2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Alena should do a program called "International Angel of Peace" because I don't think there's a FS fan in this world who is unhappy to see her win.

But what is this talk of Alina coming to Torino to see if she feels like competing? Honestly?

Rather focus on the brighter side. Aliona has risen the bar again, 247.59, what a score. And imagine that this is not the last stand. If Anna would land her 4F and Sasha was flawless, their score would be very similar. So we can expect possible increasing again soon.

Youthful Power Prevails, no other words, Tutberidze's Terrific Trio owned this Grand Prix from start to finish and had no reason to look back.

First 6OutOf6 Golds, now 3OutOf3 Medals. Has such an accomplishment by a single rink been achieved ever before? Khrustalniy is almost a federation in itself.

With the proper ranking order,
Angelic Alyona, Ambitious Anna, Athletic Aleksandra, meaning Anna in the middle has the proper mixture of powerful skills and artistry.

#TeamTurberidzeForProgress for ever !!!

Never before fans of Russian figure skating must have felt so proud, with the national anthem sung by this trio :-) Alyona also very smart in evading certain questions in the K&C interview, the girls have all been instructed well.

But where does this leave Alina? She again looked sad in the K&C, and the commentators suggested she has motivation problems. Which are understandable, but let's hope Alina doesn't give up. She is at the peak of her powers, and who knows what still lies dormant inside her, ready to be brought out when challenged?

I can‘t believe what I just watched. So many emotions, I‘m still shaking. Forgive me if the only thing on my mind right now is: ALIONA. :cheer:  :luv17:

Even though Anna was amazing as well. And Sasha was brave as usual. Next time it will work out, I have no doubt. I‘m sad for Alina, when she came onto the ice I had a feeling she would win the Bronze. But it wasn‘t meant to be. Nationals will be better.

(Now, the question is, though... will it be like last year? Aliona winning GPF, Anna Nats and Sasha Worlds? I hope not, primarily because that would mean Aliona was missing Worlds again because of injury. But their rivalry is definitely insane!)

I feel so bad for Alina [emoji24][emoji24][emoji24] and Rika bc I thought she would have placed higher [emoji51]
Even Sasha let me down slightly by losing to Anna but she tried her best, maybe next comp will be better for her
It's that naughty 4S that Sasha keeps on messing up, I wonder if she'll keep it in the programme or not 🤷*♀️
But congrats to Alyona and Anna!! I always love seeing Alyona win [emoji173]

Of the three competitions where the 3A girls competed against each other and all three were on the podium, they have now taken every possible place on podiums against each other. They each have one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Rusnats 2018: Anna, Sasha, Alena.
Junior Rusnats 2018: Sasha, Alena, Anna.
GPF 2019: Alena, Anna, Sasha.

They really are just taking turns, huh. "Mum says it's my turn on the gold!" "No, mine!" "No, you were gold last time!"

Well the commentators perhaps know more than we do, since they are there and do get more informations as we. I just Hope that this will not be the deciding factor for alina because this season she is starting to grow on me.

Congrats to all the medalists! Especially to my girl Aliona, I honestly didn't expect her to win after Sasha included 4F and 3A, but here we are. Sometimes playing it safe is a better solution, but I don't believe Sasha will change her layout as long as she has all her jumps.

Too bad for Alina, must be overwhelming to skate knowing that it will be very difficult to medal and nearly impossible to win. Her nerves reflected in both her elements and presentation, her actual technical ability played little role in the mistakes - she was much cleaner in practices. Alina still can make the Russian team, but she needs to deliver something similar to what she did at Japan Open.

Also, I think Aliona has overtaken her competitors in the race for highest components. Anna seems to be catching up with the top ladies as well. Sasha's components got a bit lower as she made mistakes and maybe because some of the choreo was taken out to include all the quads.

I don't understand how they (her team) would even say that publicly even if it were true.

Maybe now people will stop with the ridiculous theory that Anna should/could be sent to juniors as tribute!!!
I don’t think Anna was ever seriously considered for staying junior after she won the senior national championship. I do think there was talk of keeping Aliona in juniors after she was injured, missed junior worlds, and maybe didn’t show her true potential at test skates. Or maybe this was just talk to motivate her. Whatever the reasons it was discussed, it would surely have been a huge mistake as she demonstrated today. I’m hoping she wins it all this year! Love all the 3A but Aliona is my favorite.

I don't think so, just this wasn't her day, she didn't execute jumps well, most of the jumps were UR, one fall after first 2A (which was meant as 2A-3T, she again tried to save the combo in the second half by putting 3T to 3Lz). Something like the last year at nationals. At least all her spins and steps were lvl 4. Don't know whether those were nerves, she looked too - what would be the right word - "dark" maybe, from warm-up. As I've said, it's a pity because on trainings today everything was completely normal as usually.

I would compare it to the free skate of Boikova/Kozlovski yesterday, they also were somehow below their standards for unknown reason.
Thats too bad. But meddling was always going to be difficult for Alina because her incredible teammates were in great form. .

Almost 250 without a quad is incredible.

Well I am TOTALLY exhausted.

I screamed, I yelled, I laughed, I shouted and I cried.

Sasha - She is such a power house. She went for it. It didn't all work but I screamed out loud on that 4F. So another record for her. First woman to land that quad. She's such a good sport and seems happy with the bronze. Just wonderful.

Anna - Have to admit she is my favourite. I just think she's lovely. Was super nervous throughout her skate but so relieved it went pretty well. Darn that 4F though, Chris said it was overcooked and it certainly was! She could have landed it, and if so she might have won. Fantastic Anna.

Alena - I realise she must have nerves of steal. Going after the other two can't have been easy. Fantastic performance and a world record score. Absolutely fabulous. I liked the interview afterwards. Her English was the cutest thing.

Alina - this is when my heart broke. You could see right from the start that she really didn't want to be there. The look of desperation throughout the skate was painful to watch. Oh, I really feel for Alina. With a good skate here she could have left with her confidence in tact. Now I don't know. I'm saying it now and I hope you all won't get mad at me, but I suspect that she might even withdraw from nationals. I mean, where can she get the motivation? She knows she probably can't fight for the world team and it breaks my heart.

An extraordinary event for sure that will go into the history books.

And now off to Russian National Championships, which will be a battle for placements and assignements tougher than the following actual European or World Championships.

My guess is Tutberidze's Terrific Trio will be on the medal rostrum again. Do you really see the necessity of a 'lesser' skater being sent to Worlds if Tutberidze's Terrific Trio repeats? Europeans are going to be a walk in the park most likely, so the B Team will be sufficient. But who wants to be on that B Team?

I fully agree with you. Alina must face and come to terms with this new reality around her. I am fairly sure she gives her younger team mates their results and successes, and no Khrustalniy skater has ever pointed fingers at another. This just isn't in their character and upbringing, Khrustalniy is a collective, united they stand. But each and every of their part is only human ... ..

But one must feel for Alina right now. Still, she is not done in yet, but Nationals and the assigned competitions following that might be crucial for many older skaters still in their prime to rethink their positions.

Khrustalniy has no 2005 born girls right now, Kanysheva is unknown, perhaps they'll recruit Sinitsyna? 2006 is Valiyeva, Usachyova and Khromykh, 2007 the Olympic y.o.b. is Petrosyan born in the first half.
So there is still room and lots of chance for Alina IMO to be in the top team for at least another year, maybe two.

Honestly Sasha is the cutest little thing. She didn't do as good as she could've (though three landed quads and first to land 4F is already AMAZING), but she's still happy and smiley. She won't let "what could've been" destroy her happiness. She could've won this, but she looks overjoyed with her bronze too. That's good sportsmanship.

Everything is possible but it was also not improbable to be third today. Alina needed about 153.5 for the free to beat Sasha for the bronze and that is completely within her power. It's just whether she wants to fight or if it was too much fighting for her already during the last three seasons. Of course the right relax could do well to Alina, but the returns are not easy.
