2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I‘m sad about Lena, too because she always seemed to love skating so much. And I think she wants to continue but back injuries are tricky and dangerous. I think she should heal completely before trying to compete at Nationals. Otherwise she risks her health. What use does it have if she isn‘t at her best and ends up somewhere distant from the top? It would probably crush her self confidence even more.

And if I‘m completely honest: I like both Sima and Lena so it‘s not out of pure bias but this season Sima deserves to be at Nationals more. Yes, Lena was injured and it obviously isn‘t her fault at all but she barely performed this year and Sima went from competition to competition, trying her best to get a spot. So I think it would be fair to remove her from the list of participants now and put Sima in, giving her the chance to prepare for the competition. It would be better for Lena and her health (I think she still needs some competing before jumping right in at the hardest competition possible, Russian Nationals) and imo, it would be what‘s fair.
Yeah definitely, I agree that Sima definitely deserved going to Nationals and I'm very sad that she can't go even with such great results. And tbh I also agree that it wouldn't be the best for Lena to go to nationals if she's still healing, doesn't she also lose her comeback priviledge for next seasons gp that way?

Personally, I din't think it's fair to Sima. Why do juniors get priority, while senior skaters have to sit at home? Juniors aren't even eligible for senior europeans/worlds and they have their own russian nationals anyways.

Because not only is it competitive experience competing in front of a large crowd but it also determines the national team, and as such, funding levels for next season.

Mmmm someone correct me if I'm wrong but not if they want to go to seniors I think (like the 3A next season)

I simply think there ought to be more spots at Nationals. Figure skating is so popular in Russia, would it really be that much of a problem? It just doesn’t seem to make any sense to keep out skaters like Sima who performed exceptionally well in events this season but didn‘t qualify through Cup Events. Why not just add another spot?

Or another flight... it's still one resurfacing...

They should indeed add another flight. There are just too many good skaters there and skaters like Sima, who didn't manage to qualify through the Russian Cup but still had a great international score, shouldn't be thrown under the bus. Last year at the US nationals there were 22 ladies. It's not logical for Russia to have fewer.

Okay so that would make(except for russian cup bc I'm not too sure about those :"))

Several voices outside Russia ask Medvedeva to end the season and not show up to the Russians, and to skate only in the 2019-2020 season. Because with their problems and technique is very likely to increase their errors. I think it's good advice, to force oneself now will only frustrate her more, the pressure is already too much, much more than during the GPF classification. And I add, what is the controversy with the coach?

OK, I'll post it here. I was hesitant to do it because I don't have a link to back it up.

I saw a video on Instagram yesterday or two days ago of that coach from Fluture's post pulling a little skater up by her ponytail mid-jump, which must have been painful. I can't find this video right now, most likely it's been deleted. Besides, she seems to scrutinise the weight of her little students, some of whom look about 5.

I didn't want to start any drama but I mentioned that controversy because Fluture expressed her concern about one of that coach's skaters.
