2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I actually prefer it like this, because almost always I hate how costumes look on a mannequin. So, looking forward to it!

The reasoning of Tutberidze and Ryabenko over the choice of colours is interesting. The ice is so white and very well lit in most competitions, light pastel colours hardly have the desired effect against the flesh toned tights and body stockings that extend to cover the arms. But in the colourful, playful and often dim lights of a gala show, those light colours might even go completely unnoticed or look downright ugly and clashing.
Hence the abundance of bright colours, like the rich rose/blood reds, royal blue (which often looks particulary good), Prussian blue and pinks/purples. Only little greens, and almost no orange/yellows.

PS: I really like the ice this bright white, and most LOC's provide it for their competition. Sometimes however, you still see very dirty ice full of cracks and blotches, which makes any costume look bad.

Excuse my ignorance. What kimono mistake?

The way the kimono was closed over Anna, it should be folded to the right side. Anna has wrapped hers the other way round and opened it to the left IIRC.
Ryabeno has altered the kimono after JPN fans pointed it out to her.

Ryabenko was also quite dissappointed with the TV coverage, the kimono was there for the geisha effect with Anna advancing with her arms folded over her chest and taking those very small steps forwards. The camera completely ignored this important entrance.

In the Krasnodar show, hopefully any TV crew will be properly instructed. Tutberidze will see to that as it is 'her' show, she is probably part of the direction and she is not be messed with I think ;-)
I wouldn't be surprised if some JPN TV broadcaster will purchase the rights, or perhaps offer to take the whole show to Japan?

PS, is Ryabenko also the designer and creator of Tina's dresses, matching those of her master Aleksandra Trusova?

Yes, Ryabenko does all Tina's matching dresses, booties and jump suits

The skaters are fortunate with their private designer, those dresses look like 'couture designer pour les jeunes patinagistes artistiques' for sure. In those photos with the original article, the girls just radiate with pleasure over their outfits.
Glad to know the JWC gala wasn't their one off appearance, when the girls don't fill out too much over the summer holidays, their dresses will probably still fit them for their first couple of GP gala appearances and other occasions.

The way the kimono was closed over Anna, the proper way should be right over left. Anna has wrapped hers the other way round and opened it to the left IIRC.

The front of kimono has two fabric shapped like "y". You meant to put the left side over the right. Anna has right side over left, which is used when dressing a dead body.

OK, thanks for explanation.

I believe camera crew will consist of professionals in Krasnodar, at least I didn't have any problems with camera angles and zooms in russian events, even such channels like YuTV have good shots with their limited sources.

But why have three girls when you can have four? There is room on the JGP for all of them next season along with Vasilieva, Tarakanova, and Sinitsyna. We will see what happens at Elders but no one else really stepped up at nationals.

Also, Maya Khromykh is not that good on anything other than the jumps and Daria Usacheva hasn’t skated clean in who knows how long. I can easily see Kanysheva being Eteri’s #2 junior behind Valieva.

Khromykh has excellent elements and others a bit questionable: the packaging is really good, i like her extension and the spins (but she is also scary thin), jumps she has an excellent axel technique, great height and distance, to the point i can totally see her jumping 3a, the 3f is fine, but the body position in the 3ltz-3t is weird, you can see she is already turning on the ice before the take off. (not that the jump is underrotated, but prerotation is there)

I was very surprised that behind this effort there is just Olga Ryabenko, who works from her home :-) The outfits are so exquisite and there is so much thought into them, that I thought it is a big company, not just Olga and Eteri (with ideas). Here is an old, long interview, sorry if it has already been posted. Regarding Tina's costumes, I think Olga has a soft spot for Sasha, but who doesn't?

Yes, I believe Khromykh has potential and she has improved on her lines a lot as she’s very lanky (I look similar to her so I know the struggle) but I agree the 3Lz+3T and other things need some working on. I think Kamila needs to work on that weird hitch between her 3Lz+3T. Anyway, next season they will all be 13 and Kanysheva the only 14 year old, so it wouldn’t hurt if she became a part of the group
