2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

well, since it's over...

Right now Anna must be missing her junior days... :laugh2:
Seriously, I know it's Lombardia, but the scores are surprising :slink:

I was surprised by the tech score. There must have been an under rotation on the 3lz3lo and perhaps an edge call. (she does flutz, sometimes). I was not, however, surprised by the PCS marks. She had zero connection to the music today and look awkward and slow during the step sequence. I am sure the performance will improve as the season goes on.

Lombardia Trophy is Mishin's territory. He has his official and unofficial deals and contacts in Italy for a very long time, provides preseason and postseason camps there every year, not to mention coaching Kostner in the past.
He's not taking his best student there to lose the season debut.

Eteri power is rising, but she overplayed her hand there (unless she wanted to toughen Anna up).

I wonder how she will cope with this in the free. Will the lowish score spur her to a great skate and demotivate her to a flop.

Everybody was scored harshly somewhat though. And she has no 3A, so she could expect, she will not lead after short. Is there a difference if she was not leading with overbloated score, with girls ahead having even more overbloated score?

I mean, maybe it is better to go to first challenger that is harsh in scoring. Last year Nepela was the overscored cup and many of the skaters who were there then did not get such good scores later in the season, even if they polished their programs.

Of everyone i watched today (both seniors and juniors) , Ksenia has the most convincing program for me. Though you don't get a lot out of her in terms of emotion. Congrats on both her and Kamila. It's the highlight of the day for me so far, and with Zhenya to follow today, Ksenia's skates and Kamila's quads tomorrow, it'll make for a wonderful weekend.

I love that girls basic skating skills and her program is lovely! She is now officially my favorite Russian junior.

Yes Anna was scored like that because of Mishin..... You keep saying ridiculous things.

I mean Kamila and Kseina just scored 73+ in junior. I would imagine Anna is confused.

For sure. I couldn't believe it either. It both makes sense to me and doesn't make sense at all.

Could this be an indicator that the judges aren't willing to immediately increase the scores of the new seniors this year?

Now that the ladies short is over... did Anna have a mistake or something? Not only is her tech score low, but she has lower PCS than Tuktamysheva? (who is nice and has lovely jumps but isn't a performance-focused skater, and that's okay, but Anna should've beat her in PCS).

No idea...
Looking at AIC, I was thinking, "mmkay, new rules about lesser punishments, scores are being inflated", but I thought they would be inflated everywhere.
Here I was taken aback by the scores.

I think you should not compare scores at two competitions. It's like comparing grades on two schools of a different level.

Junior scores have been rising crazily this year, not sure what is going on there. And yesterday's ACI and today's Lombardia were somewhat harsher (though, I prefer that. Save that rain of PCS for something that will deserve it, otherwise the 10s will be meaningless).

Agree 100%

I don't understand how come Anna's TES score is almost the same as Andrews' TES score? I don't even talk about PCS.

But the system is designed so that the points are still compared - the best determines participation in the grand prix. Therefore, when there is such a big difference in different competitions - this is not good.

Protocols are online. Anna got a < on her Loop. Her Flip also got only 0.85 in GOE. StSq Level 3.

Judges have low GOE in general for many skaters. Thought with some scores that many skaters got UR calls, but no, barely any UR calls but sometimes low GOE on some elements for skaters. Seems like Lombardia is just stingy with GOE and PCs, but tech panel barely calls things.

Remember, Anna's JUNIOR debut was six points higher than this, and she skated clean both times with the same layout. It's not a matter of "not willing to inflate new seniors", they DEflated her by six full points and that's just past unreasonable.

I'm in full-blown shock by the scores. Absurd... :disapp:

Under-rotation on the combo and she lost a level on her step sequence. Starr had lower base value but did not receive any UR calls and all of her elements were level 4.

Is there a protocol out? The scoring with this event in general was very strange. In addition to Anna, Yelim Kim seemed underscored as well....
