2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

The mystery is simply that Alena has big strong facial features so you can always clearly see her face when she skates so she doesn't have to work as hard or be as expressive to protray the same emotion as the other girls do. That's always been Kostner secret weapon as well.

Well, it's finally nice to see Liza's 3A get proper GOE and nobody trying to ding her on that.

I still don't like how her jump is scored. Four judges gave Satoko higher GOE marks on the 3Lz-3T (with severe prerotation) than Liza's clean-as-a-whistle 3A. It's ridiculous, the quality of those two passes aren't even comparable.

I’m so tired of Kostornaya’s fans tossing shade at Sasha. It’s a huge turn off.

I love both girls but the shade is creating a very negative vibe around her IMO. Both girls slay in their own way and are deserving of the marks they receive.

I haven't seen any shade from either side. In my experience Alena and Sasha fans are pretty supportive of each other simply because the two girls strengths and weaknesses are polar opposite of each other so there is little point in comparing them and you can appreciate what each brings to the table without getting defensive about your favourite. It's when you mix in the third A that things get nasty. Usually because her fans refuse to accept that the other girls might be better at some things.

the only reason i see is the extra long setup (which is indeed long), because excessive setup may result in GOE deduction.
I will not discuss Satoko's jumps here

Thank you very much for understanding. The rivalry of the fans of Trusova - Kostornaia - Shcherbakova has absolutely no resemblance to the declared war Medvedeva - Eteri girls

I know it's early in the season, but it looks pretty clear that the top three senior ladies this season are Alina, Liza and Evgenia.

Even if Liza is able to get +4 GOE(for height/length, takeoff/landing, effortlessnes and good body position), the judges give you -2 to -3 deduction for long preparation, so that's what basically is holding her back.

Can someone provide a link to the Russian competition from this weekend for videos and results? Cheers

if you look Kostornaia actually jumps bigger and executes jump landings with good flow, Sasha wins with the jump difficulties I acknowledged that
Kostronaia's interpretation is better then Anna because its more effortless, Scherbakova wins in the over all musicality and flexibility, while Kostornaia may have a bit of lurch back sometimes when skating the rest of her lines are very good and she has superior skating skills, Scherbakova skates like a young version of Med but with a bit better skating skills.

I know many people like Scherbakova because she is charming but Kostornaia has that mysterious allure and glow even when she doesn't talk.

Objectively, Sasha jumps bigger. The height of their jumps has been calculated many times over. And Sasha has better air position than Alena. Anna's interpretation is more effortless, she hits every beat of music, and changes her body movements and tension with the music. Alena moves at the same pace through the entire program, here's a challenge: mute her music and play any lyrical song in the background. Alena has amazing skating skills and she is elegant with her arms. That is not equal to interpretation. And to add to the list, I'd also say Alena has the best spins.

We literally had a thread like this two days ago where Alena had bigger Salchows, Loops, Flips, and Toeloops, and iveralll, and then essentially has equal height in Lutzes and Axels.

I generally agree with you on the rest. I feel like Alena’s IN has dropped a level since last season, where she did a better job IMO. Anna has by far the best IN skills of the current junior crop... maybe other than Kanysheva, who this season is one of those few skaters who is able to express their program’s concept on the ice *without* a blindingly pretentious interview spelling it out off of the ice.

Russian veterans, written off multiple times, scored 219.02 and 194.15 points respectively :) Good job by Liza and Alena L. :agree:

A pity about Maria but as a university student she has more on her plate this year. Hopefully she can be inspired to keep going by her older teammates who proved that they can still get very good scores in their 20s.

Liza landed a 3Lz-3T, a first for her I think. She seems to be going really strong this year, she would have finished second here if it were not in Japan. Evgenia is looking very fragile right now, if Russia only had 2 spots I don't think I would give one to her. Even if Evgenia starts going clean, she will get UR and e calls now--and even had she gone clean both programs, had she been at the NHK, would have finished a distant 4th.

Yay Liza qualified for GPF after 4 years out!! Now that Liza had prove us she can do clean 3-3 (other than 3T-3T). Slowly i want her to put that 3Lz-3T into her SP! She can do 3Lo as solo jump, its one of her most consistent jump too.
