2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

[ Is there already a thread for this??]

There are gonna be SO MANY inner-country battles this season I can’t wait!!!! Like:

1) Karen vs. Bradie. The federation loves Karen. Adores her. They’d put her first above Bradie if she’d just be consistent.

2) Alina vs. Evgenia. Nothing more to say.

3) Elena vs. Polina vs. Maria. Who is the coach’s fave?

4) Laurine vs. Mae

And so on...

This could be an interesting topic, but you might want to start a new thread - this one is just for US ladies, and 3 of your 4 battles are between non-US ladies. :)

Hard disagree. USFS has pushed Karen pretty hard for the past two years, but her Olympic performances + the Worlds withdrawal + rather public issues with the boot company (not that that was in any Karen's fault, but USFS can't be happy about it either way) has probably made Bradie the clear #1, without question.

Do we know what Karen's current coaching situation is at this point?

I think so, too. It's one thing for the USFSA to go with Karen over Ashley, but that was a matter of choosing between two inconsistent (at least last season) performers and going with one who showed the ability to land 3-3's. With Bradie, if it's close I think the USFSA will go with Bradie if she's the more consistent one throughout the season.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this, but is there any way to buy discounted Four Continents tickets? I wanted to go this year, but I saw their least expensive tickets were still like $400. I love figure skating, but I also love paying the rent.

....and at Nationals, we can't forget about Alysa!

WE have Alysa and we just need to wait and see because we don't know how Gracie's coming back, but if she can regain her form, she's one to take back a title. I realize that is all conjecture at this point, but it could happen. Did Ashley confirm she's out for the year, or just out for the GP? She could be back for Nationals.

What about Tyler Pierce? She hasn’t been heard from for a while now, but if she came back she could probably be a strong skater for USA

I know social media isn’t all of skaters lives, but Tyler doesn’t post much about skating at all.

I know hannah Miller has been working on jumps and she has success at the junior level. I’d love to see that translate to senior success.

Hannah has chronic URs that are somewhat more chronic than the usual offenders (Karen, Mirai, Ashley), and given that she is with Tammy Gambill (who hasn't helped Karen's URs after many years), I don't have high hopes. (Sorry for being a negative nancy.)

It would be nice to see Tyler Pierce make a surprisingly strong comeback post-injury, a la Bradie, but it seems like we just don't know if that's what she wants to do.

Of the current crop of US ladies who have yet to make an international splash at the senior level, it seems like only Amber Glenn has been trying to follow Bradie's example by competing at smaller competitions throughout the summer. It's nice to see her back out there after her disappointing GP debut last season.

LOL you remind me of someone.

PS: Agreed.

FWIW, there's chatter that Hannah is actually working with Alex O. Somebody saw her there. Not sure if it's a temporary or permanent arrangement.

Now that sounds more promising!

Wish we could know if Karen has switched to him or not, or what's going on with her coaching situation, period. Her UR jumps are not as chronic as others - the main issue is on her 3-3.

You know the USFSA is praying to TPTB that Alysa stays healthy and that her jumps grow along with her. If she's competing seniors this year and goes out and nails it the way she has been so far this summer I wouldn't be shocked if she's placed above both Bradie and Karen. She's too young to go to worlds so the team would still be Bradie/Karen but it sends a message...

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of younger/fresh face skaters in the top 5 this year (e.g. Alysu Liu, Ting Cui, Audrey Shin, Pooja Kalyan, Hanna Harrell, etc.). I'm actually crossing my fingers for it TBH. I'm ready for the next generation to take over for the US women. I feel like Bradie is a guarantee for the podium (if there is such a thing, which there isn't, but whatever...) and everyone else is a question mark. I could totally see some of the younger girls stepping it up and putting pressure on the veterans to deliver. It could be like 2008 when a bunch of age ineligibles took over the podium.
