2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Stronger words are often used to compensate for the small numbers on that side. There is a saying "The weaker you are the louder you bark" :) I got the impression based on comments on video platforms, social media and the news outlets that Kamilla's SP was/is very well received by a majority of people. Including Diana Picasso was impressed with it. Those who frown upon it or the leg lifting are a minority. It's their opinion, I find it elegant and I embrace everything that is original or sets apart a certain skater from the rest of the crowd. It's not against the rules to lift your leg as much as you want on the ice. Other skaters are welcome to do it if they manage to look as gracefull as Kamilla.

There are two kinds of figure skating fans: the Purists, who value the patterns, "traditions" and believe that all programs should be strictly after a random, arbitrary model, either is about the placement or the order of the jumps, either is about the number of time a skater lifts her leg. And the Nonconformists, who appreciate the unconventional ideas, programs, choreos and enjoy eccentric approaches and rebellious ways.
Ah Georgya, you forgot the third type, "the opportunists", who just like to see everything nice that crosses their vision, "because, first off, that's beautiful" - there's a Russian joke about it, but I'm not sure if I'm at risk of being punished if I dare to reproduce it here :)

Looks like she's going for 4Lz, 4T3T, and 4T in the FS! Whoa.

Her 4T is looking so solid now, with that landing going right into the leap. She makes it all look so easy. (And that slow-mo shot of her spinning with her hair loose is just gorgeous.)

Those quads look really, really solid!

Strongest legs in the world, no doubt at all. Unstoppable, unbeatable, so powerful, so confident, nothing but superlatives. But of course she needs to skate clean and stay on her feet. But I can see nobody touching her at this age and stage in her career.

But I won't switch my avatar back to the Quadster riding her quad, this season I will root for Alyona :-)

O yeah, she should have been born just 7 days earlier :)
Yeah, but if you think about it, all 2007' girls are unlucky, when it comes to Olympic eligibility... ;)

1999 (Radionova), 2003 (Kostornaia), 2007 (Akatieva), 2011 - worst years to be born regarding future Olympic chances.

Sasha, can you stop scaring everyone with your quads!

Reminded me of this:

In another two years this meme will be about Sofia Akatieva.

Really, though, if she's two years short of being a junior and already doing 4T, 3A2T, and 3A plus two 3-3s in the back half, then what will her layout even be by the time she gets to juniors? Let alone seniors??

:rofl2:
this one's funny too :) Hasta la vista baby! https://www.instagram.com/p/B1xGiOSJxji/

Yeah... Sofia will be doing men's content by her first senior year.

LOL, but it is sort of scary, the ease with which she explodes into those quads. How many will she be able to throw in the free program? Three at least, one combo, one cascade? And her other 'gymnastics' elements are all of the highest amplitude. She really is Wonder Girl ;-)
In just one day we will be able to learn what new images have been staged for Aleksandra, and the whole world of figure skating waits with baited breath for their exposition.

I disagree with the notion that Samodelkina hasn’t progressed. It looks like she’s grown about 5-10cm from last season and her movement quality/projection looks better than ever. I’m sure she will add the 3A this season since the rest of her jumps are so solid and she will need it to compete against Akatieva. She stood up on one during competition warm up last season so we know she can do it. She was head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the group in PCS imo even though it only amounted to a couple of points. Just needs to work on her flip edge.

She shouldn't have been allowed to watch the whole GoT series though. Some selected scenes/compilation would give her enough clue. :confused2:
A lot of people her age have watched it so I think she is mature enough. I haven't watched it all, but I assume the problem is with violent scenes. Most 15 year olds are capable of understanding such content and I'm pretty sure her parents/coaches wouldn't let her watch the show if they didn't think that she could handle it.

I think she also improved her posture.

She has grown a great deal. Her long today was polished and everything done well, but for me, there was something missing. Maybe because she is tired of the program? I don't know. I felt nothing, and watching her, it didn't seem as if she felt anything either. It seemed as if she was just going through the motions. I was far more charmed by the little girl who skated to Russian Folk music (Maria? scored 180). I couldn't stop smiling during that program. But Sofia? Just didn't do it for me today, and last year she was one of my favorites.

Daria is amazing. Jumps, spins, ease across the ice, fluidity in movement, some understanding of music, beautiful lines, always tasteful movements. Music is pretty bad but she makes for a gorgeous performance. Couldn't ask for anything more from a junior skater

I really enjoyed both of Daria and Maya's performances today, and thought everyone (not just the two of them, but everyone else too) was a little underscored today, and that both of them might've made 70s in the previous two stages.

Daria has such a wonderful understanding of music for her age - or even if you don't consider her age. She adjusts her movements to the intensity of the music, it's a detail you don't consistently find in juniors and Daria just has it all already at only 13. She really commits to her music in everything other than facial expression, which she of course has time to work on. So gorgeous and fluid. Her musicality really made me feel bad for the other young girl in her group who skated to the exact same music.

Her extensions are so beautiful. Kamila clearly has the best extensions out of the three and I think the other two are a little overlooked because of it, but they both have incredible extensions and beautiful lines as well.

And Maya! She looks so much stronger than she was in Courchevel! She looks so much smoother and more graceful, her extensions were held beautifully and her lines are so pretty. I don't love this program but I love her skating. Much better than the first JGP stage.

Hopefully both of them can carry this into the free. Both were beautiful!

In yesterday’s dress she inreed looked taller. Today she seemed shrunken back somehow. She is buff, very athletic, so I hoped for some big skills. However not withstanding their absence, she skated really well and controlled, going for quality.

#TeamDavydov is clearly in the pursuit, but more effort is still needed to equal the leading team. The potential in quality girls is certainly there.
