2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I would discount what Zhenya said. As I wrote half a year ago no one can imagine the psychological blow on her after she had not won with 2 clean skates. I don't know what I or someone else would have done in her place. And I don't know what we would say, especially having mom, grandmother, TAT and many other advisors nearby. That's why I supported her move back then thinking that it would be a torture for her to train on the same ice with Zagitova....But time heals. And thinking back, her taking 4-5 month break, focusing on health, going to Tibet to clear the mind and returning to Sambo might have brought much higher payback than what we have now.

And for the 100th time, I don't understand the long-term talks. And not only I - some big names openly said that they are disappointed. All previous comebacks where in another era. Not with Rika and her multiple triple axels, not with the reigning OGM trying to stay relevant, not with quad babies coming. I am skeptical, for example, that we will see "the most decorated skater of the previous quad" competing next season. Because the landscape will be very different for those who don't just love to skate but who aim at big podiums.

I do think that Zhenya has the right to make her decision, though. And we had the case of two big rivals not being able to skate on the same ice before - with Yagudin and Plushenko. It‘s absolutely understandable and I don‘t think Zhenya going to Tibet or anywhere else would have changed that so quickly. Losing the OGM never leaves you, Orser said once how it took him 10 years to get over his loss. To expect that from Zhenya and go train as if nothing happened after a few months is a bit too much to my mind. She is only a teenager after all. And I, being her age, can say that yes, I would have felt betrayed by Eteri, given how close they were. Regardless of whether or not it‘s true, I would have been angry and disappointed and I would have probably left, too. So, I understand Zhenya‘s decision. And in the end, it‘s still her life. She has to decide and live with the consequences. We are just fans. We shouldn‘t think of ourselves so highly as if we could knew what she was thinking in that moment and judge whether it was right or not. Only she will know.

I think Orser only now understands the true depth in Russian ladies skating. I wrote a similar post in her fanfest. That he now seems to realise the fact that yes, 62 points will get you at 14th place of 18 competitors. That yes, there are quad girls who are allowed to turn senior next year. That yes, that even if they happen to lose all their jumps by the time of the next Olympics; there will be another bunch of 15 year old first year seniors either from Japan or Russia who are ready to utterly dominate the ladies competition. I think now he will stop to talk about “making Zhenya a champion soon“ and that ”her titles are only the tip of the iceberg“. Because it certainly won‘t be as easy.

And why would Zhenya not compete next year? At least on the GP circuit we will see her. Everything else beyond that is unknown.

As far as I know ( but could be wrong)pumped full with painkillers. She basically forced herself , her body to function. It is a testament to her pure will and determination. And yes she gave her everything there, gave her whole soul out there on the ice and got 2 clean skates, but if I look at her free I was really scared at some jumps because she looked a bit unsteady sometimes. And I do think ( again think no know)that this made her injury worse. But naturally no one in their right mind would withdraw from mabye the only Olympics ever in their life.

And then she went to Orser, who hard Hanyu on crutches at the medal ceremony.
There are no healthy figure skaters. There are no coaches who will keep you healthy.

this thread is like toxic sludge

I didn't know all of you were elite level skaters and have a foot in the door of RusFed politics! So impressive that you all seem to know what Med/Eteri/TAT/BOrser has been thinking for the past year! I am truly surrounded by greatness here at goldenskate!

Btw, don't you all get tired of posting the same thing day in and day out? "Evgenia would not have done well if she continued under Eteri" "Evgenia would have gotten even better if she'd stayed" I didn't know you all were psychics!! Can someone do a tarot card reading for me someday?

Lol you all sound foolish discussing the future of a girl you've never even said one word to, is the rest of the Russian team so boring that you have to discuss Evgenia and Evgenia only? For 16 pages?

Welcome to goldenskate

But at any rate, please do not read selectively. Over the last 16 pages, we discussed topics such as Alina, Stasya, Liza, Sonia, Worlds and Euros teams, Universiade, 3A, ladies jumping quads, increase of age for rusnats, increase of age seniors in general.

As for speculation, we are free to speculate based on available data.

All I know is that I admire Evgenia very much for recognising that she, her body and her skating all needed a change. I hope with her hard work and dedication, she'll be able to skate to her full potential once more. From an outsider's perspective, it would seem like there would be no better coach to help her with this.

and I am free to complain ;)

Was our magical podium just on a late night TV show? Seems like Tina (Sasha’s puppy) even made it and was as big a part of the interview as anyone. :laugh2:

I saw pictures on Twitter of the 3A (separate) on some sort of talk shows? I'm not sure if they were recent but gosh they were GLOWING

Completely agree with that. I often come here wanting to post something, before doing so I read the comments I missed and then I leave with a headache. :palmf: I'm all up for discussions but that's difficult with some people living in their own world.

This is just my guess but I think that Rusfed wants to have open options now that it is impossible to name the solution ideal for WC in Japan.

Europeans outcome.

Zagitova just needs to be OK. With her OGM and strong season start including GPF silver she will get the WC spot unless there is a total meltdown in both SP and FP and the score is below 200. This will mean that she has major body issues and/or illness/injury. The Fed will reconsider if it makes sense to send her in such a condition. I hope that this gloomy scenario won't materialize and spot #1 is taken. The rest is based on the assumption that Alina is fine.

Samodurova has to do her regular job of 2 clean skates. She might then even improve her total score to 205 - 207. This will be around #7 - #8 place in the worlds and a good support for Zagitova to keep 3 team spots. Her WC team place may be in danger if something goes wrong and she scores below 200. I think that she will be replaced then even if she gets a European medal. Even if she is fine and scores around 205 she may be in danger if 2 of 3 following conditions are met:

1. Konstantinova scores more than she at the Europeans
2. Tuktamysheva fully recovers and has a competition (Universiada?) with the score well above 210.
3. Medvedeva has a competition with 2 clean skates (Cup of Russia? Universiada?) with the score well above 210.

There are 3 scenarios for Stasya:

1. She skates better than Sofia and scores above 205. Then spot #2 will be taken by her. Zhenya might replace her at Universiade to let Konstantinova focus on WC preparation.
2. She skates better than Sofia but the score is below 200. Then it will depend on Liza's condition and Zhenya's results. I think Universiade will be the moment of truth. If she bombs it she won't go - Liza and Zhenya will.
3. She bombs the Europeans scoring below Sofia. She won't go to both WC and Universiade. The choice for 2 out of 3 will be among Sofia, Liza, and Zhenya.

Liza will replace either Sofia or Stasya if she has one start where she shows her tactical comeback. She has to score above 210 - better around 220. If she is not convincing enough that will be a sad end of such a promising season for her.

Zhenya will be in the team if 2 of 3 following conditions are met:

1. Samodurova bombs
2. Konstantinova bombs
3. Liza does not recover.

I agree. But why did Tat tell Orser not to prepare Zhenya for worlds? My understanding is, if you are First or second substitute, you should be prepared to go.

Tina stole the show. Girls were shy with all those TV people around them. And the host seems to be not good to make kids chatty. Girls looked a bit tense and cautious prolly were worried to say something too funny. :)

Here is a full episode. Seems like Tatiana Navka also made an appearance after our girls. Some funny cross-dressing game with the host and his assistant there too...

Say it to Stasya and Kovtun.
Stasya is the other TAT favourite who was pushed already 4 times (JWC17 JWC18 WC18 and now) over these who deserved it more. just because of TAT.
Rusfed and TAT done a lot of work here.. to help Evgenia... by lowering scores to other skaters...... and by giving her a crazy PCS.
Now TAT is pushing Stasya and Evgenia over Liza and Sonya who is obviously more deserved these spots....
yes,.... no influence at all.

Idk if it is all because of TAT.

I remember Stasya being pushed even before TAT publicly admitted how much she likes her. There are people saying she comes from a wealthy influential family, but nobody has brought evidences so far.

I'd also like to bring the theory that maybe RusFed is backing on Chebotareva's group because she brought Kolyada.

you're not wrong.
it was not even a mounths ago... It was a few days ago. She was defending quads and 14 y.o age for RN. And next day... (when teams was announced) she is saying a totally different thing.
This show is always the same. One day TAT says one thing. Next day... the exact opposite.
I would say she has some ... mental problems.. or something that looks like this.

I think she knows where to stand depending on who's asking the question, and based on results.

Probably she wasn't expecting a podium sweep from Eteri's trio or such a poor outing from her favourites (Konstantinova aside)
