maybe they left not because of Eteri but because of other reasons you don’t know.
if so many skaters can leave their coachs ... why not PogoPerhaps, but for that you have to pay with their health.I may be wrong, but in my opinion Eteri team is the most hard but shortest and ensured way to success. Those who don't feel themselves strong enough to keep moving on this path go away.
According to her latest statements, she can't see her success without Eteri.I'm curious about Kostornaya... any news about her? i think she'll be the next to leave Eteri (just a feeling).
