Weren’t her coaches in Colorado Springs Christy Krall and Damon Allen? Their skaters are usually packaged pretty well and their technique is usually solid as well.

I wouldn't call that a wide-open field. There's Mako, Sofia, and Eunsoo, who have all kicked off the season, medaled at their events, and are very much competitive.

Gracie is supposed to do two competitive programs in less than two weeks. Is there any videos anywhere of her practice? If there is none, the lack of it would be a concern. Has she competed in any local or regional competitions, or did any exhibitions? For anyone to have a real comeback, she/he should do some other competitions, just to get a feel of competition again. Polina Edmunds did a Challenger last year, even when she was not really ready and was still in the process of getting her jumps back.
So I don't expect too much from Gracie, other than skating two programs in full. Honestly, I would not be surprised if she withdraws last minute. If she is not ready for competition, I don't know which is worse or better: withdraw or show a poor performance. Hope she proves me wrong though.

Yup. She's with Ravi Walia now, who as we know is Osmond's coach. Ravi was able to bring out the performer in Osmond, and get her to commit to the performance no matter how it's going. I saw shades of that in Angela's SP, but she looks so nervous. Hopefully he can bring out the best in her projection and performance abilities, but her technique needs finessing first.
There are no videos. No competitions at all. She’s going into this event cold. I don’t expect anything at all. It’s foolhardy to think she’s be back at 2016 level or even 2017 level this soon. My hope and prayer is that she takes this result in stride and realize it’s just the beginning of her own personal comeback. It’s not about the scores or placement, it’s all about her having the strength to get out there again. So I’ll be cheering regardless of what she puts on the ice.

i dont think gracie can do 3-3 yet, but maybe 2A+3T? idk if she regain her 3Lz/3F though? i hope she did not do doubles except 2A. i hope the best for her comeback! Also good luck to Bell in NHK. Its a strong field with 3 strong japanese + Liza + Eunsoo too. rather than good placement i hope she can have good score that guarantee top 24 SB this season!

agreed. I hope Bell makes a 200+ score. That would really be a statement. She can do it, she's capable.

Also agree about Gracie. I hope she has no planned doubles minus 2a but I am not sure of the current state of her triples. I seriously doubt she will withdraw though for an array of reasons.

Having seen the judging through the first half of the GP, I’m thinking we’re gonna see some changes by nationals.
For example, I think Bradie will do 3lz3t in the short so she can score better since her 3t is probably less likely to be called underrotated (and I’ve never seen her pop it). If she had done that at skate America and well enough to earn a slight positive GOE, she would have been on the podium.
This might be a bold prediction but my top 5 at nationals: Tennell, Bell, Wessenberg, Cui, Chen.
I don’t see Liu placing higher than 6th due to PCS, underrotated jumps and popped 3A/4lz. That said, I think she’ll be right behind them and will get valuable experience and feedback ahead of her 1st JGP season.
I think the National champ should go to worlds then the next 3 eligible skaters all go to 4CC and the highest finisher there gets the 2nd spot.

But Liu ahead of Cui? Neither will get senior PCS but Ting has struggled so far :sad4: most recently falling 3 times. I want to see her do well but my top 5 at this point is Tennell, Liu, Bell, Cui, and Chen. That said, if she's solid she could be right up there.

The National Champ will want to go to 4CC, and those WS points will be important for starting group.

If Liu hits, then she could totally be top 5. If she’s gonna replace anyone, I’d say Chen because she hasn’t competed at all yet, and with her injuries and history of boot problems, she might not be able to put it all together. Or she could be perfect. Cui will have had more time with her new coaches with only having to go to sectionals (which really should not be a problem).

Forgot about that. Plus it’s in the US, so much less travel time. Still, I think world team should be decided after 4CC
That was a difficult thing to watch. And yet, I think Ting Cui is the best US skater, or at least the best hope for the immediate future. If she skates well, I believe she could beat Bradie. She has the goods. Realistically, I believe she will be 2nd to Bradie at nationals. I have high hopes for her future.
I don't totally agree. I think Ting Cui is the US skater with the best potential. She has the technical ability and lovely performance qualities. The most important thing that Ting has on her side are the judges. The international judges definitely want to give Ting the PCS as seen in both of her JGP events: in JGP Austria her SP & FS had the 3rd highest PCS, in JGP Ostrava she was ranked 2nd in PCS in the SP and 3rd in her disastrous FS.
I am glad the fed 1. gave her two JGP events 2. is sending her to Tallin. I believe they recognize her potential and the fact that she needs more international competitive experience. I worry she might be another head case as the US always has a ton of ladies with great potential who never seem to be able to put it together on the senior circuit.

Watched Angela Wang's both programs and I think her problem goes much deeper than "nerves." To me most of her jumps lack the height they need; with the successful ones, they looked very tight and borderline. I noticed she has a long torso and is pretty tall. I don't know if that poses problem for a skater to jump high enough. I doubt she can do a much better job even without any pressure.

I can't imagine that Gracie would skate at a GP without being able to do the harder triples, especially since her lutz was one of her most consistent jumps. If she were only doing doubles at the moment, the GP would not be appropriate events to compete in.
