2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I don't think anyone could make Elena a top skater again...sorry, just don't see it happening. She had too many issues even before she went to Buyanova.

Zagitova, Trusova, Scherbakova, Kostornaya - may be it's the core she wants to focus on? Plus Lizbet who is the challenge of her own. But at this moment her success should be the matter of pride for Eteri.

This is what I was thinking. Even though Eteri only has 1 senior medal contender (2 if she can work a miracle with Lil Bet), I don't think that's a bad thing. Assuming Alina is back on form she'll win or at least medal at every event next season. Plus it's better for Alina as she'll get the majority of the attention and won't have to split her time between 3 or 4 other senior skaters.

Aside from Alina, I would think Eteri wants to focus on her 3 phenoms on the junior level (Trusova, Kostornaia & Shcherbakova). All three are senior eligible in 2019-2020 and have the potential to dramatically change women's skating as we know it if they can make it to the senior level with their quads and 3As intact.

It does seem like skaters are flocking from Eteri at the moment but I don't think it's such a bad thing for her...unless it turns out that there is bad reason so many are leaving. Panenkova is a talented skater who can definitely stand out at CSKA if she skates well.

Next season is going to be interesting...that's for sure.

It's true that politics play a role in Russian FS more than they do in other countries perhaps, but I doubt that Medvedeva, Tsurskaya, Tarakanova and Panenkova all moved because of politics. They probably each had their own reason for it, in my opinion, and each chose the coach that suited their needs better.

For me, many skaters moving to Buianova is kinda suspicious, considering that:
1. the government support to coaches depends on their student's performances
2. coaches get part of the prize money
3. Buianova is very supported by fed

And for skaters, there is no major benefit, unless there are offers like: "ohh youre not in the main team? move here and we will get you in the team", "you never getting that #3 spot to worlds with Eteri, but if you move you have a chance". There is no reason to move from Eteri to Buianova, except for the extra fed support.

Eteri is not good at coaching older girls? Its not like Buianova has many older ladies either. Adelina was pretty much done after the Olympics. Proklova never made past juniors. Sotskova still URs and honestly, last season she made the team basically because she was Buianova's #1, see her FS at nationals.
Eteri's team too crowded? Its not like Buianova has just Sotskova either, she has quite a few students. Also, during last season, it was kinda noticeable that she focused on getting Sotskova to Olympics. Not sure if Radionova is just a lose cause or Buianova pretty much neglected her focusing on Masha.
and so on

Now, there were also a few not cool episodes involving Buianova. For example, there were quite a few insider rumors back when Kovtun left Buianova about her rivalty with Goncharenko, and how all the specialists who had worked with him before have refused to work with him once he changed coaches (even though its literally same club), and how Goncharenko was not getting enough ice time due to politiking and so on.

Last but not least, Buianova is known to dislike Eteri.

For me, those are the reasons to suspect Buianova is poaching.

I'm curious about Kostornaya... any news about her? i think she'll be the next to leave Eteri (just a feeling).

But I don't think CSKA is a good destination considering all the recent competition there. Someone like Panova would make sense... And she's 10 times the coach that Buianova is.
I mean if it must be CSKA— why not Davydov?

This would not surprise me at all...

People here always seem to ignore the fact that Eteri also coaches men...she has Erokhov turning senior, Artem Frolov, Moris, Daniil Samsonov, etc. She has more than enough students left who deserve attention.

I can only roll my eyes at the "poaching" conspiracists...good grief. Nothing could ever be (even partially) the fault of St. Eteri, can it? It hasn't even been confirmed that Dasha joined Buyanova's group.

Buianova's poaching is a separate issue, and unrelated to Eteri. Honestly, its not even a consipracy considering the number of episodes. Like when Radionova was a thing, it was pretty persistent rumor that Buianova was trying to get her to train with her.

I'm curious about Kostornaya... any news about her? i think she'll be the next to leave Eteri (just a feeling).

I think Kostornaia will definitely leave Eteri if she doesn’t make the junior worlds team if the fed don’t want to send two Eteri girls and with the new GOE rules her triple axel won’t put her at that much of an advantage so the fed wanted to overlook her they could. However my personal prediction for the future is that Dudakova and Daniil will leave with Zagi, Scherbie and possibly Trusova

Out of the students that left Eteri only 2 went to Buianova, so I don't think it's because of her that people are leaving Eteri. It's just more likely that they wanted to change and that's it, for whatever individual reason. Eteri is good but she doesn't work for everyone, just like any other coach.

Interesting... Leave and go where? :))) They are not stupid... they know that Eteri is the brain and the brand there. And Dudakov doesn't seem the revolutionary type of guy. Daniil is still very young and new on the market. Of course, we don't know what can happen in 5-10 years.....

I was wondering about the other coaches there too. It seems if all these girls are leaving because of Eteri, not sure if this is true, but then those coaches also may want to separate themselves. From what I see, Dudakov is a huge part of the training but his name doesn’t come up as much as Eteri’s. And from what I see with Daniil, he seems very close with Anna and Alina especially and if they ever left, I wonder if he would follow? He seems very kind and loving and the girls seem to take to him very well. I wonder if somewhere down the line, they will eventually break off from Eteri’s group?

Or maybe they left not because of Eteri but because of other reasons you don’t know.

It seems to me that Dudakov is the type of person that doesn't want to be in the spotlight and I doubt that Daniil will follow Alina or Anna, and I doubt this would be even possible.

I may be wrong, but in my opinion Eteri team is the most hard but shortest and ensured way to success. Those who don't feel themselves strong enough to keep moving on this path go away.

We are going really far with the predictions over here :laugh2: that's what off season does to you.
I do not know how i feel about Alina being Eteri's main focus now. I love Alina so much and i want her to do well so bad, i'm scared her being Eteri's probably only hope to bring medals home is gonna put her under too much pressure. I do not want the situation at worlds to happen to her ever again. Unless Eteri is really jesus in disguise and she miraculously brings back Lilbet's quads by next season :roll9:

Or maybe they left not because of Eteri but because of other reasons you don’t know.

Yes, it's very possible... Evgenia, we know why she left. Polina probably mainly because Evgenia left and her friendship with Maria. Tarakanova I assume it was something related to health, or at least health played a big role in the decision.
Darya seems nostalgic in the last posts on Instagram (she posted pictures from Sambo and with her former programs). I suppose that someone who is furious and wants to break up with her former coaches and all her former training life would react different.

If she had left eteri previously to medvedeva, tsurskaya and Tarakanova ... I would't be surprise ... she is very good skater but in the junior circuit she was like the one who had the worst programs ... the one that they didn't polish or care ... now I think is maybe a mistake because she would be the number 2 in the senior group ... or maybe is she looking ahead ... and seeing that 2019-2020 will be thought and is better leave know....

And I don't think Eteri will be affect by these ... she is creating the next ladies olympic champion ... I think she always thinking about the future and not the present .... i think who will suffer most will be alina that now she can't miss ...

Good coach for her: Plushenko ... I think she needs someone who make her a priority ...she have good jumps and I think the puberty will be soft in her ( because she already looks like a women) .... he doesn't have any top skatter in the GP circuit ... so everyone will be focusing on her .... Buyanova too many female skaters ...

P.S. :bang: if so many skaters can leave their coachs ... why not Pogo
