2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I doubt it. We haven’t seen her do it on ice yet, and it’s only been a few weeks since test skates where she was doing a 2A. Also, junior ladies can’t do 3A in the SP.

Yes, Trusova did one (on the floor) as well at test skates. It doesn't mean that she will do it on ice. Just a part of training warm up so far. Of course, it shows the potential for both of them.

Maybe that question can be answered in a separate thread...unless all 10 are Russian ladies.

Sure. I'd love to see, actually, how many names BillNeal can come up with. Maybe he can start the thread himself. Of course, if he feels like it, he can keep it here, and discuss how the Russian Ladies' technique stacks up against these 10 people. I'd love to read an analysis from such a fervent advocate. For a more exclusive challenge, maybe he can name 10 ladies instead! Would be even more valuable, given his constructive, objective, unbiased approach.

what's the problem in producing comfortable skates which doesn't damage skater's foot? i don't get it
why every season it's the same old over and over again, there is always skaters who have problems with their skates.. we live in 2018 and with all the technology, humanity still can't produce decent skates?

Welcome back I thought you will miss the season :).

Humanity didn't manage to solve more significant problems with technology you expect it to solve boots problems? . I don't know every foot has it's own anatomy/morphology. If her's does't fit the average anatomy that people have and boots are designed, then why not to have problems? But the truth is in that case she would have been aware of it and should tried to fix it eralier to be ready for the season.

Re :Boots

I’m not sure how many in here skate but I can attest from personal experience to the fact that some injuries can make just putting your skates on excruciating. Boots break at bad times and if serious blisters are present it can seriously complicate that process. The real problem is that feet weren’t designed for figure skating and no knifeboot can change that fact :) I don’t know the details of Anastasiia’s situation so I can not comment on it but..........I hope this isn’t a sign of regression in camp Buianova as some had predicted may happen.

I hope she can get herself sorted out soon. Her finish at Russian Nationals last season alone shows that she has a place in Russian skating.

I only skated recreationally as a kid but competed competitively in a different sport. Blisters can be EXTREMELY painful but that would not have been a reason not to train. And of course they bleed. Honestly the bleeding blisters weren’t as bad as the ones that were super deep.

But you deal with them. You bandage them significantly. Maybe train for short periods in your new shoes or wear the new ones around when not training and go back to your old shoes to train until the new ones were broken in. But you’d be ready for this possibility and know how to deal with it. It shouldn’t be affecting you for more than a couple weeks. If the shoes aren’t better by 2 weeks you get new ones and repeat the process. So a month at most. But you still train during this time. You bandage your feet and even put in pads to protect your feet until they heal. And it’s still going to be painful but it shouldn’t prevent you from training.

Why couldn’t she do test skates in old boots? I agree that something else is up. If her blisters were so significant that she couldn’t skate, why not say she is injured? I can’t imagine an Eteri girl not training or competing because she has blisters.

Right? If they'll train and compete with a stress-fractured landing foot, they'll train and compete with blisters. :2thumbs:

I once knew a skater who had to take an entire month off of the ice because her blisters we’re so bad and becoming infected . I don’t know anything about Anastasia’s condition so I can’t comment but competing on a stress fracture is a recipe for disaster. No competition is worth possibly shortening your career. Polina Edmonds never got back to top form after doing just that. She’s basically retired now.

My god Gubanova :( those aren't the news i was hoping to hear about her! Is it really serious? is there still a chance for her to be ready on time for senior circuit? this is bad.

I think Buianova said they are trying to get a spot at the later events

If it is at the cost of Sinitsyna's spots, I will be furious. Sure, Gubanova had boot problems and blisters and that's awful, but it will naturally affect her training. Sinitsyna is more prepared, has higher tech content, and has no other option. She deserves it more, imo.

Buyanova was speaking only about JGP. Nothing about trying senior competitions. :hopelessness:

It's weird to watch this with the new rules - I have no idea if Tarusina's 67 for debute clean skate is good or medium score. :scratch2:

According to the old rules it would be great int'l debute.

I had the same thought! Totally lost in the scores for now.

I really hope it is still considered a great score! She is a beautiful skater and really impressed me  Plus gorgoeus dress!

Well, we have had some great technical threads along those lines in the past. It would be great to do this again.

A few of us with good IT skills created slow motion clips from multiple jumps by a diversity of skaters.

And they they have been very helpful in seeing what's going on with both men and women.

For example, "Who actually has a 'right edge' or 'clear edge' lutz?" was a thread 18 months ago or so.

It was about the time edge calls were beginning to be a constant phenomenon. And it's true that at that point there weren't many clear edge lutzes from either gender.

Interestingly, one of the top men, who we could see had an iffy edge, cleaned up his lutz technique over the following season.
