2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Well, it really takes nerves of steel to fall off a quad and do 4-3 and 4 with no time to rest and focus. In my absolutely biased opinion if Sasha works on her skating skills a bit more this summer, keeps at least two quads and Daniil finds good programs for her in future - she can become the best ever. I only hope she stays healthy.

On the other hand, Anna's skating was more balanced and I believe the gap between their scores could have been smaller.

Why so much hate on Sasha? I really like her programs this season and her jumps are really nice too honestly, very good spring in the toe-jumps and there’s always so much confidence going into the jumps. Especially her +Lo combos when they are done cleanly... so beautiful. Her rippons are really nice too (but aren’t rippons universally pleasing?) Anyway, I think she deserved first place here.

Honestly, I think Anna should have won today. Her program was much more... smooth and balanced. Sasha's feel like doing tricks to awesome music.

Honestly Sasha's skating skills are pretty good, certainly nothing to sneeze at. I think her programs this year didn't do much to show off her performance abilities and were less engaging than from her first junior season, so she's been getting criticized a lot for only being a jumper and nothing else. I hope they find music for next year that she can really get into character and perform to, which she is certainly capable of. As much as I enjoy the weird/intense thing she did this year, it's difficult music to interpret and not as accessible to viewers as the other programs from Eteri's camp.

Especially on Twitter and another site... I don't know, perhaps these people are terrified for their favorites next season :) She can fall a few times in fs and still beat majority of senior ladies.

People always complain, one way or the other. I'm old enough to remember when everyone was up in arms about Patrick Chan repeatedly winning competitions while splatting all over the place because he was a generationally-talented PCS skater. Now the argument is going the other way. People seem to forget that you can also be a generationally talented tech skater, so much so that you can compensate for a mistake or two.

You are being very disrespectful. Look at what heights that team brought Alena. If you're gonna be nasty like this, just leave.

That about sums it up Helena.

Congratulations to Sasha on winning back-to-back Junior World Championships making her without question the greatest Junior Girl of all time! Well done to Anna as well. both girls have amazing potential for the seniors.

I do not know what is more surprising, that Trusova with her most horrible skating of the season was 4 points away from the FS world senior record; or that Shcherbakova with minimal errors was only 3 points away from her.

Just wondering... did you happen to fast forward through the parts where Trusova attempted 3 quads and landed 2 of them? Or when Shcherbakova did everything save for a minor stepout on her 4Z?

Congratulations to the winners!

Congrats to Trusova for back to back titles (and definitely earning it with huge difficulty). And congrats to Anna for almost a clean skate! Also congrats to Ting for the bronze and sticking it to the people criticizing her and Tom Z.

I also think the result was correct with Trusova nailed 2 quads... her BV even with the UR lutz was 8 points higher than Anna's.. and had Anna not stepped out of the quad lutz, she'd probably have gotten the necessary GOE to win.

Also congrats to both Anna and Alexandra for getting higher TES than any of the men. With equal PCS factoring, they would have beat the men.

I would also like to congratulate Dudakov. It was like watching “chess” game with trying to bring back Alexandra’s 3Lz-3Lo during the warmup. This is kind of interesting moments that you see the agony and dynamical thinking in coaches.

Am I alone to think that Anna S.'s jumps are getting better and better this season? They look so effortless with great lift into the air.

At the same time it is also noticeable Anna is getting stronger too, her height and muscle core is getting bigger. They growing her as an athlete just right, she is keeping her jumps and not suffering puberty dis-coordination due to growth spurt. Her jumping are indeed getting better, lift into the air is less labored.

I gotta say it is obvious the current up-and-coming generation of Rus ladies are the strongest Russia ever had. Trusova, Kostornaya, Shcherbakova, Kanysheva, Synitsyna, Tarusina, Panenkova and Tarakanova at their current age are stronger and more talented than Sotnikova, Lipnitskaya, Tuktamysheva, Medvedeva, Zagitova, Radionova, Ngumanova and Gubanova were at the same age of 14-15. The new wave of Russian ladies is phenomenal. And a new generation of Usacheva, Valieva and &Co is coming too. Scary fact:some of them are Beijing2022-eligible!

The constant quick generation changes (short lifespan of 3-4 years) in Russian ladies in the past 7 years are very understandable because of their amazing depth and constant evolution - the new generation is better than the previous one. Evolution. It is easy as that. Win for figure skating fans - our sport is getting more beautiful and more technically advanced.

Just look at that:

I‘m sorry but we have one real star of the competition and that‘s Tina! Sasha and Anna come close but no one can beat that adorable little puppy.

And we also have one loser:

Not Sasha, the camera men who did a great job focusing on the middle of the skaters‘ body while they were jumping/during step sequences so that we could not see landings or turns and steps. Very convenient, thanks.

The interesting thing is, if Alena had been there she might've snuck in for silver or even gold, with the way her PCS has shot up the last few competitions.

I highly doubt it. Bronze for sure though. Honestly, a clean Alena can't challenge Sasha and Anna with their quads, as we've seen multiple times throughout the season.

Yeah the camera work was really bad. Congrats to the girls, and I'd like to just take a moment and savour it while everyone is cheering for all of them, before the bloodbath and drama or being a senior begins. This week was probably the most exciting one ever. I don't wanna go home.

What were your highlights? And I'm sure it was an exciting time being in the audience.

Remarkable Sasha only lost one international competition her entire junior career, which is a better record than every Russian lady in recent memory. Yulia and Elena only really had 1 junior season with 2 appearances at junior worlds.

Alena has gotten so good under Eteri and is the most beautiful skater. She wont leave EG anytime soon. There is no need to.

Well, yeah. If one can compare Alyona before Eteri&Co (2+ years ago) and now it is easy to see the difference. I remember Daniil G responded to interviewer's compliments about Alyona's high-PCS skills that they think Alyona soon could become even better and they still need to work on a lot of SS things with Alyona. Well he did not lie.

BTW, Sasha is getting better in her PCS too. Despite her previous coach's controversial statement about how "wooden" Sasha is, any regular figure skating fan can see the difference - just find Trusova's previous programs under that big-mouth Vokov and compare those with current programs now under Dudakov's jumping technique and Eteri's and Daniil's choreography taste. I wonder what that grape-sour coach can tell about "wooden" Sasha now? Aleksadnra Vyacheslavovna Trusova = at the moment is the 2-time World Jr champion. Someone pass Volkov a microphone please.
