2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

To those who loves bashing Trusova for lack of artistry/interpretation/performance i.e. unjustified PCS - just watch her gala:
https://vk.com/video-97272391_456242108 ;)
They were able to show that impish nature of a teen girl, joy of life, courage and will for victory perfectly - it's just ideal modern art piece IMO. With deep message behind it. Of course it's staggeringly different of typical snoozy "mature skating" presumably worthy high PCS. But why it always have to be like this? Actually - it shouldn't

What I also don’t get about all the ridiculous bashing about artistry is that somehow people are convinced she has zero potential for further development. First of all, that is patently untrue with even a tiny bit of research into her past programs. Secondly, she is very clearly still a girl, from a mental/behavioral standpoint, which is perfectly right and appropriate for her age. Just in terms of mannerisms, Anna and Alena seem more advanced and mature, so it’s no surprise that they bring out more nuances in their skating due to a more developed understanding of themselves and what they’re trying to achieve with the music/movements. Sasha will obviously grow up and gain the same qualities in her skating. It’s unfortunate that all the armchair experts have already chosen this hill to die on and don’t even want to see what she can turn into.

Main goal for the next season: not to let TAT and co. make a big drama between the 3A as she did with Alina and Zhenya. We have to protect them at all cost!:dev2:

Interesting question.

How is the relationship between #TeamTutberidze and TAT? IMO TAT is a relic from the past, merely maintained in her position at Perviy Kanal because she is so 'patriotic'. I wish they'd do away with her and bring in some new and more unbiased commentators.

TAT's other roles behind the screens? Never give that old biddy influence on the parents of those young skaters is my advice.
FFKKR and MosKomSport are probably hornet's nests and snake pits of conflicting interests, not so much with the juniors, because these have little 'commercial' value, but in using senior skaters as pawns in shadowy games of power, influence and money.

The exciting smiles in the K&C by almost all skaters that met their own expectations in the JWC is a thing we won't likely witness in the seniors, when so much more than 'personal best' is at stake.

It seems that someone was going to grab Trusova shoulders to stop jumping quads at the end of the exhibition. There is no other way to stop it. Also very significant as she finish your routine, with your fist raised.

" I am unstoppable ... I am invincible today " was very true in JWC for Trusova.

Hopefully there will be some nice and interesting media appearances coming week where we'll have to chance to wonder, learn and laugh about and with the Quadster(s).

Right, this is more politically correct.

All three medalist were very friendly with each other it seemed. Cui obvious appreciation of the Russian skaters was visible.
No doubt the girls shared contact info and will try to keep in touch for a while or make nice comments on each others' public social media.

Well, my point was that if Alysa (not Ting) is building her media status (her agents, in fact) it makes more sense to refer to Michel as the main inspiration rather than to Russian juniors who are unknown in the States yet.

Sorry, I got the names and nationalities mixed up

Two very good USA skaters with Chinese and Japanese names and looks on the JWC medal rostrums left me quite confused.

There could be different stories. TAT may be truly influential. Or may be she is just a respected for her previous achievements old lady. She was kicked out of Channel one for a while and she complained publicly. Then she was reinstalled. If she were that powerful no one would have touched her in the first place. May be some influential people keep her just as an icon.

There is another example on Russian TV - Anna Dmitrieva. She has been tennis commentator since 1970s. Well, she had a lot of achievements like 18 national titles. For a while she was cool - something like Ted Barton's style. But over the last 10 years it has been getting worse and worse. Both her voice and what she says have started to provoke quite negative reactions in me - I switch off the sound when she is commenting. But she keeps going on being almost 80 now. I think people just pity her and keep her no matter what. Or may be she is influential - same story as with TAT.

What kind of influence could TAT wage over skaters, clubs or even local and national federations?
Is she in any way connected to power and big corporate money? Is she in any way highly educated in sports physics, psychics, medicine or whatever? To me, she is just an annoying talking head.

I'll stick with my advice not to let TAT near any of the parents of those prospective young skaters. Hopefully the parents do get good advice from trusted and independent parties, because a lot is at stake for their kids in the most important formation phase of their lives, adolescence and young adulthood. Their world should be bigger than figure skating alone.

You are being very disrespectful. Look at what heights that team brought Alena. If you're gonna be nasty like this, just leave.

Is Alina not skating at Worlds?
Because if she is, I think she might be able to help hold onto 3 spots.
Like she did in 2018.

Even though she fell 3 times, she still fought for every jump.
And she fought for every non-jump element.
And she finished 5th and helped secure the 3 spots that Russia has in 2019.

I think Radianova could replace TAT someday.

I think TAT and others such as Yagudin were pushing for Zhenya to leave Eteri and Alina aftrer the olympics. I surmise they said you wont want to look at the girl who edged you for olympic gold every day. Does that make sense? I suppose so.

Thankfully worlds is almost here. I cant wait. I hope EG has Alina ready.

I think it is natural for a youngster to admire a super-star who is a couple of years older. Then comes the realization that, hey, I will be competing against her in a year or two -- I can't just hang around in awe asking for her autograph.

I remember U.S. skater Jenny Kirk as a junior. She was all about Michelle Kwan. The next year she moved up to seniors and switched to Kristi Yamaguchi (safely out of the way as a pro by that time).

As for Michelle herself, her role model was Tonya Harding. Her coach and choreographer told her she should try to skate like Janet Lynn. Michelle's response, "Who's Janet Lynn?" :)

OMG - Dick Button would clutch his pearls then and there if he had heard her saying that!

So I saw the fan gala video from above and I almost considered not uploading mine, but the person had missed the cantilever -> 4T and I was like THAT MUST NOT HAPPEN so I uploaded it. Excuse my random comments here and there to my boyfriend :drama:

Recap and feelings coming soon :p :dance3:

Agreed. If you are putting a 13 year old on live TV in front of millions of people during a late night talk show then you have gone through the most appropriate answers for her to use.

Don't hold back, now. What do you really think of her.

Where would we be without the old biddies, codgers, Grand Damen and Elder Statesmen of the sport?

I think the biggest influence was that Alysa's father, a dissident immigrant from China in the 1990s, was a big Kwan fan. Alysa's earliest coaches were at one time associates-students of of Michelle's coach Frank Carroll.

Thanks for your videos.

Hope you've had a good time. Crowd turnout was only modest, but there were some loud factions cheering for their stars :-)
There weren't that many soft toys and small presents thrown on the ice? Your gifts made it into the hands of your idols? You've met the Visitors from the Future that came from this mysterious place far away named Khrustalniy?

I was just a little disappointed with the arena. The first rows were so high up and back from the boarding you could only watch the skaters from above even if you'd secured a front row seat. Normally, TV camera's allow you to look the skaters directly in the eyes, but here in Zagreb camera work was often less than stellar.
Still, I am glad we've got complete and free coverage, plus all of the fan made videos, so in the end we get a complete picture of this exciting events and a glimpse into the future of figure skating.
