2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

if for some reason Trusova and Shcherbakova miss their quads in competition, could we see Kostornaia pull off a win?

:slink:

This was in my dream today and I literally cried while waking up because I was so happy for her. I don’t want her to lose her motivation for skating because she always comes behind Trusova at big events.

they would probably have to miss all their quads but even then it’s not certain considering last season sasha fell on her only quad and still beat clean alena. landing even just one quad means they will most likely beat her, though I suppose the new goe system could make a difference.

I feel like if we have learned anything from the stories of Medvedeva/Zagitova, Kim/Sotnikova and Kwan/Lipinski (or even, in a different sport, Kudryavtseva/Mamun), it's to never take for granted the result of any competition -- even or especially major competitions.

Not really.

Just a few weeks ago we saw Trusova put out one of her worst performances, where she only landed one quad. She fell on a 4Lutz and popped a 4T, performing a 2T instead. In spite of these mistakes and certainly very generous scoring for Kostornaya, Trusova still won the FS by a margin of almost 8 points.

Trusova would have to fall on every single quad, I'd say. But even that might honestly not be enough. I fully believe she would outscore Kostornaya even if she fell on all 3 quads and missed a combo. Her layout's strong.

Note: This assumes that she rotates every quad. Still, we could do a little bit of jumping pass BV math here. Assuming they use the same layout as at Russia Cup stage IV Kostornaya:

3.3+4.9+8.5+3.3+10.45+9.35+5.83 = 45.63

Trusova assuming all 3 quads are -5GOE falls and that she misses combo, including -3 points for the fall reductions:
4.75+4.75+3.75+3.30+11.88+11.77+5.83 = 46.03

... And therein lies the issue. To be honest, perhaps that's a bit too much - Kostornaya would likely gain in GOE and PCS if Trusova skates like that. But it's pretty crazy that the BV would still be above Kostornaya's.

Too lazy for a proper translation....

She was frustrated that she skated clean, but got low scores and bad placements. She didn't knew why she was even doing it, since for her it is either first or nothing. Then, at rusnats, she skated clean and was not even top 6th, and was nearly out of russian team.
In summer, she quit FS, simply gave up skating.

She chose Plushenko after talking to Sima Sakhanovich.

Also, she has a youtube blog. Right now, she uses her phone to film it, but her dad said they would buy her something if she gets 1k subscribers. Just saying

Summer here, but will watch for sure =)

- We tried all quads and found the best one for me: quadruple loop (4Lo). Only need to stop UR it.
- 4T also goes well but I don't know when and where those quads to be shown.

- Yes, I left ET group. With no other reason I left the skating totally. But I was feeling empty and decided to come back. I talked to Serafima Sakhanoitch and she told me about Pluschenko's Academy.

(long interview with many details of her life in and out of sport)

P.S. 4Lo is still not landed in competition by any female skater. Who will be the first?

thank you :)

I don't want to hope for Alena to win because with the current layout that would mean Trusova and Shcherbakova need to have a splatfest. I love her but you don't want to wish this to anyone :(

On a brighter note, rockerskating wrote she did a clean 3F-3T-3Lo combo in JGPF practise - so if she survives her current period of growing struggles I still have hope she can one day compete 3As (it looked so easy!) and -3Lo combos to compete with the quadsters and Rika! If you repeat 3A and 3F she could get a competitive BV without quads, and does not have to hope for others to bomb completely or lose their jumps :)

I think we all have learned not to take anything for granted. Everything can theoretically happen in a competition. However, I do believe that if we look at this rationally and with everything we‘ve seen so far this season and also the last, it‘s certainly more than tough to beat Trusova and Shcherbakova. They would basically need to fall on ALL quads + at least one combo, I believe for Alena to win. And that means that both of them need to bomb completely AND Alena would need to be absolutely flawless. It‘s not impossible but... I‘d say it‘s almost impossible. She can get the silver medal if one of them falters but both at the same time? I doubt it. And also, I want to see clean skates. Wishing for Alena to win would mean LOTS of falls. Hm. I don‘t know if my bias goes that far. I‘ll tell you when I‘ve watched the event but for now I‘d probably say... not really. Sasha and Anna would be incredibly sad and that‘s not what I want them to be.

And that says me whose favourite is Alena without any question. I always enjoy watching her skate and if I was the judge (thankfully I‘m not lol), I‘d shower her with gold medals. I just hope she isn‘t frustrated from always losing to Sasha and now Anna too. You could clearly see her genuine joy but also astonishment as she won the SP against Sasha in the Russian Cup Event. Which, sadly, leads me to believe she got kind of used to losing. I truly hope she gets her 3A one day, doesn‘t lose her other triples and improves her performance ability even further. Then I think she has good chances to do well in seniors. She is something special. I just hope she doesn‘t give up.

Good luck to everyone!

off topic:

I liked to read the posts next to the pics on Insta. I understand the Russians a little bit but the comments are hard for me many times thus I copy the text and I use translater. But I can't copy those comments for about a week, the page behaves like a jpg link. This will be a big loss for me..:sad21:

Which posts on Insta?

Also: So cool that Nastya is trying 4Lo. She could be the first one to land it. I hope she does!! Go, Nastya! :yahoo: But why do I have the feeling that, upon hearing this, Sasha and Anna will look at each other, grin and say: “So, who‘s gonna be the first to jump 4Lo?“ And then they‘ll shout at the same time: “I will!“ and rush to the ice to train it. Hurry up, Nastya, you’re competing against two mad girls. They don‘t know fear. :laugh2:

I can't copy the captions either. I've just tried.

ETA: I tried to do the same with Liza's posts but it also doesn't work. It's probably something that instagram introduced.

I was afraid of that! Why the Insta did it? What was the goal?

I will have some crazy sleeps again with THAT time difference once again!! I will not gonna wake up for junior ladies unfortunately , but for seniors ladies it will be 8 in the morning here. Yeahhhh!!! So a whole hour before university starts , there will be figure skating !!!

Cant wait !!!

Some websites do this to protect the author's copyrights. Maybe people reported some instances of misusing their captions? No idea. Using outside translation tools will be now harder for us, unfortunately.

I've read on IG that all Russian junior ladies had clean practice sessions today. Aleksandra and Anna even tried quads, Aleksandra was more successful.

Uhh... is it possible Sofia might not get GP spots next season even though she got to the gpf?

Her SB is pretty 'low' for a russian lady, Masha has the ranking, others like Gubanova, Tarakanova and Guliakova still have chances and say Pogo uses the comeback rule to grab her spots...

Do I have to worry for a better SB in the final or is she fine for next season?

Pogorilaya's name has to be submitted by her federation. If they want Samodurova to get GP spots, they won't submit other names like Pogorilaya, Sakhanovich, Leonova, etc. At least that is my understanding.
Right now it appears that if the 3A all goes to seniors, then Zagitova, Medvedeva, Trusova, Kostornaya, Shcherbakova, Tarusina, Samodurova, Konstantinova, and possibly Sakhanovich/Tarakanova may get spots. Tuktamysheva I think said she would retire at the end of this season.

every post https://www.instagram.com/angelsofplushenko/ can you copy the text???? Or am I not a computer master? :o: Should I set up my computer?

No, I can‘t copy the text either. But I think if you have an account and are logged in, there‘s a button with automatic translation at the bottom right corner. I don‘t know if it works on the computer but on the phone it certainly does. The translations are on par with google translate quality, sometimes better, sometimes worse.
