2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Competition is over, so now I post: The state is strong! Kostornaya first with 203.50, Kanysheva second with 191.84, over twenty points over bronze.

So Kanysheva is more likely to get 2nd spot rather than Tarusina i guess. Let's see how Tarakanova/Sinitsyna/Vasilieva though. Tarakanova can easily get 2nd spot if she skate like last season but who knows since she's been off because injuries etc.

Kanysheva deserves a second Grand Prix over Tarusina hands down in my opinion. I think she was closer to kostornaia than the scores suggest.

Yes.

The fact she can do two lutzes and two flips with no edge issues also gives her an advantage in the technical mark.

This season is her debut, score will go up as long as she stay consistent each competition, next season with a little more confidence and maturity i think she will be a top contender in juniors.

Kanysheva was so beautiful here, my favourite free skate of the night.

Nobody can compare with Alena Kostornaya today, everyone who has eyes, ears and soul to agree with me. Personally, I'm in love :luv17:

Kanysheva was tentative today.
I'm convinced that she can skate better than that, but still very good for a debut.
Kostornaya is magical, exceptionally good, it's a shame that she has to skate this free program.

I loved Kostornaya and this isn't an attack on her. She really poured everything into her skate here and is probably the only skater in the world who could make me enjoy her current program. But she wasn't as technically flawless as she usually and I really do NOT like the voiceovers on the program, especially the whispery leonardo di caprio one. Therefore, whilst I think Alena has more mature interpretation, I preferred Kanysheva's overall packaging and performance tonight.

I like more Trusova, Scherbakova and Tarakanova to Kostornaya. But that’s just personal preferences.

I liked both Kostornaya and Kanysheva and will keep it at that :).
Although I hope Kostornaya changes her dress. I really loved Kanysheva's.

Agree. Tarusina's jumps are so low that I am afraid in two years, she will lose all of her jumps. Plus her skating style is more like gymnastics.

Ha - I love Kostornaya’s dress and I hope she keeps it. It’s a really well-done adaptation of the typical Juliet costume for skating and I feel it really suits her. Kanysheva’s dress was beautiful too.

So, the competition is over and I can say that it was a wonderful event! I really enjoyed it. Kostornaya and Kanysheva were my personal highlights. I love Kanysheva‘s dress. :luv17: And she was so good today I even worried for Kostornaya for a second. Especially when she seemed a bit hesitant in the warm up, she had a step out in a flip I think and didn‘t look as confident as yesterday. But thankfully she nailed it again, even though one of her 3T‘s in a combo was a bit shaky. Artistically, she was as wonderful and magnificent as ever. She‘s just flying over the ice. Her program isn‘t my favourite but to be honest, I didn‘t even notice the voice overs today. That might be due to being so nervous yet excited at the same time, however. I like her dress, too, it matches the Romeo & Juliet theme really well. Overall, I‘m just happy now for both of them. Kanysheva undoubtedly deserves a second spot. Kostornaya, too, obviously. Two wonderful ladies! :)

I loved the Kostornaia SP !! for me, the dress, the cuts of music and even the sound of the wings at the end, I found them very cool, interesting and ad hoc to the concept of the program. Kostornaia looked exquisite, beautiful lines, posture, SS, big jumps, I really expected to they give +5 to her 2A, it was immense.:drama:
Her LP, however, I didn't like much, the cuts of music and those voices in off make me lose concentration, Alena looked a little more nervous today, but managed to save the program.
Kanysheva (I don't know how her last name is written, sorry) has surprised me too! Last time I fell in love with Tarusina and now Kanysheva appears who is madly good! She has excellent skills and is very artistic, her lines are beautiful too, for me, she deserved more points, but even so, it's a very good result to be her debut and to be only 13 years old!

Just saying that if Kostornaya's 2A in the SP doesn't get +5 I have no idea what does. :scratch3:

It must have been really interesting to see the competition live! I watched the live stream of the FS (I missed the SP) and thought both Kanysheva and Kostornaya were great.

Kostornaya was my favorite, even though she was a little shaky in a couple of places. She is such a compelling and charismatic performer that the bobbles seemed unimportant to me, and in fact I admired the way she was able to recover without dropping her concentration or performance level for even a second. I found her really compelling.

If they're doing 9/5 then neither of them may get a second. Only 2 non-Eteri girls will get a spot and there is Tarusina, Kanysheva, Sinitsyna, Tarakanova, Vasilieva, and probably Gubanova in the mix. It'll likely look something like this:

Shcherbakova, Tarusina
Kostornaia, Kanysheva
Trusova, Sinitsyna
Shcherbakova, Tarakanova
Kostornaia, Vasilieva
Trusova, Gubanova
2 highest scoring 2nd place finishers/non-Eteri girls

If I had to take a guess I'd say Tarakanova and Gubanova are the most likely, but they're both wild cards especially with Gubanova's boot issues. Anything could happen and Kanysheva has certainly positioned herself well. I can see how Vasilieva has just as much potential as the girls who got spots before her, I just don't think its too much to ask that the skaters be required to skate at least one clean competition before securing a spot in a field this deep. I'd prioritize a 2nd place finisher's second spot before hers.

I don't trust Gubanova right now. I hope they ask her to skate for them before giving her a spot. Everyone else had to test and so should she.

Still pretty bitter about all of this but I believe some of you may be right that there is something political going on and RusFed doesn't want to hog all the spots in the final. Frustrating but what can you do.
