As long as he doesn't get himself buried in the SP, he's the most likely to do what he can do at worlds. He seems to be the one who is least intimidated in the pressure cooker of competition when everyone around him is skating really well. He's proven this a few times, and again here.

I'm not sure missing the FS twice and finishing 16th last year at Worlds is standing up to the pressure.

I believe rain is referring to this year. Nam has made some changes in his life, and it seems to have affected his mindset a lot. He skated after the poohvalanch at Skate Canada and he used the energy in the building to his advantage.
 
I can't see them not sending Nam at this point. He did the best here, he was second at nationals and he was competitive at SCI.
Any of them could bomb their short. No one thought Kevin A. wouldn't make the long at Euros. The ice is slippery and disaster could happen. We just have to hope that Nam skates well and can earn us back 2 spots.
 
I think Nam deserves the spot at this point - he’s been much more consistent this season (has Keegan had one clean free skate this season?) and he’s beaten Keegan head to head twice on the trot now.
I am however sure that Keegan would be there to cheer on Nam - I loved how Nam came straight off the ice to hug Keegs before he even got to his coach, and their green room antics were hilarious.

Given what happened this year it would not be surprising if his heart was not in it. Selfishly I hope he chooses not to retire.

Also for his sake I would HATE for that to be his final competitive skate.
 
Looking at the season standings and scores, Nam is exactly 10th. Take Samarin out and he's 9th. It's doable, he can do it. My voice will most certainly be gone cheering for him.

Skating to a Beatles medley, Nguyen raised his arms in triumph after producing a clean program.

"I made a mistake on my triple Axel (he singled it) but otherwise I'm really happy with how I came back and pushed to the end," said Nguyen. "Having the crowd with me especially at the end during the step sequence, they really took me there."

Messing was unable to repeat his strong fourth place skate in the short program.

"I felt off physically," said Messing. "I don't feel I've been able to dedicate myself to my training as efficiently as I needed between nationals and here. It just wasn't enough time to prepare myself fully for this event. My legs always felt a little bit behind me."

For the 20-year-old Sadovsky it was all about gaining experience.

"The big thing I'm going to work on is my consistency," said Sadovsky. "The short was disappointing here, the long could have been better, but I'm not beating myself up too much about it."

A bit of an underwhelming free skate for all our pairs, but I'd say Evelyn & Trennt have earned that second Worlds spot. Michael's random fall was kind of hilarious, but the major concern I'd have for them is Kirsten's second consecutive Salchow pop (I imagine the second happened because she was thinking about the first); important to get out of that headspace for Worlds. But a bronze medal is a bronze medal, and hopefully this will mean they can peak at Worlds this year instead of at 4CC like last year.

Alicia has definitely earned her Worlds ticket.

sadly yes, because her skating is less than spectacular but she is the best of the worst. It wasn't along ago Chartrand was on top and you had Daleman and Osmond - oh those were the days. So long ago it seems but not really.

Is Gabby training??? I know that sounds like a joke but she probably could get to the fs.

He's 8th because Japan 3rd spot is Keiji Tanaka not Yuma. Nam definitely have the goods to bring back 2 spot. He just need to be clean-ish. Looking at Worlds the past few years to be Top 10 you need safely 245~250.

Maybe she could, but if she went to Worlds and had another disastrous FS like the one at Nationals, that could set her emotional recovery back yet another year. Let her take some time away from competitive skating and give her mind and body a chance to heal.

We are absolutely on the same page.

And, I'm going to be blunt to the point of perhaps hurting some feelings... but why does Canada need a second ladies spot at this point anyway?

Send whoever is healthy and has the minimums and is mostly likely to perform credibly. Come back with the same one spot you went with, and give everyone a chance to fight it out next year. Running your best skater into the ground would serve little purpose. But, hey, Canada, do what you've got to do. It's not like USA did the best thing either, IMO.

I said this once and got attacked. We don't need two spots. It definitely sucks, but when the time comes, and we have a skater capable of placing in the top 10, we'll get 2 spots back. Exact same thing happened in 2012, we only had one spot for 2013, and Kaetlyn was able to gain 2 back for the Olympics.

To me, it's not even about needing or not needing a second women's spot for next year...Daleman obviously is in no state to skate at this level or at all...if we keep on pushing her out there regardless, we are going to be completely void of any women being top level ready in a few years...Canada really has to do a better job growing young talent earlier especially the singles discipline...this is a problem in the men's too to a lesser extent...this is not so not really a problem in ice dance or pairs because they have longer careers and we have always had well trained pairs and ice dance teams...
