And some of those Russian male dancers will be too old to compete in Juniors next season, so they can clean up in the JGP between them. I still have a soft spot for Gropman & Somerville too. But on first viewing of the Greens programs this season, they lack the magic of Avonley & Vadym.
There will be other Russian teams who will be competitive. U/N can stay in juniors if they want. Then there's Shanaeva/Naryzhnyy who had silver at their first event, Ivanenko/Karpov who I didn't find super interesting but they score pretty well, Davis/Smolkin... There were a couple teams who I thought were quite strong but didn't even make the JGP as well. For example Tyutyunina/Shustitskiy were better than Davis/Smolkin in a domestic competition or two, and D/S got a bronze.
So I'm sure the JGP next year won't just be between the two Americans - especially since teams can improve so fast at this level (just like N/K).
