2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Hi folks,

Just a reminder

As we kick off with the JGP, please refrain from using the "State of (national)" and Fan Fest threads to discuss competitions. As always, keep competition chat in the Competition forums.

Should we find that folks are discussing competition info in these threads, they will be closed until after the competition.

Thanks!

"As always" - I can't recall any time when people haven't been able to talk about a skater's good performance in their fan fest for instance, or in this thread for that matter. In fact, I recall the competition discussion has almost always happened in this very thread after Russian ladies' performances, whereas the comp thread's always been for commentary on the skates as they happen. In fact, discussing their performances there will 1. make the posts very difficult to find and reply to and 2. be at odds with the actual live commenary.

Indeed, if this is a rule change caused by the competition forums becoming subscription-based, that's understandable. But "as always" isn't accurate here.

Are domestic competitions, such as the one that just took place, that are too small for threads, allowed to still be posted about here?

This thread can be quite messy at times too tho :noshake: but yeah competitions threads are often A HUGE MESS! anyway i already have a season pass, if it's too ugly there i'll be screaming by myself on twitter

Am I allowed to say that I don‘t find this right? I mean, sure, I understand the competition threads are primarily for talking about competitions but honestly, what if we only want to talk about performances of the Russian skaters? That‘s what this forum is there for. The competition thread is for generally talking about the skaters but there are discussions about Japanese, Korean, American etc. skaters, too. I, myself, am only interested in the Russian junior skaters and maybe the Japanese. So, I was planning to discuss them in their respective country‘s thread as I usually do ? So, I‘m also not allowed to talk about how a skater does or when he/she will be scheduled to skate in their own fanfest ?? People always talk in fan fest about their favourite skater‘s performance and cheer them on there. That‘s what a fan fest is about, right? To be a fan, discuss one skater only, cheer them on during competitions, discuss their results. I can‘t imagine people not talking in Hanyu‘s/Medvedeva‘s/Zagitova‘s/etc fanfest during Worlds or Europeans about their performances. How is this supposed to happen? I‘m not being sarcastic, I‘m really genuinely confused.

I‘m sorry for uttering this criticism and I realise that I might get my first infraction for it but I’m willing to risk it as I do not understand this at the moment. Forbidding users to talk about competitions and threatening to close the threads just because they didn‘t pay for competition threads? I know a big site like this might need the users to support them with small fees to make it run as smoothly as it does. That‘s understandable and okay. I‘m actually still thinking about buying a seasons pass. But to openly restrict the users from discussing? I don‘t understand that. I‘m very sorry. :/

(And I‘m still scared now after saying that....even though I did try to be as respectful as I could. )

Just to clarify, we are simply asking that posters don't use these threads as a replacement for competition threads.

You can discuss a skater's performance and the overall results of a skater. Comment's like this are ok: "So-and-so got the bronze -- yay!" or "Trusova makes history with the first quad combo in competition" in the Edge. If someone wants to put that so-and-so landed a triple Axel in the respective FF, that is no problem.

However, there are folks who will inevitably try to use the national threads as a replacement for the competition threads, and that is what we want to avoid.

The pleasure of the competition threads is the feeling of sitting around the sports bar with your buddies all watching the action together and discussing play-by-plays and elements in depth.. Many people are actually watching on various platforms and like to make comments such as, "Did you see that? She fell on her triple flip in the warm-up?" Or, "What kind of a silly costume is that?"

Thanks for deleting my earlier post, even though there was nothing to be deleted. Really smart moderators around here, congrats for your clever thinking.

But anyways, good luck trying to control the above.

Again, honestly just get your funding sorted and bring it back to how it used to be.

Your post was not deleted. It was moved to the appropriate thread in the Announcement and Feedback folder.

There is nothing wrong with asking questions :) You will find the answers in the Announcement/Feedback forum here, but I also followed up with this:

So where exactly do I have to comment on the competitions, when I don‘t have access to the junior Grand Prix thread, because I‘m not buying a gs pass?
