2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

A fun story in mid of all the debating :)

I'm currently working at Frankfurt Airport (Germany) and singing Chrismas songs while dressed as an angel.
2 hours ago while I was singing, a little group of people walked by and a girl stared at me with a look on her face that said "What the hell is that?" and I thought: wow funny, she looks like Trusova. Then I looked to the girl walking next to her and it was Shcherbakova and then I saw Kostornaia walking in front of them and I got really excited and started fangirling inside while singing about Chrismas.
They walked by and I was so sad I was in the middle of a song and couldnt stop to go after them although that would have been creepy anyway xD

So now you know they flew back from Vancouver to stop in Frankfurt and then fly to Russia. Alena didnt even look at me, Anna was watching neutrally and Sasha was clearly not impressed ;)

That's quite a post number 100 for you! Nice story.

Merry Christmas!

I think it’s actually great for Alina to have a rivalry- it’s incredibly motivating and really pushes skaters to be their best. There have been so many great rivalries in skating- and winning against skaters who are equally as good as you is much more rewarding than running away with it.

Adelina vs Yulia in 2014 was awesome and both girls likley achieved their best results that season because of it. I was so angered when RusFed judges chose Adelina as 2014 RusNat champion but Yulia bounced back and won Euros. I eventually became Adelina’s fan just out of respect for the rivalry. Mao Asada was also still a force to be reckoned with and had a clear advantage over her but somehow all the battles that season really made me an even bigger fan of Mao too.

I think Adelina and Mao pushed Yulia to skate better than anyone had expected she ever could. The push to get a spot for the Olympics and the rivalries that formed that season gave us her best season ever and one that many of us will always remember.

I guarantee Rika is crediting some of her success to the standard of competition that these Russian ladies have set. From last season on the JGP to this this year on the GP.

Does anyone know when the practices for RN start? I can't understand the website :)

The tickets for Friday and Saturday are sold out. Resellers offer inferior sectors for high price. Well, I was smart to jump on the wagon as soon as sales started. Now I have center sector seats for all days....I have no idea about practice - I think it will not be open for general public.

Does Guliakova have a high enough Seasons Best to get a GP next season, or will she have to settle for senior Bs? I have a soft spot in my heart for her.

Wow, thank you all for the answers!

What a marvellous stroke of luck!! You're a more disciplined angel than I would have been, shedding my angelic wings and clattering clumsily after them to gawk and gape. :jaw:

I desperatly wanted to, but you gotta stay professional ;)

You had to start singing the Russian national anthem ,
they would definitely stop and all of you would sing together

Oh yes, normally thats what I always do but today it didnt fit my Chrismas theme ;)

what a coooool job!!!!!!!!:eeking::luv17:

Thanks, Im a self dependant singer and Frankfurt Airport is one of the best customers in the Chrismas season.

Ahh! Wow! So lucky!

my idea on what Alena should've been thinking but probably didn't because she's sweet and adorable and not arrogant at all: Alena: yeah... I'm already an angel ;)

Alena walked quite a bit in front of the others and I noticed her last, so I dont know if she had actually looked before I saw her.
She certainly looks like an angel. And they all wore their hair in a bun like in competition which made it easier to even reconignize them that fast.

Wow how awesome! :) You showed great discipline not stopping mid-carol to yell "OMG! It's the 3A!!"

Sounds like a fun job - I assume you can sing of course :) I'm tone-deaf and would only be allowed to sing for torture purposes to get people to reveal if they've packed contraband

Hahahaha that is a great talent as well xD

I am more than sure that Sasha has shown her interest. She just has that special mimic... You still drew their attention, and it's really cool!

I wouldnt take it in a bad way against her anyway. You get all sorts of reactions when singing as an angel at a place they dont expect you to be there. Some people are delighted, some dont care, others even laugh at you. Its part of the job. But I just thought it was funny how Sashas face just showed pure irritation.

That's quite a post number 100 for you! Nice story.

Merry Christmas!

Oh, really? What a great coincidence :D

can anyone do some maths and tell what a realistic SP/LP senior score would look like for Kostornaia, Trusova, and Shcherbakova for nats? I'm really curious how clean skates from them would stack up against a clean Alina, Zhenya, etc.

Trusova and Kostornaia competed against each other as seniors in the Russian Cup. Trusova (not clean) scored 232.24 and Kostornaia scored 226,85. (Scherbakova competed as a junior.)

ETA: They may have got some bonuses that don't apply at nationals.

For the Russian juniors who compete internationally as juniors and domestically as seniors, do they train multiple versions of their programs? Because the senior programs are 30 seconds longer with an additional jumping pass, right?

Anna competed senior at the 3rd Russian Cup stage (where she landed both quads but fell on the combo in the short) and scored 227.27. There were seven bonus points altogether (for both the quads and some of her spins) so this would leave her with a score of 220.27 without bonus.

I also went back and checked Sasha and Alena's protocols from Stage 4. They both had two bonus points (Sasha for her quad combo and Alena for her spins).

So the ranking (with bonus's removed) would be.
1. Trusova 230.24
2. Kostonaya 224.85
3. Shcherbakvoa 220.27

The only thing they have to add is a choreo sequence. Junior and Senior ladies have the same number of jumping passes.
