2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Hello All.

Although a skater's public social media posts may be discussed, and a skater's choreography may be discussed, do not attribute motivations from a skater to a skater's fans unless there is direct evidence that the skater encouraged certain actions such as IG posts directed to fans, or quotes from the skater to the skater's fans. The fact alone of a skater's activity on social media is not evidence of encouragement to fans.

Please remember to abide by Goldenskate guidelines when posting in this thread.

Thank you for understanding!

I think that anyone who thinks it's even vaguely possible that Team Tutberidze chose Bad Guy to attack Evgenia probably doesn't know just how popular Bad Guy is right now.

For context, I'm between Evgenia and Alina in age. Half my friends love Billie Eilish, the other half might not be big fans but they certainly know her music. Bad Guy is an extremely popular song right now. My friends streamed it at recess, it was playing in the mall yesterday, I have it on my phone, essentially everyone our age has heard Bad Guy and most of us like it. It is NOT an obscure song in any way.

I'll add on and say that Bad Guy is now also a song commonly used for dance combos (contemporary, hip hop, jazz funk etc). There's a younger girl at my studio who wants Bad Guy for her solo music next year, and our teacher says she can't because she's already got a group dance planned to that same song. So my point is that Bad Guy is not a surprising choice of performance music in any context. Not for Alina, not for Evgenia. All this drama boils down to two teen girls liking the same popular song that most teen girls like, and somehow people are acting like this is some horrific scandal.

Two skaters can have the same taste in music. Two skaters can perform to the same music. This is not a big deal. This is not a personal attack. This is normal and expected and somehow it has blown up to ridiculous accusations on both ends.

The only person who owns Bad Guy is Billie Eilish herself.

I actually heard this being discussed somewhere, and I think choreo is something that can't be claimed.
Even when there are very unique/one-of-a-kind moves from dancers that are actually being copied, they can't be copyrighted and there are no legal grounds for that.
The reason is, that bodies can only move a certain amount of ways and people can't be claiming that it's their personal way and restrict others of moving the same way.
As for programs, choreographers are always credited, but afaik, coaches also participate in the program's choreography and change things depending on the skater later on.

Yeah..that sounds reasonable. But what's with specific movements in a specific order taken from one program and incorporated in another? Idk, it's still some kind of an intellectual contribution. Anna Shcherbakova's new EX program Samurai is a good example for a such situation. The first minute of the program is the exact 1:1 off-ice choreography of Alexei Zheleznyakov (they do dance classes with him) but the rest was Daniil G's contribution. Still, at the end the fans and basically everybody who watched it were praising only Daniil for the result. I presume that they have Zheleznyakov's approval since they are on the same team but it's still kind of unfair that he didn't get the recognition from the public.

Yes, she hasn't stepped on the senior circuit yet and she's already so successful!! 2x World Junior Champion, many other medals (has she ever medalled off the podium in the last seasons??), mastering quadriple jumps like a boss, getting awards, already being a big-brand ambassador. Wow! Just wow!

National Channel even announced her winning this prize.

I think she‘s never finished off the podium this entire season. And not last season either? At least internationally. She‘s so young and what she has done is truly astounding. I may not be the biggest fan of her skating but her personality is just admirable. She has that guts and drive and determination and I think it will help her on her journey. Now it will be interesting to see what she does on her senior debut. I‘m having high expectations because of what she‘s done so far but I always have to tell myself that she‘s just a young girl and it will be okay even if she falters once in a while.

Yeah you’re not allowed to bash other skaters in your faves FF. You also shouldn’t bring that here honestly. It isn’t really relevant to Alina at all, but yet here everyone is playing the victim on her behalf. This isn’t even about her. This forum might as well be Alina’s FF pt2 but with the added bonus that you get to drag Evgenia’s name through the mud. If Evgenia’s fans came in here and started doing the same to Alina when she has a normal human emotion or reaction (I don’t know like maybe unfollowing Evgenia on socials) you would all lose it, chew us up and report us. This is why most of the Evgenia fans stay in our FF because you have all made this a very unwelcome space, and when there is conversation to be had that can be used to drag her you can bet the same users every time are partaking in what the Twitter stans like to call ‘cancel culture’.

Unfollowing is important? Didn't EM unfollow Liza recently? So what? Maybe because I don't use FB, Insta etc. I don't understand why would someone put any importance to that.

:palmf:
This forum allows you to ignore users, but unfortunately does not allow you to ignore some topics of conversations. Gentlemen, if the thread Med - Zagi-Tutberidze - endless drama is will created, will you go there?

Such thread would be soon longer than this one

I agree, this is a personal matter. But don't forget some people wrote bad words to EM after that.

This music "fight" is not worthy to be discussed here. If Medvedeva's reaction is true, and not a poor joke from her part, ( I refuse to belive she actually meant to post something like that and I don't have time to research this) then it's a childish, selfish and disappointing reaction.

I really really hope that Zagitova skates to Goddess of Fire for her long program. Wouldn’t that be dynamic and different? I think the music could really suit her.

No, they belong to Zhulin as he was the choreographer of the program.
And more, Eteri and Daniil copied ideas for Alena's vampire gala and Sasha's Sia program. Both ideas for the programs were first written by the fans.
It is already a pattern for them to do that... probably they call it inspiration from others:biggrin:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Daniil ask for fan suggestions for programs on his instagram?

Will Alina Implement a triple Axel or quad this offseason or next offseason? I say next offseason is more likly.

And will Alena implement a triple axel next season? It's healthy I think she will.

So far we have only seen the quad flip on the harness, but anything is possible!
I’m very excited about Alena putting a 3A in, but honestly she doesn’t need it! She is such a breathtaking skater!
Thank you for getting this forum back on topic! :agree:

Alena is the total package and Alina learning a quad will be amazing!

No problem. There is so much to look forward to.

How crazy is it to think that a year or two from now Russia could be dealing with between 5-10 ladies skaters with consistent quads. Now that’s a very tough field!

Pages among pages of discussions over a joke she made on her story. Sigh. There was no "shade" or snarkiness or anything pointed at Alina. Chill. She posted very publicly since everyone knows she's a huge fan and made a joke out of it. Nothing more. It was obviously in bad taste, since she disregarded how crazy some fans can be, but it's not that serious.

It is both very exciting and very worrisome because we just don't know how these girls will hold up over a two or three-year of doing quads and triple axels. Hoping for the best.

With so many of the Russian ladies doing quads and triple axels, it’s not only going to come down to who does the most of them or the most difficult of them. It’s going to come down to who has the best spins and footwork and love from the federation. This is why I believe Liza T is out of the game for next season. She lacks in quality of spins, severely. She isn’t #1 in the eye of the federation (remember, they passed her over in favor of Medvedeva). She won’t do transitions.

Feds phased Liza off the team WC due to her lungs disease. She could not participate in RusNats selection. She was named 1st spare from pure courtesy. Not being fully recovered.

But how it looks now some of Rus ladies are more media persons than competitive skaters.
Liza and Eugenia of seasoned Seniors and Sasha from new Seniors. Too much of media attention...

Alina unfollowed a lot of skaters that day, Trusova, Alena Kostornaya and Kanysheva too and many more from her team, so I wouldn't put it as something sinister.

Now I just want to know where the conspiracy theories are that Alina's leaving Sambo???;)

In reality to this whole social media mess of Evgenia liking comments about Alina & team stealing her music and Alina unfollowing Evgenia (and apparently others) - in the past didn't at least 1 of them say that they didn't run their social media pages?

Well Trusova's been doing quads in competition for 2 years now and she seems to be doing fine.
