Her NHK FS performance last season was a bit painful to watch as a viewer. Must have been very painful for her to skate with a broken foot. Glad that she made the decision in the best interest of possibly having a long-term skating career and is now training with Orser, a coach who has an excellent track record of leading senior skaters to long-term success.
Her NHK performance was really painful to watch, I agree. And commentators kept wondering whether she was worried because of how good Tsurskaya is and that‘s why she made so many mistakes. As if.
But honestly, it‘s not like Orser doesn‘t have skaters with injuries. Yuzuru even was injured in the Olympics season! I‘m also happy that she‘s with Orser now but it’s not like being with him is a guarantee to success. For some skaters, his approach works, for some it doesn‘t. Tursynbaeva was with him for a long time and it didn‘t exactly help her. Evgenia is used to constantly rivaling, constantly seeing other skaters perform difficult elements, trying to be better. It’s been like this in training all her life. With Orser... it‘s a completely different approach. It‘s yet to be seen how it works for her. Personally, I think she has the right work ethics, the discipline and the maturity to benefit from training like this. But we simply don‘t know yet.
About Zagitova: GPF, Europeans, Olympics. Worlds is the only thing she didn‘t win this season. Any other skater with a record like this, this season? No? Well, then it‘s pointless. In this universe she won the most this season. Not in an alternate one. But I guess it‘s true she didn‘t win everything. Worlds were awful and I‘m sure Alina did care about them. It wasn’t a good end to a great season. So....
About Tsurskaya: She never seemed to be one to benefit from Eteri‘s approach. Like with Orser, some skaters are suited for this type of training, others are not. Polina obviously wasn‘t. I‘m happy that she‘s in a place where she doesn‘t feel constant competition but is treated more like an individual. And all this while still seeing some of her biggest competition this season: Sotskova and maybe Radionova. She will want to take the third spot to get to Worlds with Evgenia and Alina (if their spots stay with them which I assume will happen), so what she needs to do is beat Sotskova, the current senior Russian #3. Of course there‘s also Tuktamysheva, Panenkova, Pogorilaya... but we don‘t know which state they‘re in, so it‘s probably best to focus on herself for now but keep an eye on Sotskova and Radionova. Hoping for a great season for her!
