2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Oh, it was nothing. She tried to make a joke on social media, and alluded to doping from chocolate or something. Not anything, really.

I wish her comments could have been seen as nothing but because of Russias monumental doping scandal post Sochi games it was not nothing even though she was obviously only joking. Some people thought Adelina would lose her Olympic gold medal because of the doping scandal. I remember fearing the worst for many months that she would have her gold taken away because of what others did. Thank God that didn't happen. Doping is nothing to joke about especially in Russia because it's such a wound. I feel badly for the clean athletes they have that have been smeared by the Russian doping scandal. I'm still pissed off that he Yelena Isinbaeva the greatest female russian athlete ever didn't get to go to the last Olympic Games because of what others did.

Why is this creepy and rotten channel re-posting live streams with young (underage!) female skaters acting silly?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSy9dWv_nTw from https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8a-WxL_4f8abHQaxNXHMAg

And then claiming another of those rotten channels steals his uploads?
I dont know why. Do you?

Is that Shabatova again? I thought the Russian Federation would encourage their young figure skaters not to make videos like these anymore. But like you're always asking Edwin where are the parents? It may be different if this video was just seen by preteen and young teenagers. But it may be peddled to video sources where everyone can see it and that is not right or ethical.

Happy birthday to the one and only Yulia Lipnitskaya :luv17:

She does look happy, I follow her everywhere :-)
Recently published this advertisement of her skating school. Am always happy to see her skate.

There is a picture from today in her instagram with loads of flowers. She said she received unexpectedly many congratulations.

I wonder why she locks and unlocks her IG account so often.

Miss her skating in competition so much!

It’s pairs skaters, Polina Kostiukovich and Ksenia Akhanteva. They are both 16 years old

I am back after more than a month of travelling in the U.S.A. just to see that we have an unusually calm off-season, for better or for worse. The question that makes me angry is why they placed the Nationals in Krasnoyarsk? On the other hand, it took me 15 hours to get from San Fransisco to Moscow and here we are talking about just 4 hours and 40 minutes. I guess, I am going anyway. Not sure about the family, though.

Welcome to my country. I hope it wasn't too hot for you. Since you were in San Francisco maybe you got to see wunderkind Alysa Liu practice as a Russian spy guy. ;)

They don't have to have Nationals in St Petersburg or Moscow or Sochi every year. But they don't have to have it in such far away places. Well maybe they figure this will help figure skating grow in Russia even bigger than it already is.

Thank you.

I've never heard of them and I'm not particularly fond of those types of videos. But it is what it is and they wanted to do it and had fun doing it I guess . I hope they have excellent careers. But a lot of people's fears is videos like this could bring them unwanted attention from crazy people. I'm glad Alina does not do videos like that anymore.

I kept walking around saying “June 5th....yo...what am I missing. Something is on June 5th “ and then it hit me. My ride or die homie from day one on GS and the reason I even started posting is having her bday!! Happy Bday to my my all time number one!!! I can’t believe she’s 21. :yahoo:

It's amazing how we all have that someone that brought us here, or at least into the sport ^_^

Yes, and I bet Yulia is that person for a lot of people, just judging by the views on youtube her Olympic program has . Might I ask who brought you into the sport?

It would be an interesting thread, what skater brought you to Golden Skate. Mine was Evgenia. I was going to worlds in Boston, and my husband said that there is probably a blog about it, and I googled and found Golden Skate.

My presence here is thanks to Adelina Sotnikova. I found her gutsy and gritty and very athletic. I also loved her rivalry with Yulia right before the Sochi Olympics

I thought about ignoring this, because comments like these belong in long overdue to be created "my personal problems with Eteri" thread.
But I want to say that people sometimes go to extremes to vilify a certain person, because it's something people tend to do, see things as extremes, people either see someone either as an angel or a devil. I am not going to say she's perfect, but debunking a few myths is worthy.
...

I'm sorry i was not been able to reply to this comment sooner (life, work, university,... kept me away from PC and i forgot about it).

That post comes from a big misunderstanding: you think my view is similar to that video and i personally don't share that "evil Eteri" rhetoric, i believe most of the things she does are due her style of managing her group which leads her to many of those difficult decisions (keeping skaters when you have that large group, what kind of skaters are worth pushing to maximize results internationally,...).

I admire her working ethics, and she pushed the sports forward more than any other coach i've seen at least in the past 20 years. We went from clean consistent 7 triples programs all the time, backloaded programs, insanely difficult transitions, arms variations and now even quads in ladies in a matter of 4-5 years. If it wasn't for her we would have seen some of these improvements maybe only 20 years from now.

Results speak for herself, no matter what every year she has skaters who win everything in juniors and seniors. I have never seen this level of consistency from other top coaches like Brian Orser, Raf, Mie Hamada.

Beyond that all her skaters still keep a good packaging, they all skate with insane speed, there are no gaps in their programs, transitions are always great, and you can see the attention to details even with spins. I don't share the opinion old time figure skating fans often have that skating used to be more beautiful in the past: it wasn't, programs were so empty, and you had to be excited for a 3T with 30 seconds of preparation and no transitions. Skaters now skate much better with far more speed, better spins, there are no gaps in programs which artistically it should be appreciated more.

That said i personally think Mishin's coaching style is far healthier for the athletes (and maybe for the sport too), although certainly not as efficient in terms of results: he teaches a technique that can last, he believes in long lasting skaters, and he is willing to work with less talented skaters and make them relevant or wait for them during the rough periods. We have never seen that from Eteri throughout the years and i'm worried things have gotten worse now that she has more power: in the past they used to work with all kinds of skaters, while today it very much feels like cherry picking: they keep only the best talents and trash the others, and that is something we saw from other russian coaches before her in the past.

You mentioned Tuktamysheva and yes she faced her rough moments during puberty, her body changed, but the coaches were always there, they reworked all the jumps and she has been able to survive through that and now she is still a top athlete in this sport, while pretty much all her old competitors from the junior or early senior days are all retired by now.

My post was more highlighting the pattern of Eteri-Sergei's coaching style which you can see it across all the different interviews, results and from the athletes also, to understand strenghts and weaknesses from that group and make educated guesses on what we should expect going forward. I'm not saying their methods are bad, just not for everyone, and there is still room for improvements.

I don't think she will have any problems. She continued to participate in competitions as normal after that incident. If it was happened when she was 20 years old let's say, by being part of the national team then maybe, but she is young and mistakes happen.

Hmm worth noting after that incident judges start do lowball her PCS hard compared to her competitors.

I disagree, I think Krasnoyarsk is great location for nationals.
While I understand that things in European part of Russia are more convenient for some people, as a siberian myself I cheer for any competition that actually happens somewhere else.
There is Russia outside Moscow and surroundings, and it is great that FS there is being supported.

Zagitova and Shcherbakova disagree.

There are 2 aspects to this. I see your point. And if there is a chance that suddenly after the Nationals held in Krasnoyarsk many Krasnoyarsk kids will appear on the rink then you may be right. Because this is the only manifestation of "FS is being supported". It is not about ambitions of local officials or whoever with Siberian roots who will feel proud of their city. On the other hand, it is hard to argue with the fact that most Russian FS fans live in the European part of Russia (I even not speak about foreigners now) and for many of them even flying to Krasnoyarsk may be prohibitevely expensive. I am in Perm now. The return ticket Moscow-Perm cost me 12 thousand rubles. I just checked S7 site to find out that flying to Krasnoyarsk would be twice as expensive. And many people even do not live in Moscow so that it will be even harder for them.

We shall see. Getting good seats in Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, and Saransk - the places of previous Nationals was not a piece of cake. I wonder what venue with how many seats will be used in Krasnoyarsk and how difficult will it be to buy tickets. As I said I plan to go anyway.
