2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Has the poster forgotten national and world champion Debbie Tomas.

I hate to say it, but I think only we passionate skating fans remember her. She is now sadly a pity case from “fix your life” show.

........

I’ve put this off long enough. When are we going to start talking about injury prevention?

I think injury is not talked about as the skaters pursue bigger jumps with more rotations. I think the skaters and coaches know that if they're ever going to compete with Russian and Japanese skaters, they need the big jumps. Alysa is a perfect example.

The problem is, Starr unfortunately has many problems with her skating.☹️ Weak SS and transitions. Trouble with both flip and lutz. Weak choreography. All of this is true, unfortunately. She needs to switch coaches or at least choreographers but idk if she can.

It need to be discussed immediately. No plans should be made going forward without making that a priority. Think about this, this is the first time in a long time that we've had only 3 groups at nationals. We had several ladies with byes drop out before the competition and only one without an injury related reason. Emmy Ma last her entire fall season because of injury. Hanna lost a chance of a JGP medal because she was injured. I followed many girls, and the bulk of them quit because of injuries. We won't have a huge supply of skaters, so injuries are incredibly damaging to the numbers that we have and their progress.

I don't like seeing skating in any discipline get injured. I strongly feel if coaching techniques were taught and maybe certain practices were examined and banned, US skating would be better for it. ISU as well. It's obvious there's a lack of oversight if Ashley And Tim were allowed to finish their program after that horrific fall or Yuzuru was allowed to skate on that ankle.

I cannot believe the level of irresponsibility is happening.

I'm not very aware about how the changing nationalities/feds "game" works in figure skating.

Can someone please explain why would someone like Alexia Paganini change the US fed for the Swiss fed? I mean, why would you give up on a more powerful fed, as long as it's pretty clear you would be at least top 3 in that nation anyway? Even more, she lives and was born in the US anyway, so it's obviously not about changing for her "true" nationality or something.

Ohhhhhhh......

I've followed Alexia since she was 10. After what USFS put her through, good for her for leaving them! I've had a bone to pic with them about this for a long time. She was the only intermediate with two triples, but she she lost to a massive amount to Tessa Hong who only had double axels and a underrotated triple Salchow. She was the first novice to land a triple triple combo, she lost massively to another artist with no triple triple. She got the memo finally that USFS (at the time) preferred artistic princesses over jumping beans like her. So she stopped training her quad sal, stopped increasing the difficulty of her programs and worked on being more a princess type skater. That blew up in her face, since the judges once again ignored her "improvements" and put her in fifth at juniors.

Her dad is Swiss and Switzerland has few good skaters. Thanks to the switch, she's gone to the Olympics, Worlds, Europeans, got two GP slots, and lots of trips all over the world. That never would've happened in the US.

I think a lot of people are upset because she seems so good and we seem to be lacking. But that's an illusion. Lexi still has a low BV in her FS, which is keep her off the podium unless she can add her flip and another triple triple. Bradie and Mariah are both better than her.

But I like this for her. She gets to develop at her own pace with her own style. No more trying to conform to what the fed believes you should be. Switzerland gives her free rein to develop as an athlete. I know if she was still representing the US, she'd be struggling. And everyone would be belittling everything about her.

Just let her go. If Nationals is any indication, we'll be fine.

She changed to the Swiss fed because she basically has no competition for Worlds and other big events skating for them. She has already gone to the Olympics which wouldn't have happened in a more competitive country like the US.

Has the poster forgotten national and world champion Debi Thomas.

Kids these days do not even know who Tonya Harding is, let alone Debi Thomas. I can tell there are some figure skating fans in the Little Caesar’s arena. Got into a conversation with some arena staff about Debi Thomas.

Not necessarily. However, it will help to fight against Eteri’s upcoming Juniors who might or might not have Quads.

We were told at the FOFS brunch that Alysa has a quad. How consistent it is I have no idea. Might mean she’s landed it in practice one time.

Good enough to try at Regionals at least. She went for the 4Lz twice, and fell after popping the first one.

Thanks! I don’t have time to watch regionals. I’m just about 2 weeks behind in all sports except US Nationals atm.

It's only this year that you can watch it. Before you had to be a Icenetwork subscriber. I normally follow along with live scoring and find a video of I can.

Why would anyone imply that Karen is done or in the same camp as people like Polina or Courtney Hicks? She seems to be very serious about training and with some of the "better" coaches in the US (despite their flaws) plus she has lots of natural talent and is still quite young.

I’ve been an IceNetwork subscriber for years. Going back to when it was $20.
