2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Longing to see Hanna and Ting in practice, they’re the best junior team we’ve sent in ages! But both are inconsistent......

Yeah, they could either both be solidly in top 6/8 or both completely bomb. I like Ting's skating a lot and Hanna's as well. I look forward to watching them and hope for the former to be true, rather than the latter:)

Most certainly by next year Bradie will not have the PCs advantage over 3A. I expect scherbakova and kostornaya to both be +35 and +70 by next year and trusova to be +33 and +66 at least.

The 3A will certainly improve in PCS between now and next year, but I don't think we should assume that Bradie won't also improve. Look at her improvement between last year and this year.

I'd imagine Kostornaia will be directly competitive with Zagitova in terms of PCS if not ahead of her come next year. Honestly I'd put her over Zagitova quite a bit right now. Scherbakova is under Kostornaia but not by too much. Trusova tends to be the lowest in PCS but her TES is often the highest. These three girls are about to change the game.

I hate to say it but this is the year Bradie (and just about everyone) needs to pull off a miracle and try to get to the podium. If it seems like an insurmountable task this year it will be a snowball's chance in hell come next year with Triple A in the mix. Out of the 3 of them I feel like at least 1 will be on every podium for the next few years.

I imagine next year they will be unshakeable and occupy all the worlds and gpf podium spots, as they are doing in junior BUT I think the real test will be the following year. Anya S.'s technique is a LOT like Yulia's with a bit more height on the jumps. I think she could really be put out of the mix in the next coupl years (Though I wish the best for her). Sasha's 4ltz... I can't see as sustainable... but I also have a hard time seeing her triples disenegrate, as they are pretty solid. She may/probably will become semi-beatable within two years time though. Kostornaia has the most staying and dominating power as far as I can see. God forbid an injury were to occur, I can see her being the mainstay.

A great quote from Hanna Harrell in a recent article: “I just really want to be able to do one of those difficult jumps not everyone can do, so I can always be in the top. I want them to be like, 'Oh, it's Hanna Harrell, with this jump or this skill.' I can't just be ordinary.”

Good luck to both Hanna and Ting at Junior Worlds tomorrow.

Ting did a wonderful job, she fought for everything today. she really has it all and could be the top US lady one day.

And so did Hanna!

ETA: Our two girls made the final flight! Ting is in 3rd place after SP; Hanna is in 5th!

Impressive technique. And, they both skated with musical connection and heart. I also love both their double-Rippon 3L-3T!

Ting and Hanna are going to be in the final flight for the FS at Junior Worlds! Not sure how many people predicted THAT, but congrats, girls! :agree:

Im so happy. But literally will hold my breath until after her freeskate. I hope this competition will be a mental breakthrough for her where she skates TWO clean programs.

They really brought their A-game, very proud to watch them! If the results are similar tomorrow will the USA get 3 spots for next year?

OMG! Top five at JR Worlds - three Russians, and our Ting and Hanna! Incredible!

:agree: But also: Ting's terrific SP has earned her an ISU Championship small bronze medal, which is an accomplishment unto itself.

Soooo happy for her. I got teary :sad4: (in a good way) for her during her performance.

Congratulations to Ting and to Hanna. :yay:

ETA:
I stupidly forgot :hopelessness: to wish them good luck in the FS. Go, Ting and Hanna. :hap85:

So we might actually get max spots back for the JGP next year

That would make me very happy. I'd take more JGP spots over three spots for worlds personally.

Hanna needs work on speed and skating skills otherwise the jumps will only do so much for her scores.

Just for the heck of it: This season SP average PCS in international competitions

Bradie: 32.03

Alena Kostornaya: 31.23

I highly doubt there will be a PCS advantage because Bradie's two highest PCS scores this season came from competitions in the US, Skate America and 4CC. Sasha may be slightly behind in PCS but her technical content is so high I am not sure if it will matter.

I just can't read about "PCS advantage in international competitions" with a straight face, given how ridiculously rotten the whole system seems to be.

Until the biased judging is fixed, there's very little point in comparing scores.

It's unlikely we'd see any coming to Jesus by ISU judges next season, so the "competitive advantage in PCS" (and "GOEs" LOL) will continue to be a rather arbitrary metric that often has little to do with reality.
