As a fan of Alysa, I will add that she is super-active on Instagram (and perhaps other social media) -- so comments and videos offered directly by Alysa are partly why she has been the focus of so much attention.
FWIW, happy to say that some of her recent comments on Instagram story suggest to me that she is quite level-headed and is not getting ahead of herself:
Someone asked her about her goal(s) for this season, and IIRC, her reply was top ten at Nationals as a senior lady. (Not a direct quote, but that was the gist.)
In response to a question about when she will be going to the Olympics, she said something along the lines of (I'm paraphrasing) that the Olympics do not get handed to you on a platter … and that she hoped for 2022.
Reasonable answers in both cases, IMO.

Occurs to me that I do not recall for sure the year of the future Olympics to which Alysa said she aspired. I think she said 2022 … but maybe she said 2026(?).

Belatedly am seeing that Lynn Rutherford reported from the Ice Dreams show a week ago that both Alysa and Starr have the Nats podium as a goal this season.

:agree: Off topic for this thread, but yes, Savary is of high interest for me too.
(Along with many other enjoyable/worthy U.S. men.
Max :luv17: was/is in a league of his own as my all-time favorite, but I easily have at least ten other favorites among U.S. men who still are competing.)

1. Believe it or not, I understand different strokes for different folks. As an old joke once went, ”Grandpa once said to me, we can’t all like the same thing, if we did everyone would be after your grandma”. I obviously do not prize jumps qua jumps, but others might. And if that’s what you want to watch, I think that’s great. Truly. This has nothing to do with the type of skater I enjoy watching.
So what I disagree with is not “I loooovee Alysia’s jumps”. Fine and dandy. That’s cool:cool14:
2. What I disagree with is using her jumping skills to “shame” older skaters. “Look out world, and you old ladies who can’t do anything, here she comes, and won’t you be sorry”

And the comments on the men’s thread probably have influenced me, in that I find *any* “Look out you old washed up has-been, here comes a skater with jumps that haven’t even been invented yet. Stand aside.”

3. I also disagree with using that same tone to uphold a 12 year old as a world beater, the hope of US ladies’ figure skating, she who will leave all others in the dust and out of the Kwanless desert. She is 12. Twelve.

Yeah, I didn’t go into detail because this is the ladies thread. My point really was that being excited about a skater you like is fine; saying that someone is stupid if they don’t agree with you or putting other skaters down isn’t.

I think I like it more for dance than singles. It’s very smooth and expressive. But jumps have a staccato feeling that interrupt the flow. They need to melt into the piece.

YAY INDI!! She is seriously so polished and so promising. I hope she performs well here!! Ofc also great to see Alysa and Starr.
Indi won Intermediate Nationals last year.
The first of 3 NA Series stops was last weekend at Skate Milwaukee. Six of last year's Intermediate ladies from Nationals were invited to participate. Based on the posted results, Indi came in 4th of the US ladies. Anyone know what happened there?
I was actually surprised that Indi got this assignment - I would have thought that one of the others who finished higher last weekend would have gotten the spot.
Very smart of USFS to send both Ashley Lin and Gabrielle Izzo to Asian Open. Ashley can start prepping for her junior program early and Gabriella can get her feet wet.

I don't know what she did at NA challenge but I know it wasn't her best skates. I assume she was granted the opportunity because of nationals.
That was my assumption as well.
When I saw all of the US ladies scores, they all looked low (20+ points lower than their other summer competition scores). My thought was a lot of triples were called for under-rotations. But no protocols were posted so that is my guess.
Rules for novice in the US is different for international novice. We have a bonus system that gives extra points for doing triples and more for triple triples. We also have the 2nd half bonus, which international novice does not. It’s no surprising the scores dips so much.
I think it is nice that they are sending three advanced novice ladies to the Asian Open. Last year, they sent only Alysa. USFS must have decided it was beneficial. (I would agree). Japan & Korea have been sending some pretty top young athletes. And nice to see these young athletes getting international feedback early in the season when they still have time to work on their programs.
