There really is a bumper dose of travelling to the 1980's today, because as well as the GP Final starting and finishing with Short Dance segments, Day 3 of the Golden Spin also starts with a Short Dance segment.

Great results in the RD for Z/K (Emilea/ Vadym) and F/D (Bella/ Vanya)! Yay!

Nice also for R/A (Allison & Saulius), but not unexpected in this field. Soucisse/ Firus did not place well, so far, but they haven't competed in a long time post the country change. Some of these teams I'm not familiar with, so it's too bad there is no livestream.

Correction: S/F competed last week, as noted by @CaroLiza_fan. But that doesn't appear to have made a positive difference to S/F being in tiptop competitive form. Because of S/F's prior background and experience, I thought they would fare better in the standings. Perhaps they will move up in the FD.

Yes, it has indeed been a very long time since they competed.

Their last competition was the Bosphorus Cup last week.

They didn't do great in the Short then either. But, they were much better in the Free.

Thanks for letting me know that Soucisse/Firus competed so recently, prior to Golden Spin. When and where did they compete internationally prior to BosCup? Or, better yet, how long was their competitive layoff after switching countries and getting undue flack from Canadian fed?

I say 'undue' because I believe skaters should have greater freedom to explore other opportunities that might allow them the chance to receive major international assignments. It is not fair to skaters, nor helpful to the sport either when particular countries are so chock full in certain disciplines that opportunities for some talents to develop and prosper, are limited. This is a huge fault of the sport's antiquated competitive structure.

Exactly! They should use the model of other sports like tennis with Davis Cup and Federation Cup for country vs country competitions. Otherwise, it should just be about athletes vs athletes. Growth and change are desperately needed in figure skating, and in athletic sport, generally. Someone needs to start a separate organization for skaters to compete more freely and fully, if it's not going to happen under the antiquated ISU!
