2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I really don't think that the topic is worth discussing that much :sarcasm:
Just an example of a bad sportsmanship behaviour.
We saw the same from Liza earlier.

It's called freedom of speech and not censoring / labelling opinions you disagree with as "bad sportsmanship".

It was that "a program with 3Lz-3Lo at the end of the program" shouldn't go above a mature and beautiful skate, as if they were mutually exclusive
yes.

We all have out favourites and an opinion.
My point was about an active athlete or a coach.
They shouldn't discuss and criticize rivals. never. It's a bad sportsmanship.

Exactly! I hope he realized that Evgenia has to compete with skaters that can land 3ltz-3lo or two 3-3 in the second half in a sleep, and potentially quads.

I'm worried he might start to water down the contents because of "the quality" as he did with Tursynbaeva: with 3s-3t in the SP you're not competitive in Russia.

Trash talking is fine as long as we see results. For one Evgenia needs to upgrade her jump layout. Unless he has her landing new jumps I don't see point of this. If he thinks going the route of his previous protege then he is out of his mind. TBF he does coach Hanyu and Fernandez so hopefully he takes inspiration from them and how he managed to make them top in the quad era.

no. It's a sport and should stay this way.
It should not become a political and PR crap and wars.

Uhm, my recollection was that the comments were made in the context of what the changes in the IJS rules meant for Liza herself and other more mature skaters.

She came out and said she agreed that the rule change favours women staying in seniors longer, and also responded to questions about how as a training mate Carolina Koestner was a model and how watching Carolina train led her to train differently.

There is so much else in the interview on the pros and cons of mature skating that focusing on an indirect reference to Alina seems to be seeking to make a drama.

There is a risk in for an athlete to talk at all without the words being taken as indirectly critiquing.

But without media stories...there would be no audience and then no skating.

But he didn‘t mention any other coach or athlete. He literally just said that they‘re working with her as an adult now. He did not mention Eteri or Alina or anybody. He was asked about them and all he said was along the lines of they‘re (Eteri and Alina) going to be there on Friday, it might be a bit akward but they‘re prepared and everything will be fine. There was no bashing and nothing that indicates bad sportsmanship.

And about Liza: I think she could have stated it more politely, then people probably wouldn‘t have made such a fuss about it. But I vehemently disagree that active athletes or coaches shouldn‘t talk about other athletes. They should be respectful that‘s all that matters. But nobody should be denied of the right to express their thoughts. That‘s a fundamental right.

Lol)
Was I the only one cheering for Alina at Olympics??

Many people cheered for Alina because only she could beat "eeeevil Flutzgenia". But now tables are turned and same people now consider Alina "jumper with no artistry" and Medvedeva "the most artistic and emotional skater since Witt". E.g. Vaitsehovskaya. Or K*ola K*ng. Or guys from TSL, who are gushing about Medvedeva but after Olympics accused her in doping cheating.

Did anyone read or view the original interview with Orser in English? I was only able to trace the source to this article: https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20180906/1141329480.html

A request to everyone: whenever you cite an article, take a minute to look for a link to the source in it, and if there is one, cite the source. Sometimes there is a more full version of it. Sometimes the source is less credible than the one who reposted it. Sometimes, after a few redirections you find something completely different from what you was about to post.

As for Brian's words, there is not much to discuss until Zhenya takes part in a competition or two. Brian is a coach, not a spokesman.

Has this interview ever gotten a reaction. I read it just now. I can see why it has rubbed some of you that wrong way. I think what he said is open to interpretation and a good journalist would have asked a follow up question. "Mr. Orser, by treating her like an adult do you mean allowing her more choices in music and choreography and costuming or do you mean the way you are actually interacting with her as a coach? Is it more a question of giving her the ability to steer her own course?"

It would make sense that Orser, who didn't know Evgenia as a child, would see her as an adult. He is coaching an 18 year old. Eteri was coaching a 10-18 year old. It has to be different.

I know that even with the scouts I used to work with the ones that I knew as 8 year olds I tend to treat a bit differently than the ones I met when they were 14 or 15. We are all only human that way.

Ancientpeas, each of your posts on this forum reminds me of the Buddha's quote: "When words are both true and kind, they can change our world." Thank you.
