I'm just not interested in the politics and think if the 3A take the podium that sending anyone else would be an unfair travesty considering their dominance this season and if they earn those Nationals medals they deserve to go.

But If they do, I can't see any reason other than a purely "political" one to deny any of them a place on the team.

Medvedeva
Tuktamisheva

with other Tutberidze girls reserved.

But Shcherbakova and Trusova may go to EC.

So if history is any indication I think top 3 at RusNats will more than likely go to EC and from there barring any disasters on to WC. Maybe you have some insight I don’t but that’s generally how it has worked for over a decade.

I agree if we can judge from previous rusnats it's set for the top three but the ominous coaches council decision can still be made.
I still think it's really intrasparent though, since coaches council always only seems to apply when rusfed wants it to be applied. And correct me if I'm wrong but,,,does the coaches council follow any criteria? I don't think so because the most logical one didn't get applied last season; body of work.

My advice to rusfed is just keep it simple and send top three to Euros, if one falters send the next girl in line

Last season was an exception as was Olympic season because Zhenya was injured but had a by to the team, being World Champion.
Liza had no such luxury last season and she wasn't even on the team the year before.

This season it will (hopefully we have no injury or illness withdrawals now) be more simple.

They had no problem assigning Sasha, Aliona and Anna to junior worlds after going 1-2-3 at junior nationals last season. Why would this year be any different for senior worlds?

I believe top three last season at RusNats we’re not even senior eligible? That too was funny (haha)!

I think Zhenya has a shot of bumping someone if she posts a reasonable score over Liza but Liza needs to win IMO and go put on a show at Euros to make it. I mean...she needs to be perfect to match one of Sasha or Anna’s more disappointing scores. Seems like a huge gamble on someone who didn’t break 210 on GP this season.

If they sweep the podium here there is no logic at all to send anyone else.
Sending Liza or Zhenya because they're not Eteri skaters would be blatantly political and illogical...it would be nothing like the situation with last year's Worlds selection.

Don’t get me wrong here. I’ve always been a big supporter of Liza and Zhenya but IMO sending both to WC or even EC seems a bit risky. At most I think we’ll see only one of them at WC and I’d bet on Zhenya because she’s already training in Canada and will probably get a bit of a hometown boost from crowd and maybe even judges.

Still...until we see what they put on the ice we really can’t speculate with much certainty. RusNats is like a nuclear event! Best Christmas Gift I get all year and oh...all those amazing Christmas Ornament close ups during tv coverage. I’m pumped!!

You're better than that! You know darn well all three are going if they are one two three in the Nationals. And they should go anyway because they have had unprecedented brilliant seasons for three debut and seniors from the same country. Even if Liza or Zhenya sneak onto the podium they don't deserve to go to euros ahead of 1 of 3A. Besides let's be honest Russia does not win enough in sports anymore in Olympics and World Championships and they certainly don't win like they used to in figure skating Olympics and World Championships and the only thing holding up the Russians in figure skating are their ladies. You have to send your best three if they are healthy to euros and worlds it's a simple as that and we know who the best three are.

Each and everyone of the top 5 would deserve a spot. Any other country would be lucky to have just one of them. And no we do not know. Mabye the first 2 spots yes but the 3? That's he one that is decided by the council and not by where they stood at rusnats. We do not know hos those that make this decision will decide. Could very well be that most do not want only eteri coached students. Mabye they will send all 3 if they are all on the podium. But who knows. We certainly do not know. I mean I agree but then why even do nationals? Rusfed always says how Nationals weighs the most so by that logic top three should go to euros and worlds.
I agree that 3A are the best russians atm on senior level and highly likely they'll make top three, in the unlikely scenario that that's not gonna happen, it's coaches council. And I have to say I don't like rusfeds selection process because we all know, Rusfed knows who they want for euros and worlds and they'll send that team anyways regardless of nationals. They'll just do it like last season where they 'revealed' some 'actual rules about how the spots are chosen' to fit what they wanted. So honestly, why do nationals if they're gonna send who they want anyways?

But you’re the one who declared loudly “there is no way that 3a will go to WC”. I’m sorry but it is possible and not even that far fetched that it could wind up being that way. These girls are capable of skating clean and posting huge scores!

There is no way all three of 3A will be on the team for worlds. It likely that one will be. Independently of what they will do at RusNuts. The team is one of 3A, Medvedeva and most likely Liza or another of 3A. Things got easier now for the selection.

Worlds team only 1 of 3A? Nyet to that. ISU has the attitude of everybody gets to come not just the best but Russia cannot afford to do that. They need to win more than ever as a country and these young girls will give Pride to a beleaguered Sports industry in Russia tainted again by being banned from the Olympics as the Russian Federation.

What in the world are you talking about zounger? No one else in Russia can compete with 3A. Liza and Zhenya shockingly blew their grand prix events and a spot in the Grand Prix final to Bradie and that needs to be held against them the entire season. They don't deserve any benefit of doubt this season. Russia needs to sweep ladies world's podium and that's doable with 3A. If one of the three a cannot make it to Europeans or world's due to injury then you slip somebody else in there but that's the only way that happens.

Who would challenge 3a at Euros? Even with junky skates I think they’d sweep pretty easily.
