2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Thanks for sharing. So happy for Pooja!

Congrats to Pooja! The girls coming up out of Junior Nationals aren't messing around. A good summer season for Alysa, Hannah, & Pooja thus far. Look forward to seeing them gain in international experience this year. Looks like they are earning their way there.

Gahhhh I wish we had protocols for these smaller events. Dying to know what Pooja's technical content was like. I believe she had a 3T-3T last year, but considering she trains with Alex O., I'm looking forward to a 3Lz-3T or 3F-3T (Gracie did both when she trained under him) in her future.

Maybe with some parents, but I don't see this with the top girls. The girls I know at the top are homeschooled and skating in rigorous programs with tough coaches. They have big goals and are training in environments to bring them the furthest. The sacrifices and costs the parents give to get their kids to where they're at are significant, and I couldn't imagine them turning down an offer to compete internationally and get a step further to achieving their dreams and all they have worked so hard for.

This is true- i knew a few high level juniors who attended private school

And I want results for Skate Detroit as well! All the protocols, please!

Anyone know the competitor list for Glacier Falls? It's gonna start this week but I haven't seen any thread for it in the summer comps yet and the website doesn't help much either.

Some groups have been posted for Philadelphia Summer Championships.
I see (so far??) only non-senior ladies for PSC. (And see nothing for Philadelphia Summer International.)

On the Novice Ladies lists, the names of Ava Raiter and Emily Zhang caught my eye. Sorry that so many other names are not recognizable to me.

ETA: Isabeau Levito is on the Intermediate Ladies lists.

What happened to Violeta? She was either 2nd or 3rd at Novice Nationals last year. I have not heard anything about her this year.

Violeta is listed above for PSC. Junior Ladies Group B.

... But I did want to chime in that not all "top" skaters are homeschooled. Jason Brown is one example of a skater who went to public school and whose parents refused to allow him to go to Colorado to train before he graduated high school. ...

I realize he may be the exception that proves the rule. But, to state the obvious, not all skating parents have the same priorities or the same ideas of how to get there.:)

The Aaron family also made a point of no home-schooling for their elite skaters.

Max and Maddie Aaron attended and graduated from public high school.
Same for Molly Aaron, I believe.

JGP Slovakia Entries are up:

Pooja KALYAN
Maxine BAUTISTA
Emma COPPESS
Ting CUI
Hanna HARRELL
Angelina HUANG
Gabriella IZZO
Sarah JUNG
Ashley LIN
Akari NAKAHARA
Kaitlyn NGUYEN
Jenna SHI
Audrey SHIN

Excited that Pooja has been given the initial assignment. The rest are subs. What happened to Emmy? She's still 17...

Here's the non-JGP left on the USFS international selection pool
Starr Andrews -SkAM
Mariah Bell - SC/NHK
Karen Chen - FIN/RC
Amber Glenn
Gracie Gold - RC
Courtney Hicks - NHK
Emmy Ma
Brynne McIsaac
Hannah Miller
Mirai Nagasu - not competing on GP
Bradie Tennell - SKAM/IdF
Ashley Wagner - not competing on GP
Angela Wang - NHK

I'm guessing that those who don't have GPs or aren't on the JGP subs list will get senior B assignments.

It's also worth noting that they've removed the following from the ISP since preliminary list was released in April
Caroline Zhang
Beverly Zhu

And they added the following:
Megan Wessenberg

What could be the significance behind removing Caroline and Beverly? Could Caroline have advised USFS that she is not competing this season, perhaps?

Thanks so much for the info!!

I can’t wait for entries for the US International Classic. Who’ll be battling Satoko? I think 4 US ladies go to US Classic?

Based solely on personal observations, and I am certain there are plenty of observations to the contrary - experienced skaters who no longer appear in the ISP are frequently finished with their competitive international career. At a minimum, it's just as you described, the skater is not competing "this season." Time will tell is the typical answer.
Younger skaters, however, sometimes remove themselves because they wish to be eligible to skate for another country. eg., Paganini, last season. Or sometimes the skater is addressing another pressing matter, often health, but that typically results in being left in the ISP but not competing internationally.
Regardless, an interesting update to the ISP.

I meant Emmy on the JGP. Wouldn't the US still want her to compete on the JGP because she's (maybe) one of the stronger juniors, especially in the earlier parts of the season? RIP Nats... Overall, she was the highest ranking US lady on the JGP circuit last season, even medalling at Latvia.

I'm guessing that given the limited JGP spots (and it's very unlikely they will get any extra spots cause RUS/JPN/KOR are going to use all their spots), they're opting to encourage those JGP folks with experience to move up to seniors internationally to give those, like Pooja, who don't have a lot of JGP experience (or to get more ladies to get junior qualifying scores for Jr. Worlds).

Thanks for posting the list! But dang what a transition year this is. This will be the first time I go to Glacier Falls without seeing Jason Brown skate :sad4: Actually I'm shocked with how few men there are period. But I'm stoked to see Angela Wang, Alysa Liu, and the other talented youngins that will make me feel old as heck.

Emmy got a 172 last year it’s possible that she get a GP spot when others drop out. In the meantime she can do CS and get some experience at the senior level.

And ... now Senior entries for Philadelphia Summer Championships have been added to the listings on the event website. (Not for Philadelphia Summer International.)

Paige Rydberg is the one name for Senior Ladies that sticks out to me. (Sorry that other Senior Ladies names do not really ring bells for me.)

Late yesterday (Thursday) Paige Rydberg tweeted that she is working hard on recovery from various health issues "that have interfered with my training and everyday life" over the last four months.

"... I have not been able to skate consistently enough to prepare for the first few competitions this year …"

Sending hugs to Paige. :ghug:
