2018-2019 GP Assignments

I can see why ISU would that, he is irreplaceable after all. There could be backlash if they do.

I don't think so. There was an initial (incorrect) rumour that the spot Brendan got at Rostelecom was Denis' (it was actually Zandron's) and most Denis fans I saw were quite supportive and pleased with the idea. Now whether that was because Brendan, like Denis, is a little country skater, or they approved the general idea of replacing him, I'm not sure.

Juulia Turkkila/Matthias Versluis got the Finnish host pick in Ice Dance

T/V, Virtanen and Lindfors have been added on ISU event page, but still non on the grids

Still a FINTBA in Ladies. Peltonen is skating, I've just seen her on one of the latest Sondre Boe's IG Stories from a Berlin rink

Allison REED / Saulius AMBRULEVICIUS and Misato KOMATSUBARA / Tim KOLETO added to Rostelecom replacing Garabedian/Proulx Senecal and Muramoto/Reed

Julian Zhi Jie YEE added to Rostelecon to cover Denis Ten's spot

Oh this is getting ridiculous. I like Julian, a lot of people here like Julian, but I doubt that RusFed likes him so much that they just HAD to pick from the bottom of the substitute list.

Maybe they picked him because, like Denis, he is a little-country skater and a trailblazer for figure skating in his country.

Doesn´t Julian have a very popular program, I guess invitations are most about politics and popularity. Probably his federation pushed for him. Good for him.

There is definitely an ISU priority on profiling and giving opportunities to skaters from new regions.

Julian was Malaysia's first winter Olympian, and has brought a lot of profile and interest to skating in SE Asia outside of Japan and China.

His participation in the GP events may generate more ongoing interest and attract new fans.

It's important for successful small country skaters to be given opportunities when they are available to build the base for the sport.

Komatsubara & Koleto also were not at the top 10 list. So it seems in the end, as usual, the feds do what they please with the replacements.

Denis was definitely a role model for Julian. I'm not sure if there is a more fitting skater to invite than Julian in this case. I will link back to my post with Julian's tribute to Denis from a month ago:

I will add Julian Yee's tribute here since I don't think it has been posted. Julian, like Denis when he first started, came from a country where figure skating training facilities were practically non-existent. Both of them are pioneers of the sport in their respective countries. He and his former Malaysian coach watched videos from the top competitors for training, and Denis was definitely a role model for him. He resonates with our sentiment: "He will be remembered forever and never forgotten."

Godo for the skaters who got 2 assignments, but are we seriously pretetnding that the isu pushed for assignments to small fed skaters out of the goodness of their hearts? It's just the feds of the gp countries conveniently selecting least competition for their home skaters as possible. What's the excuse of giving Chartrand and Reynolds 2nd gps over Lim and Cha? lol.

this has been said before... the top competitors have already been selected a long time ago ;) the extras, sometimes may bring a surprise.. but usually no matter who will be picked, won't change much the top 3 results
and i beg to differ : Kevin Vs Cha... I wouldn't be so quick to say that Cha automatically wins this battle. Cha is a great talent but I don't think he is a contender yet... soon yes, but when, I don't know.
