2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Man, unless they somehow dinged her for flutz or whatever, I don't understand today's scoring of Alena. Like, the jumps were even better than Senior nats, and look at that ridiculousness!!! In my opinion she deserved to win. The 3A are exciting anyway because every competition it's a slightly different podium.

I think so too. I mean, I‘m happy for Sasha winning here and she did do two clean quads but still. Alena was absolutely breathtaking and the PCS difference of 3 points in the FS really wasn‘t fair. But she still got silver and will be going to Junior Worlds so it‘s okay. I don‘t agree with it but still... Now they‘re equal, each of them winning a big title this season.

I'm so butthurt over these results, it's impossible. I didn't think Alena would win, but having a lower scores than those at nats 1 month????

Well, her total score was higher, and her PCS were much higher in both programs. But the loss of the ChSq in juniors is about 5 points off of what her score would be otherwise in the FS.

No ChSq.

Good enough result. Trusova did have more difficult jumping, and her concept is more interesting in the LP than Kosto's, too.

I'm gonna go cry in a corner now

I‘ll join you.

No, seriously, I don‘t quite get the result but I‘m happy for Sasha. The scores seemed weird today. (Like Sasha getting more PCS than Anna? And only a three points difference to Alena? In what world) but now she‘s won a major title too. Will make Junior Worlds even more interesting. But still... I can‘t help but feel overall disappointment at the way the scoring was handled today and what it did to the outcome.

Ah thank you guys for reminding me! I feel a bit better now

Agreed. I hope judging at Junior Worlds is more reasonable and Alena and Anna can fight for gold too.

I hope so. JGPF had pretty fair PCS to my eye, and they were really fair in the SP too here. Judges only became crazy in the FS.

Anyone watching the medal ceremony? Can someone explain to me why Eteri got a medal too? Like what is happening there?

Me watching Alena's glorious (and surprisingly higher) jumps: :dbana:

No one thinks Trusova has a more interesting concept and interpretation than Kostornaya? Kosto's skating is undoubtedly more mature, but that's not all that matters.

Me watching anything Alena does. :party2:

Also: It‘s so cool to see the 3A together on the podium again. And it‘s crazy that the distribution of the podium places is different every competition so far. Will be interesting to see who‘ll make it to the top at Junior Worlds.

1) Trusova does have more difficult jumping, that's why her technical score was 90+. It doesn't explain her PCS.

2) Um, what does that have to do with anything? Skaters are not judged on how interesting their concept is. Some people may prefer Sasha's concept, but that doesn't mean she interprets and performs it better than Alena performs hers.

Totally agree with this. It's definitely hard to connect to her skating. My excitement levels are through the roof when skates though.

2) Um, what does that have to do with anything? Skaters are not judged on how "interesting" their concept is..

1) Not sure what you're arguing here. I didn't say "she has more difficult jumping therefore she should get more PCS". Everyone here was overscored on PCS, actually.
2) Choreography and Interpretation. And Performance, to an extent. If someone has a more generic concept, guess where they should be dinged?

Some people may prefer Sasha's concept, but that doesn't mean she interprets and performs it better than Alena performs hers.

Not sure you've got the hang of what "interprets" means. Kosto does have more refinement, but that doesn't automatically mean she's channeling it in any meaningful manner -- that choreo has been as all over the place and jumbled as it has been since the beginning of the season.

More interesting concept? Yes, probably. Romeo and Juliet is as classic as classic can be. More interesting interpretation? No, I don‘t think so. Sasha interprets her SP very well but her FS is severely lacking in this aspect. It‘s probably because she‘s doing those difficult jumps but there‘s not much performance. Especially compared to her SP. I don‘t know in which part of PCS the concept is supposed to factor in, though? And is it really something to judge? Like, should Zagitova automatically get lower PCS because she‘s doing Carmen and POTO? I know many would agree but that‘s really not how PCS scoring works.

Smart move from Sasha ditching her 4lz in her FS. Trying to cram in too many quads in program proved not to be worth it anymore.... Wonder what her layout will be in Jworlds.
